Chapter 258: Chapter 258: I Do Like Ivy Sherwood
"You guys really have good taste. This place is great, and it’s so popular. Look, it’s completely full now," Julian Grant said, trying to smooth things over.
Quentin Blackwood, standing behind him, spoke up. "Coming to a place like this when you know it’s crowded? That’s not good taste, that’s just being blind."
Julian Grant was speechless.
’They already have a table, man. You’re the one who’s blind to the fact there are no seats now. Why are you insulting yourself?’
Julian felt that a useless teammate was impossible to carry. He was trying to help Quentin, but Quentin just kept undermining him.
"If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. Our Ivy here obviously has excellent taste, right?" Without a moment’s hesitation, Julian sat down across from Ivy Sherwood.
It was a table for four. Ivy and Seth Scott were originally sitting face-to-face. Now, with Julian sitting right next to Seth, it meant that if Quentin wanted to sit, he would have to take the seat next to Ivy.
Julian was shameless, so he didn’t care. "Ivy, I was supposed to be treating Quentin to dinner, but I got busy and forgot to make a reservation. What are you guys talking about? Is anyone else coming? Do you mind if we join you?"
"We’re talking about work," Ivy said. "Other employees were supposed to come, but they all had last-minute things come up."
Julian quickly shot Quentin a meaningful look. ’See? Ivy is explaining things to you.’
Ivy was confused.
’When did I ever explain anything to Quentin?!’
"Well, that’s just perfect then! The more, the merrier. Let’s all eat together. And since we’re here, why don’t we all discuss our collaboration? We might even find a way to work together, right?"
Julian made himself right at home, saying everything that needed to be said and then some.
Seth, sitting beside him, was silent.
’I finally managed to get this opportunity to have dinner alone with Ivy, and these two ruined it with their little act!’
Ivy was usually too busy, so asking her out was nearly impossible. Besides, she had only agreed to come because he’d told her other people would be there.
’She definitely won’t fall for a trick like this again.’
Seth glared at Quentin, his eyes filled with hostility.
However, Quentin acted as if he hadn’t noticed. He had been standing, but after seeing Seth’s glare, he pulled out the chair next to Ivy and sat down.
It was just someone sitting down, but Ivy felt an immense, oppressive pressure.
She scooted her chair to the side, putting some distance between herself and Quentin.
Back when she and Quentin still had that little bit of a relationship, they would go days without seeing or even contacting each other.
But now that it was supposedly over, they seemed to run into each other every single day. It was strange.
Quentin noticed Ivy’s small movement. His brow furrowed so deeply he could have crushed a mosquito.
’What does she think she’s doing? Now that she has Seth Scott, she’s starting to keep her distance from me?’
"What have you ordered? Let’s get some more food." Julian quickly called a waiter over and asked for a menu.
Julian scanned it, then pointed at the menu. "This one, this one, and this one."
He flipped a page and pointed at a few more. "This one, and this one."
Ivy was surprised. The dishes Julian was pointing at were the cheapest ones in the restaurant. That wasn’t his style at all.
But before she could ask, she heard Julian say, "I don’t want these few. I’ll take one of everything else on the menu."
Ivy was astonished. "Mr. Grant, there’s no way the few of us can finish all that, is there?"
By excluding only a few dishes, Julian had basically ordered the entire menu.
Julian said, "Who said this is for us to eat? Pack all of this to go and send it to this address. A lot of my employees are still working overtime. President Blackwood is treating today, so we’ll let him splurge. Then I’ll add a few more dishes for us to eat."
With that, Julian started ordering again.
Ivy was at a loss for words for a moment. ’Is Quentin really not going to beat him up for ripping him off like this?’
Julian didn’t help for free, of course. He had to get something out of Quentin, and this amount of money was nothing to Quentin anyway.
After he was done, he shamelessly looked at Quentin. "President Blackwood doesn’t mind, does he?"
Quentin replied calmly, "Of course."
"That’s great. I knew President Blackwood was generous! Look at our President Blackwood—filthy rich and rolling in dough. Ivy, when you’re looking for a man, you have to keep your eyes wide open. You can’t have a poor one, you can’t have a petty one, and you can’t have an ugly one. You should find someone like me... uh, and someone like Quentin, you know!"
Ivy was speechless.
’Could he be any more obvious? Is he saying Seth is poor, ugly, and petty?’
’Then again, compared to Quentin Blackwood, almost anyone would seem poor and not as good-looking.’
’As for being petty, I think Quentin is pretty damn petty himself!’
Ivy subconsciously glanced at Seth and saw that his expression was normal; he didn’t seem affected.
"Mr. Grant, what are you even talking about? We’re just discussing business," Ivy said, feeling embarrassed.
Julian said, "Exactly. I never said you and Mr. Scott were dating."
Everyone at the table, except for Julian, felt a wave of suffocation.
But Seth just chuckled softly. "I do, in fact, have feelings for Ivy."
Ivy froze. Her heart skipped a beat, and her pupils dilated.
’What is Seth saying?’
’How could Seth possibly like me?!’
’He must be saying this on purpose, right? Is it because he and Quentin don’t get along?’
Even Julian hadn’t expected Seth to admit it so directly. He instinctively glanced at Quentin.
’Isn’t this just twisting the knife in Quentin’s heart?’
"I’ve had feelings for Ivy for many years, but I never had the chance to say it. So thank you, Mr. Grant and President Blackwood, for giving me this opportunity to express myself," Seth said, his voice tinged with a sense of ease.
His personality was quiet and reserved; he wasn’t a man of many words, and he was also timid.
For instance, he had kept his feelings for Ivy hidden in his heart for a long time and had never expressed them.
He thought that by staying away from Ivy, these feelings would gradually fade, but as he got older, he realized that they hadn’t.
Ivy had a unique aura about her, a feeling like a spring breeze. She probably didn’t even remember, but she had once encouraged him when they were children.
It was also out of fear of bothering Ivy that Seth never dared to say anything. Until now, when he had finally voiced his feelings.
Hearing Seth’s words and meeting his intense yet gentle gaze, Ivy didn’t feel her face flush or her heart race in the slightest. She just felt flustered, unsure how to respond.
She never imagined Seth actually liked her; she had assumed he was just joking.
’I’m not even good-looking, and I’ve barely interacted with him. What on earth does he like about me? Maybe I should change it?’
"Seth, you must be joking, right? You..."
"I’m not joking. I just don’t want to miss my chance again."
His gaze locked onto Quentin, as if declaring war.
Seth said, "Besides, I was here first."
He had met Ivy first. They had known each other since they were teenagers. As for Quentin? He had only known Ivy for a few days.
