Chapter 259: Chapter 259: Two Strategists and One Pig Teammate
"Tsk." Quentin Blackwood sneered from the side. "So, is Mr. Scott trying to claim ’first come, first served’? By that logic, my nephew has known her much longer, so wouldn’t that mean you don’t stand a chance at all?"
Seth Scott said, "Ivy and your nephew are finished."
"Are they?" Quentin Blackwood looked at Ivy Sherwood.
Ivy Sherwood felt Quentin Blackwood was just trying to stir up trouble. "I have nothing to do with Silas Blackwood anymore."
Quentin Blackwood bristled. ’What is Ivy trying to say? I was speaking up for her, and she’s just pushing me away.’
’Has she really fallen for this Seth Scott guy?’
"Then who are you involved with?" Quentin Blackwood demanded.
Ivy Sherwood didn’t know why Quentin Blackwood was being so aggressive. ’Isn’t everything over between us? He’s really overstepping his bounds.’
"It has nothing to do with you, that’s for sure!"
"Nothing to do with me? Fine!" Quentin Blackwood shot to his feet, threw a look at Ivy Sherwood and Seth Scott, and then strode away.
’That’s right. Whatever Ivy Sherwood does now has nothing to do with him.’
"Hey, Quentin!" Julian Grant hurried after him. "We haven’t even eaten yet! You’re leaving?"
Julian Grant thought, ’If I were him, I wouldn’t leave.’
’If he leaves, isn’t he just letting his woman spend time alone with another man?’
’And this other man just confessed his feelings, too. What if she gets swept up in the moment and says yes?’
’Isn’t that just pushing your own woman into another man’s arms?’
’How can Quentin Blackwood have such a high IQ and such a low EQ? He can’t even handle his own feelings for someone!’
With Quentin Blackwood and Julian Grant gone, Ivy Sherwood had lost her appetite as well. She stood up. "I’m sorry, Seth, but I think I have to go too. Something’s come up."
"Ivy Sherwood," Seth Scott called out to stop her. "I wasn’t lying just now. I really do like you, and I have for a very long time."
"Before, when you were with Quentin Blackwood... I thought I had no chance. But now, it looks like I might, right?"
"How about it? Will you give me a chance?" Seth Scott’s gaze was always like that; whoever he looked at would feel his incredible gentleness.
Ivy Sherwood said, "Thank you for your feelings, but I don’t like you. You shouldn’t waste your time on me. I already have someone I like."
"I’ve always thought of you as a brother. You’re Nina’s wonderful older brother, and you’re like a brother to me, too. That’s how it was, and that’s how it will be. If you hate hearing this, or if you think I’m just trying to string you along by rejecting you but still wanting you in my life as a brother, then you don’t have to associate with me anymore. You don’t need to feel awkward about it."
When Ivy Sherwood rejected someone, she was always brutally direct, leaving no room for doubt.
She preferred to be decisive in these matters, just as she had been with Quentin Blackwood.
"Ivy..."
Seth Scott watched Ivy’s retreating back, now regretting that he had confessed so soon.
He actually knew she didn’t like him. He knew that the moment he confessed, she would likely pull away.
He’d been too impulsive, acting out in front of Quentin Blackwood. Still, Seth didn’t regret letting Ivy know how he felt.
’Ivy said she already has someone she likes. Is it Quentin Blackwood?’
Seth couldn’t accept losing to Quentin Blackwood just like that. Besides, one look at a guy like Quentin and you could tell he would never treat Ivy right.
’Look at his attitude earlier—he acted like the whole world owed him something. Seth just didn’t like the guy.’
’He had to make Ivy see Quentin’s true colors. He had to stop her from being so foolish and believing everything about him.’
...
"Hey, Quentin, are we really just going to leave? Aren’t we just letting the bad guy get what he wants? That Seth Scott is probably back there laughing his head off."
"And what if—I’m just saying, worst-case scenario—what if our dear Ivy says yes to him? Then doesn’t that mean..."
"Shut up!" A suppressed fire danced in Quentin Blackwood’s murderous gaze, making him look terrifying.
"Whatever happens between them has nothing to do with me!"
’Ivy can be with whoever she wants and do whatever she wants.’
Julian Grant: "..."
’This sure doesn’t look like a ’nothing to do with me’ situation.’
Julian Grant said, "Seth Scott is already being so shameless about it. Why don’t you just be a man, admit you like Ivy too? You have the upper hand, after all."
"Who says I like her!" Quentin Blackwood retorted, refusing to admit it.
’He did not like Ivy Sherwood.’
’Although he had no idea why he got so angry when it came to Ivy, his feelings for her were definitely not the same as Seth Scott’s.’
Julian Grant shook his head. ’In love and doesn’t even know it. Jealous and won’t even admit it.’
"So, what now? Should I take you home?" Julian Grant asked.
Quentin Blackwood said, "Get Graham Sherwood on the phone. We’re going for drinks."
"Got it." Julian Grant quickly texted Graham Sherwood, telling him to get over here ASAP and prepare to drink himself to death for a friend.
Their usual spot was a private club owned by Julian Grant.
Graham Sherwood rushed over, having no idea what was going on. All he saw were several empty bottles already littering the table.
"Damn, Julian, you’re putting them away tonight," Graham said. "You’ve already had this much? Don’t tell me you’re about to pass out right after I got here."
Julian Grant said, "I haven’t had a single drop. There," he gestured, "is the master drinker."
Graham Sherwood was shocked. "You’re kidding. He drank all this?"
"Mhm."
"What happened? Quentin’s always been the most rational one among us, and he’s usually so controlled when he drinks." The way Quentin was downing glass after glass now, it seemed he was trying to drink himself into oblivion.
"Someone’s trying to steal his girl," Julian Grant whispered.
"What?" Graham Sherwood was only getting more confused.
"Sigh, you wouldn’t get it anyway. For tonight, let’s just drink with him until he’s had enough."
Julian Grant raised his glass and clinked it against Quentin’s. "Don’t worry, Quentin, I have another trick up my sleeve. But first, let’s drink."
After they had been drinking for a while, Julian Grant finally asked, "Weren’t you and Ivy getting along so well before? How did things suddenly... end up like this?"
Graham was also starting to get the picture. ’Ah, so this is about my sister.’
Graham also chimed in, "Did you do something to upset her?"
"No," Quentin Blackwood answered icily.
"Then what exactly did you argue about? Tell me, I’ll help you break it down." Julian Grant was a self-proclaimed expert in these matters.
Quentin Blackwood’s lips tightened, clearly having no intention of talking.
Julian Grant added, "Come on, don’t worry. You’ve got two master strategists right here. There’s no way we can’t carry a useless teammate like you."
A chilling glare from Quentin Blackwood made Julian Grant quickly backtrack. "What I mean is, we’ll definitely help you win her back."
Only then did Quentin Blackwood speak. "I don’t know."
Graham Sherwood asked, "Didn’t you just take Ivy to that banquet a couple of days ago? Weren’t things fine back then?"
At the mention of the banquet, Quentin Blackwood’s eyes darkened.
"You’re the expert on women, right?" Quentin Blackwood looked at Julian Grant. He had already drunk a lot and was no longer thinking clearly.
If he were his usual, rational self, he never would have drunk this much.
Julian Grant nodded. "When it comes to understanding women, if I claim to be second best, neither of you two could dare claim to be first."
Quentin Blackwood downed another glass before speaking. "At the banquet, there was a small auction. I bought two pieces from the collection to give to her."
Quentin Blackwood briefly explained what had happened. When he finished, Julian Grant slapped his thigh.
"Okay, now I see where the problem is."
