Chapter 148: Chapter 148: You Don’t Dislike Me, So You Like Me?
"I’m done eating!" Joy Sheridan got angry and slammed her chopsticks down.
Grabbing her bag, she started throwing a fit like a spoiled brat and stormed outside.
"Miss Sheridan..." Seth Scott began.
Quentin Blackwood stood up. He gave Ivy Sherwood a profound look. "Pardon me. This one’s on me."
Quentin Blackwood also left the table, chasing after Joy Sheridan.
Joy Sheridan had done it all on purpose. ’If I get angry, Quentin will definitely chase after me.’ So she waited right by the door.
Sure enough, it wasn’t long before she saw Quentin Blackwood walking out.
A smile appeared on Joy Sheridan’s face. ’Just as I thought. Quentin came after me.’
"Quentin, I’m not mad at you," Joy Sheridan said, trying to explain. "It’s just that those people are outrageous. Did you see the looks on the faces of those two Scotts? Especially that Nina Scott, she was just awful."
"People from these small cities just have no manners, no class. Quentin, you really shouldn’t associate with them."
"If you really look down on people from small cities, then don’t ever speak to me again. I’m from Lustre, too."
Quentin Blackwood continued coldly, "Besides, I don’t think they’re the ones with no class. You, on the other hand... with a temper like yours, you’re bound to get yourself into trouble sooner or later."
A panicked look crossed Joy Sheridan’s face. "That’s not what I meant! Of course you’re different from them."
"How am I different?" To Quentin Blackwood, he was no different from anyone else.
Besides, Lustre was actually a beautiful city. Though Quentin Blackwood despised this place, a part of him also loved it.
Before Joy Sheridan had a chance to explain, a car pulled up and stopped in front of Quentin Blackwood. The driver called out, "President Blackwood."
Quentin Blackwood opened the car door, pushed Joy Sheridan inside, and ordered the driver, "Take Miss Sheridan to the airport. Call me if anything comes up."
"Yes, President Blackwood," the driver answered.
"Quentin, I’m not going to the airport! Don’t send me back! We haven’t even eaten yet!" Joy Sheridan yelled from inside the car. But the doors were already locked; she couldn’t open them no matter how hard she tried.
She could only watch helplessly as the car started, carrying her further and further away from Quentin Blackwood.
She had come all this way to Lustre, only to spend less than two hours with Quentin Blackwood.
’Did my words make Quentin angry? That wasn’t what I meant. I just don’t like those people, that’s all.’
After sending Joy Sheridan away, Quentin Blackwood made a call to inform Old Master Sheridan. Then he pulled up a number on his phone and sent a text message.
"Come out."
Ivy Sherwood was still eating when she received the message.
Ivy Sherwood picked up a piece of the food Quentin Blackwood had put on her plate and ate it.
Nina Scott and Seth Scott were still discussing Joy Sheridan. Nina Scott really disliked her; she was so rude and acted all high and mighty. She was far more arrogant than Cheryl Yates could ever be.
Seth Scott, on the other hand, didn’t say much. After all, it had little to do with him.
Her phone vibrated. Ivy Sherwood picked it up and saw a message from Quentin Blackwood. It was just two simple words, telling her to come out.
’Didn’t he go chasing after Joy Sheridan? Why is he telling me to come out?’
Ivy Sherwood pretended she hadn’t seen it, but a second message from Quentin Blackwood arrived. "If I can’t get you to come out, should I have Silas Blackwood do it?"
Ivy Sherwood: "..."
"Nina, something just came up at the office. I have to go take care of it, so I can’t finish dinner with you."
"Huh? Is it that urgent? Why don’t you finish eating first?" said Nina Scott.
"You guys eat."
Seth Scott stood up. "I’ll see you out."
"Thank you, Mr. Scott, but there’s no need. I drove," Ivy Sherwood said as she walked out.
When she walked outside, she saw the familiar Maybach parked nearby.
The window wasn’t rolled up, and Ivy Sherwood immediately spotted the man in the back seat.
"Get in." The man’s voice was not to be denied.
Ivy Sherwood pulled open the back door. "Weren’t you going to chase after Miss Sheridan, Uncle?"
"Why would I chase her?"
"Didn’t she storm off in a huff?" Ivy Sherwood didn’t understand.
Quentin Blackwood said, "So just because she leaves angry, I’m supposed to chase after her? In that case, I’ve been plenty angry myself. How come I’ve never seen you come chasing after me?"
Ivy Sherwood froze for a second. ’That’s not the same thing at all.’
"Are you angry, Uncle?"
"What do you think?"
’How was she supposed to know? It’s not like she was a mind reader.’
’So Quentin hadn’t left to chase after Joy Sheridan. He’d just wanted an excuse to leave and had dragged her out with him.’
"So where’s Miss Sheridan?" Ivy Sherwood asked.
Quentin Blackwood fixed his gaze on her. "You seem very concerned about Joy Sheridan."
It wasn’t like Ivy Sherwood was jealous.
Yet when Ivy Sherwood looked up, her eyes were as clear and beautiful as ever, without the slightest hint of jealousy. "Not at all. I was just asking."
"Where are you taking me, Uncle?" Ivy Sherwood asked, looking out the window.
"To sell you off."
"Oh really? Then you’d better give me half the price," Ivy Sherwood said with a small laugh.
Ivy Sherwood was sitting right next to Quentin Blackwood. Even though the back seat of the SUV was spacious, they were sitting side by side, their legs brushing against each other.
Ivy Sherwood’s mind flashed back to the dinner table, to Quentin Blackwood rubbing his leg against hers.
She was wearing shorts today, her fair legs exposed, while Quentin Blackwood wore a dark suit, his long legs encased in the fabric. Sitting like this, his calves looked exceptionally long.
’Who would have thought that such a stoic, disciplined man would do something like rub his leg against hers under the table!’
"Right, there are three things I need to clarify."
"What are they?"
"At the racetrack, did you overhear what I said to Nina Scott? That’s not what I meant." She just didn’t want Nina to find out about her and Quentin, which would only cause him trouble.
’She herself didn’t mind, but the other party involved might not want to be linked to her.’
"Oh? Then what did you mean?"
A teasing glint appeared in Quentin Blackwood’s eyes. "If you don’t dislike me, does that mean you like me?"
Ivy Sherwood’s lips parted. ’So he really did hear everything.’
"That’s not it, either. My feelings for you, Uncle, are of respect, like for an elder. You’re someone I admire greatly, and there’s absolutely nothing more to it. I don’t think of you in any other way!"
"Are you making a point of explaining this to me?"
"I guess you could say that."
Ivy Sherwood wanted to move past this point quickly, so she continued, "And the second thing is, I came here to have dinner with Nina. I didn’t expect Seth Scott to be here. It’s not like I was meeting him alone, so please don’t get the wrong idea."
"If you don’t like me, why would you care if I get the wrong idea?"
"I just don’t want you to read too much into it, Uncle. There is absolutely nothing going on between Seth Scott and me. We’re completely innocent."
"Completely innocent? And yet he was putting food on your plate?" Quentin Blackwood could tell at a glance that Seth Scott was up to no good.
Ivy Sherwood met his eyes. "You put food on my plate too, Uncle."
’She and Quentin Blackwood had also... never mind. There was nothing innocent about her relationship with him.’
"So in your eyes, us sleeping together also counts as ’completely innocent’? What, have you slept with him, too?"
