Chapter 190: Chapter 190: A Complete Falling Out

"Silas, how could you think of me that way?"

Silas Blackwood scoffed. "Am I wrong?"

"I..." Anna Nash was at a loss for words. It was true, but ’how did Silas Blackwood know?’

Seeing the look on Silas Blackwood’s face, Anna Nash knew he was furious.

"I didn’t do it on purpose. I did all of this for you! I couldn’t bear to see you wronged like this. Silas, it’s all my fault. You can yell at me."

"Hah. For me?" Silas Blackwood looked as if he’d just heard a joke, his eyes filled with a terrifying rage.

"Or did you do it to utterly ruin Ivy Sherwood so you could marry me and become Mrs. Blackwood?"

"It’s not like that! Silas, believe me..." Anna Nash shook her head, crying, but Silas Blackwood was out of patience.

"Get out!" Silas Blackwood pointed directly at her face. "Get out, and don’t ever show your face to me again!"

It was the first time Anna Nash had ever seen Silas Blackwood so furious with her. It was clear that he truly despised her now.

’But why?’

’Anna Nash couldn’t figure out where she’d gone wrong. She didn’t think she was at fault—everything she did had been for Silas Blackwood’s sake.’

Anna Nash didn’t want to leave, but Silas Blackwood gave her a hard shove. "Get out!"

Anna Nash had no choice but to leave. ’She would have to go back and recalculate her plans. She couldn’t possibly let it go this easily.’

In the hospital room, Silas Blackwood sat alone on the bed. ’So, it really was Anna’s doing. But when did she become this kind of person?’

’Last night, Anna had someone take Ivy Sherwood to a hotel room. She even claimed to have seen Ivy enter the room herself.’

’Could it be that Ivy Sherwood had actually discovered Anna’s plot? So she decided to play along, not only avoiding the trap but also setting one of her own by calling my uncle over. Then she took control of the whole show, which led to everything that happened this morning?’

’Was her goal to make Anna’s plot blow up in her own face?’

The more Silas Blackwood thought about it, the more sense it made. ’That would explain everything. It was highly likely.’

...

Ivy Sherwood had Quentin Blackwood drop her off at the gate of her apartment complex. After thanking him, she went upstairs.

She took off the dress she was wearing and hung it in the closet.

’The dress was beautiful, and she loved it. If she ever had the chance to wear it again, she definitely would.’

Then she put on makeup, transforming herself back into the usual Ivy Sherwood.

Even though her secret had been exposed to Quentin Blackwood, Ivy Sherwood felt a sense of relief.

’At least now she wouldn’t have to feel guilty about hiding her true self from him.’

After changing her clothes and redoing her makeup, Ivy Sherwood went downstairs. Downstairs, she found someone waiting for her. They handed her her phone.

Zane Linton had taken her phone when he’d delivered the clothes. Ivy Sherwood had only realized this after she got out of the shower.

’She had to admire Quentin Blackwood’s intelligence and emotional awareness; he was simply on another level compared to most people.’

After Ivy Sherwood got to her office, she had barely started working when her phone rang.

Ivy Sherwood saw it was an unknown number and answered, "Hello?"

"This is Joy Sheridan. Why haven’t you been answering my calls?" Joy Sheridan’s accusatory voice came through the line.

Ivy Sherwood didn’t even know Joy had called her. "Miss Sheridan, what can I do for you?"

"Who was Quentin Blackwood with last night?" Joy Sheridan asked bluntly.

Ivy Sherwood was taken aback for a moment, not expecting Joy Sheridan to be so direct.

"You’d better ask President Blackwood himself, Miss Sheridan. I’m not really sure."

"I know you’re not sure. I called Quentin Blackwood in the middle of the night, and there was another woman in his room. I want you to find out for me who that woman is." Joy Sheridan’s tone was completely commanding.

Ivy Sherwood nearly choked. ’Joy Sheridan actually knew?’

’Of course, she wasn’t about to tell Joy that she was the one who had been in the same room as Quentin Blackwood last night—let alone sleeping in the same bed.’

’She’d like to live a few more decades, thank you very much!’

"What’s wrong? Why aren’t you saying anything?" Joy Sheridan asked when she heard only silence.

Ivy Sherwood quickly found her voice, trying to suppress her racing heart and make herself sound completely normal.

"Oh? There was a woman in President Blackwood’s room last night? I’m just surprised. He doesn’t usually seem like that kind of person."

Joy Sheridan snorted coldly, her voice laced with venom. "When I find out who this woman is, I’ll make her disappear from the face of the earth!"

Ivy Sherwood’s heart sank at her words. She knew Joy Sheridan was the type to follow through on her threats.

However, she wasn’t afraid. ’When a person is powerful enough, no one can hurt them. So, from now on, she would work even harder to become stronger.’

’She wanted to reach a position where, even if Joy Sheridan found out it was her last night, there would be nothing she could do about it.’

"You’re relatively close to Quentin Blackwood. I need you to do some subtle digging for me and find out who that woman was last night. As long as you get me a definitive answer, I’ll make it worth your while. I can give you any amount of money you want."

Ivy Sherwood let out a small laugh, but it was completely devoid of warmth. "I’m sorry, Miss Sheridan, but I can’t help you with that."

"Not enough money? Or you can name another price."

"This has nothing to do with money. It’s not something I’m capable of, nor is it something I’m willing to do. Miss Sheridan, I have other things to attend to. I’m sorry, but I’m hanging up now."

With that, Ivy Sherwood hung up the phone.

She set her phone aside. Her desk was piled high with documents.

’Ivy Sherwood was keenly aware of her own insignificance. Right now, she was someone who couldn’t even protect Iris. How could she possibly contend with someone like Joy Sheridan? She couldn’t even escape the Blackwood Family. That was the gap between them.’

’Power was everything. Just running Iris wasn’t enough. Ivy Sherwood wanted to enter the world of finance. She had to become a capitalist.’

Her company was developing smoothly at the moment, so she found a great many books and started to study.

When it came to learning, she believed it was never too late to start. It was just that Ivy Sherwood had never been exposed to much of this knowledge before, so she needed to look up additional information just to understand the concepts.

She studied like this straight through until the early morning hours. She ended up sleeping in her office, napping for a few hours at her desk. The next morning, she splashed some water on her face to wake up and went right back to reading.

Ivy Sherwood used every spare moment outside of work to learn new things.

This continued until the afternoon, when Silas Blackwood showed up at her company.

"Ivy Sherwood, I need to talk to you." Silas Blackwood looked incredibly pale and haggard, completely drained of color.

Before Silas Blackwood could even step into the Iris office, another car pulled up next to his.

Zane Linton got out of the car, holding a file.

Zane Linton was nearly six feet tall and looked every bit the business elite in his suit. He pushed up the gold-rimmed glasses on his nose and walked over to the two of them.

"Young Master Blackwood, you’re here too. Perfect. This saves me a trip to the hospital to find you."

Zane Linton held out the file. "President Blackwood sent me to deliver this transfer agreement. It’s all been drafted. Is there anything you need to revise or add?"

As Zane Linton finished speaking, Silas Blackwood’s expression grew even more grim as he stared at the file.
