Chapter 233: Chapter 233: Youngest Uncle Is Indeed Simple and Brutal
Ivy Sherwood returned home, took a shower, and got ready for bed.
She had just lain down on the bed when she saw a message from Quentin Blackwood.
When she opened the picture, Ivy Sherwood burst out laughing. The hospital’s bandaging job was impressive; she was very satisfied with the masterpiece.
Ivy Sherwood casually forwarded the photo to Nina Scott before replying to Quentin Blackwood, "Who is this? How did they get beaten up so badly?"
Seeing Ivy Sherwood’s feigned ignorance, the smile in Quentin Blackwood’s eyes deepened. "Caleb Blackwood."
"Caleb Blackwood got beaten up? Did his karma really come so fast?"
’As long as I don’t admit it, no one will know it was me!’
Quentin Blackwood: "..."
That was the exact same thing Quentin Blackwood had just said.
"Was it satisfying?" Quentin Blackwood replied.
Ivy Sherwood knew she couldn’t hide it from Quentin Blackwood, and besides, there was no need to keep something like this from him.
"It felt great at the time, but now my hand hurts a bit."
"Don’t do it like that next time."
Ivy Sherwood read Quentin Blackwood’s message. ’Does he think I shouldn’t have beaten up Caleb Blackwood?’
’Well, I can’t undo it now. I already hit him.’ Just as Ivy Sherwood was trying to think of a reply, another message arrived: "Just use a baseball bat next time."
Ivy Sherwood: "!!"
’Silas’s uncle was certainly brutally straightforward.’
"What if I kill him?" ’If she’d really used a baseball bat, Caleb Blackwood wouldn’t be in the hospital right now; he’d be in a coffin.’
"I’ll take care of it."
Ivy Sherwood stared at the five words Quentin Blackwood had sent, her heart pounding in her chest.
’Quentin Blackwood was always like this. It was so easy to get the wrong idea, so easy to fall for him!’
While texting Ivy Sherwood, Quentin Blackwood also messaged Zane Linton, telling him to check the surveillance footage and take care of anything that needed to be dealt with.
Silas Blackwood noticed Quentin Blackwood texting off to the side. Seeing the corner of Quentin’s mouth quirk up, it seemed he was in a very good mood.
’Who is Quentin chatting with?’
’Is it Ivy Sherwood?’
"Uncle, did you do this?" Silas Blackwood asked, his eyes trying to sneak a glance at Quentin Blackwood’s phone.
Quentin Blackwood didn’t even look up. "If you want to know how hard I hit, you’re welcome to find out for yourself next time."
The implication was clear: the injuries were too light to be his handiwork.
Silas Blackwood: "..."
Silas Blackwood looked at Quentin Blackwood with hatred in his eyes, but Quentin didn’t care in the slightest.
So what if Silas hated him? So what if he loathed him? He still couldn’t do a thing to him.
Quentin Blackwood had only come to take a look and left soon after.
For the next few days, Caleb Blackwood would need to recuperate in the hospital. After all, with a face like that, he was in no condition to see anyone.
Silas Blackwood said, "Dad, just leave the company to me. I won’t be like I was before. My head is clear now. I promise I won’t disappoint you."
Silas Blackwood wanted to make his mark, and now was the perfect opportunity.
"Leave it to you? How can I possibly trust you with it?" Caleb Blackwood knew his own son all too well.
Silas Blackwood said, "Dad, can’t you just trust me this one time?"
Mrs. Blackwood also chimed in, "That’s right, dear. Our son is old enough now. Just let him try."
Caleb Blackwood thought for a moment. The company would have to be handed over to Silas Blackwood sooner or later anyway. This was a good chance to temper him.
"Fine. You’ll handle company affairs for the next few days."
...
Even though she had beaten up Caleb Blackwood, he was still holding her mother’s ashes hostage.
There wasn’t much time left from the deadline Caleb Blackwood had given her. The wedding was originally scheduled for the end of the month, which was only about a dozen days away.
Caleb Blackwood wouldn’t hand over her mother’s ashes easily. But until the deadline passed, he wouldn’t do anything to them either.
That meant she still had a chance.
Rather than acting herself, Ivy Sherwood preferred to pull the strings from behind the scenes. In her mind, the Quentin Blackwood way was to find someone else to take the heat.
And the most suitable, and most desperate, person to take the heat was undoubtedly Anna Nash.
Ivy Sherwood didn’t know where Anna Nash was hiding, but she knew Anna must be secretly keeping tabs on the situation.
She didn’t contact Anna Nash. Instead, she made a social media post visible only to her: "I hear the Blackwood family is still planning a wedding. Who is Silas Blackwood marrying? Surely it can’t be that after all this trouble, some people have just been paving the way for someone else to step in?"
Anna Nash had thrown out her SIM card and other things, but it was easy enough to get a new card and keep using her phone.
Soon enough, she saw Ivy Sherwood’s post.
Anna Nash gripped her phone tightly, her eyes fixed on the words on the screen.
’What is Ivy Sherwood getting at? What does she mean, the Blackwood family is still planning a wedding?’
She knew the Blackwoods were looking for her, so she didn’t dare show her face. She could only wait for the perfect opportunity.
Her last attempt—arranging for someone to hit Silas Blackwood with a car—had failed. Only when her plan succeeded could she emerge without being under threat. Now was not the time.
Anna Nash had originally planned to wait before making her next move, but after seeing Ivy Sherwood’s post, she could no longer stay calm.
She quickly contacted Gideon Gordon and asked him to find out if it was true. Was the Blackwood family really still planning a wedding? And if so, who was Silas Blackwood supposed to be marrying?
The broken engagement with Ivy Sherwood had been publicly announced, so it couldn’t be her.
And as for Caleb Blackwood threatening Ivy Sherwood, very few people knew about that. Even if Gideon Gordon investigated, he wouldn’t be able to find anything out.
At this, Anna Nash started to panic.
Ivy Sherwood’s jab about "paving the way for someone else" was a wake-up call. What if, after all her hard work to break up Ivy and Silas Blackwood, some other woman swooped in and married him? All her efforts would have been for nothing.
’No,’ she thought. ’My next move must be clean, decisive, and finish the job in one fell swoop.’
She had come too far. There was no turning back now.
She had sacrificed too much for Silas Blackwood. Only becoming Mrs. Blackwood would make all her scheming and effort worthwhile.
...
When Silas Blackwood started managing the Blackwood Group, he discovered it was nothing like he had imagined.
Caleb Blackwood had always been the one in charge. As General Manager, Silas Blackwood had been casual, coming and going as he pleased.
Because of his status, the other shareholders never gave him a hard time and were always polite enough.
However, ever since the shareholders found out that Silas Blackwood had given ten percent of his shares to an outsider and still hadn’t gotten them back, his status in the company plummeted.
They were even more displeased now that Caleb Blackwood was away from the office, leaving Silas Blackwood in charge.
But Silas Blackwood was determined to make a big splash. With his naturally short temper, he refused to listen to anyone, and in just two days, he had already offended a number of people.
The shareholders disagreed with several projects, but Silas Blackwood thought they had potential and insisted on signing off on them, thinking the others were just short-sighted and lacked vision.
The shareholders were repulsed by Silas Blackwood’s bullheadedness. But when they went to him, he said impatiently, "Don’t you forget what family this company belongs to. You’re just minor shareholders. I am the sole heir. You can stay out of my decisions."
