Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Uncle, Has Anyone Told You You’re Very Handsome Tonight?
"It’s okay, I have plenty of dresses. Just pick a new one."
Nina Scott opened her closet and let Ivy Sherwood take her pick.
"Nina, pick out something plain for me. I’m going to wash my face first." After saying that, Ivy Sherwood went into the bathroom.
Ivy Sherwood quickly washed all the makeup off her face. "Nina, let me use some of your makeup."
"Ivy, what are you doing?"
As Ivy Sherwood applied her makeup, she explained, "If anyone asks later, just tell them I’ve already left. I’ll go downstairs as Ivy Sherwood so no one will bother me."
When she was very young, her mother had told her that being beautiful wasn’t a flaw, but the world was a complicated place, and it could bring a lot of trouble. Her mother just wanted her to be an ordinary person and live a simple life.
Ivy Sherwood quickly finished her makeup. In the mirror, her fair skin gradually turned sallow and dull. Her unparalleled beauty had been transformed into a plain appearance.
Seeing this, Nina Scott sighed. "Sigh, I really don’t get you. If I were as beautiful as you, I’d show this face off every single day."
Ivy Sherwood changed into the dress Nina Scott had picked for her. This time, it was a long gown that covered her fair, slender legs, but it added a different kind of charm. No matter what she wore, Ivy Sherwood looked good.
"Let’s go down. Otherwise, if Yara Scott doesn’t see you, she’ll start causing trouble for you again."
"Okay!"
Ivy Sherwood and Nina Scott soon appeared at the banquet downstairs. Over on the other side, Silas Blackwood had been searching for that beautiful figure for ages and was getting frantic.
He went to find Nina Scott, only to see her standing with Ivy Sherwood.
’This ugly woman, she’s like a ghost that won’t go away. She even chased me all the way here!’
"Nina Scott, where’s that friend of yours? I don’t see her anymore." Silas Blackwood completely ignored Ivy Sherwood, asking Nina anxiously.
"Silas Blackwood, this is your fiancée. Shouldn’t you be concerned about your fiancée first?" Nina Scott interjected.
Silas Blackwood glanced at Ivy Sherwood with a look of disgust. "Just tell me, where did she go?"
"Shouldn’t you be asking that lovely companion of yours?"
"Anna Nash? What happened?" He had only seen Anna Nash looking disheveled when she returned, which was a complete embarrassment, so he’d had someone send her home.
"She went and made trouble for her, even threw red wine all over her. So my friend left."
"Left? What’s her name? Where does she live?" Silas Blackwood pressed on, clearly not giving up.
"What does that have to do with you? Silas Blackwood, you have a fiancée, you’re keeping a mistress on the side, and now you’re asking about another woman." Nina Scott felt it was so unfair to Ivy Sherwood.
"What mistress? Nina Scott, don’t be so crude!" Silas Blackwood’s face was flushed with anger.
"Is what she said not the truth?" Ivy Sherwood spoke faintly, but her eyes were piercing.
"Or did she hit a nerve, which is why you’re so quick to jump to your feet?"
"Ivy Sherwood! What right do you have to speak, you ugly woman!"
Ivy Sherwood sneered. ’This Silas Blackwood is truly ridiculous.’
"What are you laughing at? What right do you have to laugh at me!" Silas Blackwood was already in a bad mood, and now, seeing Ivy Sherwood’s smile, he assumed she was laughing at him.
"What’s wrong with laughing at you? Do you know you’re ridiculous, too?"
"You!" Seething with uncontrollable rage, Silas Blackwood raised his hand, about to slap Ivy Sherwood.
But the next second, his wrist was gripped tightly.
"Mr. Blackwood, this is a Scott Family banquet. I must ask you not to cause a scene." Seth Scott’s voice came from behind him.
After tonight, Seth Scott was effectively the Head of the Scott Family. Silas Blackwood naturally had to give him face. He resentfully pulled his hand back and left.
"Thank you, Seth Scott."
"Don’t mention it. I was thinking you weren’t going to make it today." A hint of a smile appeared in Seth Scott’s eyes.
"How could I not? I would definitely come on such a big day. Congratulations, Head of the Scott Family."
"There’s nothing to congratulate. It’s all just responsibility. By the way, have you eaten? Why don’t I take you to get something?" Seth Scott asked.
Ivy Sherwood was about to refuse when she felt an intense, icy gaze on her.
She followed the gaze and saw Quentin Blackwood standing there, holding a wine glass and watching her coldly.
Ivy Sherwood suddenly let out a small laugh. She didn’t notice that when Seth Scott saw her smile, his expression softened.
"No, it’s fine. You should get back to your duties. So many people are waiting for you. I’ll just wander around on my own."
"Alright. Well, if you need anything, just come and get me."
"Ivy, have you noticed? My brother is nicer to you than he is to his own sister," Nina Scott whispered, leaning in.
"You’re overthinking it. Your brother is just being polite to me because I’m a guest. Okay, Nina, I see someone I know. I’m going to go say hello."
"Go on, go on!" Nina Scott had things to attend to as well.
Ivy Sherwood looked at the man in the distance, picked up two glasses of wine, and walked toward him.
"Uncle, aren’t you bored all by yourself? Care for a drink?" Ivy Sherwood offered him the glass.
Ivy Sherwood didn’t see that her action had been noticed by others.
"Look, look! That woman is so ugly, and she actually dares to offer a drink to Third Master Blackwood."
"Isn’t she just asking for humiliation? Third Master Blackwood didn’t even accept a drink from Cheryl Yates. This ugly woman really overestimates herself. Now we’ve got a good show to watch."
Not far away, Cheryl Yates’s friend said, "Cheryl, look! That woman dares to approach Third Master Blackwood."
Cheryl Yates looked over and saw Ivy Sherwood. She sneered, "Third Master Blackwood won’t accept it."
The moment Ivy Sherwood offered the drink, she regretted it. She had just wanted to have a casual drink with Quentin Blackwood, thinking of him as the only other familiar person there besides Nina Scott, but she had forgotten his status.
If Quentin Blackwood didn’t accept, she wouldn’t have been embarrassed. She was just about to pull her hand back when he raised his and took the glass.
At this gesture from Quentin Blackwood, everyone around them gasped.
"What’s the relationship between this woman and Third Master Blackwood? He actually took her drink! He just rejected Cheryl Yates."
Many people looked toward Cheryl Yates, who had become a complete joke.
Cheryl Yates had just said he wouldn’t accept, and then he did. It was a total slap in the face.
She glared viciously at Ivy Sherwood. ’Who the hell is this woman?’
Someone nearby commented, "Isn’t that woman Young Master Blackwood’s fiancée? If so, then Third Master Blackwood is her uncle. They’re family, so accepting her drink is probably just to give her some face."
Hearing this, Cheryl Yates’s expression finally relaxed.
However, Ivy Sherwood had no idea how many eyes were on her. She was only looking at the man before her. ’Sure enough, wherever this man goes, he becomes the center of the world.’
"Uncle, has anyone ever told you that you look very handsome tonight?"
The man drained the wine Ivy Sherwood had handed him in one gulp. His Adam’s apple bobbed, the movement utterly sensual.
His thin lips parted. "Stop with the flattery."
