Chapter 156: Chapter 156: She Must Be Deliberately Trying to Get His Attention
She pushed herself up, using her hands for support, and heard a muffled groan.
Nina Scott scrambled up, her face beet red. "I’m so sorry, so sorry."
She looked up to see the innocent victim she had dragged down with her. He was young and handsome, but his face was dark and sullen.
"You did that on purpose, didn’t you?" Miles Mercer was furious.
"I didn’t..."
Nina Scott was about to explain and then apologize properly, but he had no intention of listening and cut her off.
"What, do you women get a kick out of faking falls? Tripping yourselves right into a man’s arms?" Miles Mercer’s eyes were filled with disgust. He hated this type of woman the most.
He hadn’t been back in the country for long, but he’d already lost count of how many he’d encountered.
And then there were the ones who, when asked to pour a cup of coffee, managed to spill it all over him.
He had to admit, this woman was the boldest one he’d ever met. She actually dared to touch him *there*!
Nina Scott was speechless.
She was at a loss for words and no longer felt like apologizing. ’This guy might be handsome, but isn’t he way too narcissistic?’
"Sir, I think you’ve misunderstood something. I really didn’t do it on purpose. Someone just tripped me."
"Tripped you? Heh!" Miles Mercer sneered. "Then why didn’t you fall somewhere else? Why did you have to fall right in front of me?"
"And your hand... where exactly did it just land?"
Nina Scott was struck dumb. How was she supposed to know she’d be tripped right there? And as for where her hand... she... she hadn’t done it on purpose.
"I didn’t touch anything just now, so you don’t have to worry about it," Nina Scott said.
The moment she said that, Miles Mercer’s face grew even darker. ’What does this woman mean, she didn’t touch anything?’
Her hand had clearly landed right on *that spot*. That place was fragile and sensitive. Besides, he was very confident in himself. He was so well-endowed, so what did she mean she "didn’t touch anything"? Was she implying he was small?
Seeing the look on Miles Mercer’s face, Nina Scott thought, ’What is wrong with this guy?’
"Sir, this is a public place. Are you sure you want to be talking about this so loudly? I really did bump into you by accident. If you don’t believe me, you can check the security footage."
As if he, Miles Mercer, would ever check security footage for something like this.
Their voices must have been too loud, attracting the attention of people talking nearby. A deep voice spoke up, "Miles, what’s going on?"
"Brother! This woman just deliberately threw herself at me."
Nina Scott glanced to the side. ’This calm, composed man is even more handsome!’
She explained, "I did not. I was accidentally tripped by someone and bumped into your brother. I’ve already apologized, but your brother here insisted from the start that I did it on purpose."
Nina Scott glanced back toward the person who had tripped her, but the woman had already turned her face away. Her figure looked a little familiar, though.
"My brother’s personality is just like that. Don’t take it to heart. I don’t believe the young lady did it on purpose," Xavier Mercer said.
"Finally, a reasonable man." Nina Scott gave him a smile before pulling out a business card and shoving it directly into Miles Mercer’s hand.
"This is my card. It has my contact information. If you really developed some... issue... from me falling on you, whatever the treatment costs, I’ll pay."
With that, Nina Scott walked directly back to her seat.
Miles Mercer stared at the business card in disbelief. ’Nina Scott?’
’Fine. I’ll remember this woman!’
"See, Brother? She gets my attention, then gives me a business card with her name and contact info on it. How is that not on purpose?"
Miles Mercer crumpled the card in his palm, balling it up tightly. "She just wants me to contact her. In her dreams!"
Xavier Mercer said flatly, "You’re probably overthinking it. I’ve told you to be less narcissistic. Not every girl thinks the way you do."
"I think she does!" Miles Mercer fumed.
"Brother, we’ve been in Aethelgard for so long and still have no news of our aunt. Are you sure her last known location was really Aethelgard? What if she went to another city and is living under a different name?"
"And our aunt’s daughter... we’ve practically turned Aethelgard upside down and haven’t found anyone who even remotely resembles her."
"We’ll find them." Xavier Mercer’s gaze darkened.
Nina Scott returned to her seat. She was determined to see who had stuck their foot out, and whether it was accidental or intentional.
So, Nina Scott kept looking in that direction. Miles Mercer noticed her gaze and pursed his lips in annoyance.
"Brother, look. That woman is looking at me."
"Which woman?" Xavier Mercer asked.
"The one who staged that fall just now. She keeps looking over here. I told you she has ulterior motives. Women like her are the most calculating."
Miles Mercer continued, "It’s because we’re too outstanding, too handsome. Look how many women have come up to hit on us tonight. That one two seats over, what was her name? Shen something? The one who said she came with her grandfather—she’s just trying to flirt with us."
"None of these people have pure intentions. They’re all after me. See? That woman is still looking at me. Brother, you have to protect me."
Xavier Mercer was speechless.
Nina Scott stared for a long time. The woman who had her back turned finally looked around. When Nina saw her face, she realized—’Isn’t that the damned scheming bitch!’
Nina Scott’s fists clenched. That damned Thea Sherwood! If it weren’t for Thea Sherwood’s foot, she never would have bumped into that narcissist.
’I should’ve just stomped on her foot. Since that scheming bitch loves sticking her leg out so much, I should’ve just broken it for her.’
But what was Thea Sherwood doing here?
The Sherwood Family had some influence in Lustre, but in Aethelgard, they were completely out of their league.
Even with the power of several Sherwood Families combined, it wouldn’t be enough for Thea Sherwood to land a seat at this show.
The man next to Thea Sherwood was talking with her. They seemed to be laughing and chatting. Nina Scott was puzzled. ’Who is that old man?’
Nina Scott had always been one to repay a grudge. There was no way she would let this slide after Thea Sherwood deliberately set her up.
She was just about to go over and confront her when the show began. Nina Scott had no choice but to give up for now and wait for another chance.
Nina Scott had just sat down when she saw the event organizers flocking around a man who was entering.
The man was nearly six-foot-three, with a powerful presence. He discreetly entered from the other side, but he still managed to instantly command everyone’s attention.
The organizers of this show were already quite influential, but in front of that man, they were all fawning smiles.
There weren’t many men with that kind of power in the world.
Nina Scott was surprised. ’What’s President Blackwood doing here too?’
’Hasn’t President Blackwood been in Lustre this whole time? When did he return to Aethelgard?’
’Does Ivy know about this?’
Nina Scott quickly sent a message to Ivy Sherwood: "Ivy, you’ll never guess who I just saw!"
She picked up her phone, secretly snapped a photo, and sent it to Ivy Sherwood.
However, the show had already started. Ivy Sherwood had put her phone in a drawer and was getting ready to go on stage, so she didn’t see Nina Scott’s message.
Not far away, Miles Mercer saw Nina Scott take the picture and scoffed inwardly, his thoughts full of derision.
’That woman is already taking secret pictures of another man. Just moments ago, she was falling all over me. And she claims she wasn’t trying to get my attention!’
