Chapter 178: Chapter 178: You Can’t Escape the Blackwood Family
"You can try."
Ivy Sherwood: "..."
’Try what? Telling Caleb Blackwood? Or trying to have his child?’
Quentin Blackwood’s gaze fell to her stomach. Even though she was sitting, it was perfectly flat.
"You..."
Sensing his eyes on her, Ivy Sherwood had a pretty good idea of what he was about to say.
"I’m not pregnant," she denied. "I was just saying that."
"Rest assured, I won’t get attached to you. I’ve taken the pill every time afterward, so you don’t need to worry about that kind of thing happening."
’She was well aware of her situation, so she was extremely careful. She couldn’t possibly bring a child into this world. She didn’t even know what her own future held; a child with her would only suffer.’
’Besides, Quentin Blackwood certainly wouldn’t want that to happen either. She refused to be an irresponsible mother.’
The moment the words left Ivy Sherwood’s mouth, the atmosphere in the car plunged into an icy silence.
Ivy Sherwood felt a chill run down her spine. Quentin Blackwood’s expression was taut and terrifying.

’She hadn’t said anything wrong, had she?’ Ivy Sherwood wondered, replaying her words in her head.
Just as she was about to say something to break the tension, she heard Quentin Blackwood’s cold voice. "You’re certainly self-aware."
The corners of Ivy Sherwood’s mouth twitched. "Rest assured. I won’t cause you any trouble."
Neither of them spoke again, and the silence grew even more suffocating.
"Iris is very important to me. Considering the times I’ve... pleased you, could you help me protect it? You don’t have to do much. Just let Caleb Blackwood know that Iris is part of DG."
Quentin Blackwood just stared at her. At her core, Ivy Sherwood wasn’t one to bow her head easily. For her to beg someone was incredibly difficult.
It must have taken a great deal for her to say those words.
Ivy Sherwood wasn’t asking him to help her call off the engagement. She just wanted to borrow his influence to protect what mattered most to her.
Seeing her so stubborn, Quentin Blackwood felt a pang in his chest.
He looked away. "I’ve told you before, there’s no need for this pointless struggle. You can’t escape the Blackwood family."
Sometimes, you just can’t fight fate.
"I don’t believe it!" ’I will escape.’
Quentin Blackwood said nothing. If Ivy Sherwood was determined to bang her head against the wall, he wouldn’t stop her. In fact, he was curious to see how she would struggle.
"Go see your mother when you have the time." This was Quentin Blackwood’s final reminder.
It had been a long time since Ivy Sherwood had visited her mother. She nodded. "I will."
’She had planned on visiting her mother before she left. She really missed her. If only her mom were still with her.’
The car moved slowly. In the front seat, Zane Linton had long since mastered the art of hearing what he was supposed to hear and ignoring what he wasn’t.
"Anything else to say?" Quentin Blackwood asked.
Ivy Sherwood shook her head. "Nothing else. Pull over here, I’ll get out here."
Zane Linton glanced at Quentin Blackwood. Without his boss’s order, he wouldn’t dare stop the car.
Quentin Blackwood gave a slight nod, and only then did Zane Linton pull over to the side of the road.
Ivy Sherwood got out of the car and walked off alone. She was so thin she looked as if a gust of wind could blow her away.
The car drove away, but Quentin Blackwood’s eyes remained fixed on the rearview mirror.
"President Blackwood, are we heading back to Norhaven or going to the office?" Zane Linton asked, unsure of the itinerary.

Her shrinking figure gradually disappeared from view.
"Stop the car!"
Zane Linton pulled the car over again. This time, it was Quentin Blackwood who got out.
"You can go," was all Quentin Blackwood said.
Zane Linton asked if he should arrange for another driver, but Quentin Blackwood refused.
Then he watched Quentin Blackwood turn and walk away, clearly heading in the same direction as Miss Sherwood.
Ivy Sherwood walked slowly, scrolling through the news on her phone.
The incident was all over the internet. And while public opinion had turned in her favor, the fact that the engagement was still on cast a shadow over her mood.
Just then, her phone rang. It was Nina Scott. Ivy Sherwood answered.
"Nina."
"Ivy, are you okay?" Nina Scott sounded extremely worried. "I just stopped by your place, but you weren’t there."
She had seen Ivy’s livestream. It was a brilliant move, perfectly exposing that scumbag and his little tramp for who they really are.
But she was still worried that Ivy would be upset by all of it, so she went to look for her.
She was also afraid Ivy might do something drastic. As Ivy’s only friend, she knew she had to be by her side at a time like this.
She had let herself in with the keycode, only to find the apartment empty.
"I’m fine, I’m out right now."
"What are you doing out? Send me your location. I’ll come to you," Nina Scott said, worried.
Ivy said: "There’s no need, Nina. I’m really okay. Something this small isn’t going to take me down. Besides, public opinion is on my side now, right? I just need some space to think. Don’t worry, I won’t do anything stupid."
"Alright, but you have to promise to call me if you need anything!"
"Okay," Ivy Sherwood promised.
She kept walking until she came across a small park. She went in and sat down on a bench.
The park was bustling with people. A little girl ran up near Ivy, turning to wave at someone behind her. "Mommy, hurry up!"
Her mother walked over, her face beaming with happiness. "Slow down, sweetie. Be careful you don’t fall."
Watching the scene, Ivy was thrown back to her own childhood, remembering running ahead while her mother followed close behind.
But she didn’t have a mother anymore.

She wanted to go see her mom.
Before that, she needed to find Timothy Sherwood first.
She called Timothy Sherwood, but no one answered.
Ivy Sherwood only sat in the park for a short while. She didn’t notice the person watching her from a distance.
Ivy Sherwood hailed a cab and gave the address for the Sherwood residence.
Timothy Sherwood wasn’t at the Sherwood residence. The house staff didn’t know where he was, only that he hadn’t been home in days.
Ruby Sterling wasn’t there either, and Thea Sherwood no longer lived there.
The once-bustling Sherwood household was now fractured and falling apart.
The Sherwood Company was now completely under Thea Sherwood’s control. Timothy Sherwood was trying to buy up loose shares, but it wasn’t enough to challenge her, not when she had powerful backers.
That afternoon, Ivy Sherwood returned to her studio. She picked up her phone and, while scrolling online, saw that the Blackwood family had held a press conference. They admitted that Silas Blackwood was at fault, stated he had been punished according to family rules, and even released a photo of him, heavily injured, in the hospital.
From his hospital bed, Silas Blackwood publicly apologized to Ivy Sherwood, guaranteeing that this kind of situation would never happen again.
Furthermore, Caleb Blackwood stated that Ivy Sherwood and Silas Blackwood were childhood sweethearts and that the Blackwood family was extremely pleased with her as a prospective daughter-in-law. He also announced that as soon as she married into the family, she would be given one percent of the Blackwood Group’s shares.
