Chapter 207: Chapter 207: The Shares from Little Uncle Come in Handy
Ivy Sherwood left the Blackwood residence shortly after.
Nina Scott was waiting for her outside and opened the passenger door. "That was fast. What did Caleb Blackwood say?"
"He’s at the office. I didn’t get to see him."
’I thought Caleb Blackwood would be home since it’s the weekend.’
"So, what now?"
Ivy Sherwood said, "To the office!"
No matter what, this had to be settled today.
Nina Scott acted as the chauffeur today, and she quickly drove Ivy Sherwood to the Blackwood Group building.
Even though it was the weekend, quite a few people were still working overtime at the Blackwood Group.
Caleb Blackwood had recently laid off a number of employees in the name of growth. The company had fewer people, but the workload hadn’t decreased. This meant one person was now doing the work of two or even more, getting progressively busier without a raise.
Although the employees were resentful, finding a job in this economy was genuinely difficult. If you quit, someone would take your place in a heartbeat. So, despite their complaints, very few dared to resign.
A keycard was required to enter the building, which Ivy Sherwood didn’t have. She intended to ask the receptionist to contact Caleb Blackwood.
Someone was on duty at the front desk, even on a weekend. Upon hearing that Ivy was looking for the chairman, the receptionist’s expression immediately changed, and she looked at Ivy with disdain.
"Do you have an appointment?" Her tone was unpleasant.
Ivy Sherwood shook her head. "No."
"You can’t go in without one. And you expect to see our chairman? Hah." The receptionist thought Ivy was delusional. Plenty of people wanted to see the chairman.
Ivy said, "Why don’t you call your chairman, or his secretary? Just tell them my name is—"
Before Ivy could finish, the receptionist cut her off. "It doesn’t matter what your name is. No appointment means no entry! Security, throw her out!"
The receptionist immediately called for a nearby guard. He approached with an electric baton in hand, the message clear: if Ivy didn’t cooperate, they were prepared to use force.
"Miss, you should leave now. Otherwise, don’t blame us for what happens next."
Ivy looked at them coldly. She hadn’t intended to cause a scene, but she was absolutely going to see Caleb Blackwood today.
"Ten percent of the shares should make me a major shareholder, shouldn’t it? Can a shareholder not even enter her own company?"
’So the shares from my uncle are coming in handy already.’
Ivy’s words shocked them. "What shareholder?"
"It’s my first time here, so it’s normal that you don’t recognize me. But you work here. Don’t you pay any attention to company affairs? You’re not even aware of a change in shareholders?"
Their eyes widened. They genuinely had no idea.
Seeing their clueless faces, Ivy had a thought. ’Could it be that even Caleb Blackwood doesn’t know about this yet?’
"If you don’t know, then make a call and ask. But if any of you so much as touch me, you can forget about ever working for the Blackwood Group again!" Ivy unleashed her full, commanding presence, immediately intimidating everyone.
Though the woman looked young and had rather average features, she exuded a powerful, oppressive aura that couldn’t be ignored, making their hearts clench.
The receptionist quickly called Caleb Blackwood’s secretary. The call went through, and the secretary asked, "What shareholder? What’s her name?"
The receptionist looked at Ivy, a bit frightened. "Miss, what’s your name?"
"Ivy Sherwood."
When Ivy stated her name, the receptionist was taken aback. ’Isn’t this Young Master Blackwood’s fiancée?’
’The Blackwood Family’s scandals have been all over the internet lately. Just a little while ago, there was that livestream saying Young Master Blackwood’s mistress was pregnant.’
’And now the actual fiancée shows up here. Is she here to make trouble?’
’The chairman did say online that he’d give Ivy some shares if she married into the family, but she hasn’t married him yet. That doesn’t make her a shareholder, does it?’
’I actually got scared for a second, thinking she was a real shareholder. Turns out, she’s nothing!’
After hearing Ivy’s name, the secretary dismissed the talk of a shareholder, assuming the receptionist had misspoken.
"Ah, Miss Sherwood. Let her come up."
The receptionist hung up, her tone as curt as before. "You can go up."
Ivy’s eyes fixed on her. The gaze was placid, yet it made the receptionist flinch and feel a chill run down her spine.
"Have him come down and get me."
The receptionist’s eyes widened. ’How arrogant can she be? Demanding the chairman’s secretary come down to escort her?’
"Secretary Lee is a very busy man. He doesn’t have time to come down and get you."
"Whether he has time is his business. Your job is to convey the message. If you don’t want this job, just say so. I’ll be happy to inform your supervisor of the situation, and perhaps they’ll find you a new position more to your liking."
Seeing that Ivy’s expression was dead serious, the receptionist quickly called Caleb Blackwood’s secretary again.
A short while later, the secretary came downstairs. "Miss Sherwood, this way, please."
Ivy followed the secretary into an elevator.
Blackwood Enterprises was considered the top company in Lustre, and its headquarters was incredibly impressive. Caleb Blackwood’s office was on the top floor, so even the elevator ride took a while.
"Miss Sherwood, was there something urgent that brought you to the office so suddenly? The chairman is in a meeting."
"He’s been in a meeting this whole time?" Ivy asked.
The secretary nodded. "Yes. Even though it’s the weekend, the chairman called the shareholders together for a meeting."
"A shareholders’ meeting? Perfect." A smile touched Ivy’s lips.
’Talk about perfect timing.’
When the elevator doors opened, the secretary led Ivy out. "Miss Sherwood, please wait in the reception room. I’ll come get you after the chairman’s meeting is over."
"Where’s the conference room?" Ivy asked bluntly.
The secretary pointed. "It’s over there."
He had barely finished speaking when he saw Ivy heading in that direction. The secretary quickly moved to block her. "Miss Sherwood, this is a shareholders’ meeting. You can’t just barge in."
"Why can’t I? I’m a shareholder. Why shouldn’t I attend?"
The secretary thought she must be joking. "Miss Sherwood, the chairman may have said he would give you shares when you become a Blackwood daughter-in-law, but you aren’t a shareholder of the Blackwood Group yet. Besides, only major shareholders can attend the general meeting."
The implication was that even if Ivy did have a small number of shares, she still wouldn’t be able to attend the general meeting.
Ivy didn’t break her stride. "Is that so? And how many shares qualify as a major shareholder? Is ten percent enough?"
"Of course that’s enough."
’Ten percent is a huge amount. The chairman is the largest shareholder, and the second-largest is Young Master Blackwood, who himself only holds ten percent. What on earth is this Miss Sherwood thinking?’
"If it’s enough, then it’s enough. Lead the way."
The secretary looked pained. "Miss Sherwood, please stop joking around."
"I don’t have time to joke with you. If you want to know whether I’m a shareholder, go and check."
The floor was very quiet. As Ivy neared the conference room, she could hear voices.
Under the secretary’s astonished gaze, Ivy walked toward the conference room where the voices were coming from.
