Chapter 231: Chapter 231: The Only Way to Deal With Such People Is an Eye for an Eye

Ivy Sherwood had been preoccupied with her mother’s ashes. That afternoon, she had gone to see Timothy Sherwood, subtly trying to find out if there were any secrets about her, or about her mother. But from the way he acted, Timothy Sherwood seemed to know nothing.

She also told him that Caleb Blackwood had taken her mother’s ashes, but Timothy Sherwood was completely indifferent, even saying that if they were taken, then they were taken. He showed absolutely no concern for her mother.

Having long seen Timothy Sherwood for who he was, Ivy Sherwood didn’t get too angry; she was already thoroughly disappointed in him.

Ivy Sherwood was determined to retrieve her mother’s ashes; the only problem was how.

Caleb Blackwood was so shameless. She was tempted to be just as shameless and dig up the Blackwood family’s ancestral graves, an eye for an eye.

But even if Caleb Blackwood was a scoundrel, she couldn’t bring herself to do something so wicked.

Never mind whether she had the ability to get into the Blackwood family cemetery; even if she managed to get the ashes of their ancestors, Caleb Blackwood wouldn’t necessarily care.

Before long, Silas Blackwood sent another message from a different number: "Ivy Sherwood, you’re not the only woman at Quentin Blackwood’s side. Do you really think those other women will let you off the hook if your relationship with him is exposed?"

Ivy Sherwood stared grimly at the sentence, her heart trembling.

’Is Silas Blackwood threatening me?’

It was true that many women were infatuated with Quentin Blackwood, and the most obsessive of them all was Joy Sheridan.

If Joy Sheridan found out about her and Quentin Blackwood, she would definitely come after her.

It wasn’t that Ivy Sherwood was scared or intimidated; she just already had a mountain of problems and didn’t want to invite any more.

Joy Sheridan was notoriously intolerant, and she looked down on everyone equally.

Joy Sheridan and Quentin Blackwood weren’t in a relationship, yet she wanted to possess him, to have him, and to eliminate every woman by his side. Anyone who got even the slightest bit close to him was her enemy.

And it wasn’t as if Ivy Sherwood hadn’t witnessed her schemes before—they were truly vicious.

However, if Joy Sheridan really decided to come after her, Ivy Sherwood wouldn’t be afraid. She had been prepared for this from the moment she sought out Quentin Blackwood.

Just as Ivy Sherwood was mulling over these thoughts, her phone rang.

She thought it might be Silas Blackwood calling to say something more, but instead, she saw the three words on her screen: Death Exemption Token.

It was Quentin Blackwood!

Ivy Sherwood had just been debating whether to call Quentin Blackwood, and to her surprise, he had called her first.

’Did Silas Blackwood really tell him something? Is that why he’s calling?’

She had no idea what had passed between Quentin Blackwood and Silas Blackwood.

After hesitating for two seconds, Ivy Sherwood answered the call. Before the person on the other end could say a word, she apologized.

"I’m sorry."

"Why are you apologizing?"

"Did Silas Blackwood go to you? I’m sorry for causing trouble. He came to see me this afternoon and started making assumptions about us, so I told him that even if I slept with you, it had nothing to do with him. I swear I didn’t mean anything else by it; the words just came out. If I’ve caused you any trouble, feel free to chew me out."

Ivy Sherwood braced herself. She wouldn’t have minded even if Quentin Blackwood had ripped her to shreds.

"So he knows. It’s not a big deal." Quentin Blackwood didn’t seem to mind at all.

A small matter like this was nothing to Quentin Blackwood. With his current status, no one could control which woman he chose to be with.

"You’re really not angry?" Ivy Sherwood asked tentatively.

"Do you want me to be angry?"

"Of course not. I hope you’re happy every day."

A soft chuckle came from the other end of the line, and his magnetic voice deepened. "You flatterer."

Every time she spoke with Quentin Blackwood on the phone, it felt so much like he was leaning in to whisper in her ear that the tips of her own ears flushed red.

"I’m not flattering you, I mean it. I hope we can both live every day happily, without any worries."

Listening to Ivy Sherwood’s voice, he thought about how she probably had a mountain of her own worries, yet she still radiated such positive energy, bravely facing every challenge life threw at her.

"That’s quite profound. Did you run into some kind of trouble?"

Ivy Sherwood didn’t bring up the matter of the ashes to Quentin Blackwood.

Quentin Blackwood had already helped her so much; this was something she still wanted to resolve on her own.

"I probably don’t even need to say it for you to know. Caleb Blackwood’s actions... you’ve known about them all along, haven’t you?"

’Was there anything this man, who was powerful enough to blot out the sky with one hand, didn’t know?’

Quentin Blackwood said, "I’m not sure which specific incident you’re referring to, but it’s true that I know about most of the things Caleb Blackwood has done."

He had people watching Caleb Blackwood, monitoring his every move.

"Mm."

’It must be nice, this world of the powerful.’

’When will I ever be as strong as Quentin Blackwood? Only when you’re strong can you keep others from touching you.’

"Thank you, Quentin Blackwood."

"For what? Aren’t you going to blame me for not telling you sooner?"

Quentin Blackwood had no reason to tell her. And even if he had, her mother’s ashes would still be in Caleb Blackwood’s hands, and she would be just as she was now—at a loss for a good solution.

"You’ve already helped me so much." Ivy Sherwood was clear about who she should love and who she should hate.

"But I do have a question for you. Let me preface this by saying I have no intention of offending you, or your mother."

"Ask away."

"If this had happened to you, what would you do?"

It was simple. Quentin Blackwood answered without even having to think: "An eye for an eye."

That surprised Ivy Sherwood, because she and Quentin Blackwood were on the same page.

In her angriest moments, the thought had certainly crossed her mind.

"But Caleb Blackwood definitely wouldn’t care about something like that. He lost his conscience long ago." ’It wouldn’t serve as a punishment for him at all.’

"Then I’d make Caleb Blackwood get on his knees and eat them."

There was no warmth in Quentin Blackwood’s words. He wasn’t joking; if Caleb Blackwood had crossed him, he really would do it.

Caleb Blackwood might not care about the ashes of his ancestors, but being forced to eat them would be another story entirely.

At the very least, it would be a trauma that would haunt Caleb Blackwood for the rest of his life.

Of course, Caleb Blackwood wouldn’t dare touch Quentin Blackwood’s mother. He was no longer a match for his son and knew that if he provoked Quentin in the slightest, Quentin would come at him with everything he had.

Ivy Sherwood: "..."

"Mr. Blackwood, isn’t that a little... violent?" Ivy Sherwood was stunned by his simple and brutal suggestion.

’It really was an eye for an eye. And as expected of family, they even threatened people the same way. But Quentin Blackwood was obviously more vicious—he’d actually make Caleb Blackwood eat them personally.’

"Violent?"

There were far more vicious things in this world. Many people, in pursuit of profit or their own goals, wouldn’t bat an eye at such things.

Quentin Blackwood had seen too much; he had long since lost all hope for the world.

His world had been shades of gray, until Ivy Sherwood appeared. It was as if a crack had opened in the oppressive, dark sky, allowing a single ray of light to break through.

Quentin Blackwood’s gaze drifted past the window to the night outside. "When dealing with people like that, you can only use their own methods against them."
