Chapter 143: Chapter 143: She Almost Fell for Him

Best not to bring it up. If she did, Quentin Blackwood would just rehash the past, asking who was the one at the club who first grabbed his waist and refused to let go.

Something occurred to Ivy Sherwood, and she looked up. "I have one more question."

"On the racetrack just now... were you the one driving that red car?"

She was sure it wasn’t Silas Blackwood, and the timing of Quentin Blackwood’s appearance was just too coincidental.

If there was anyone here who would save her, the only person Ivy Sherwood could think of was Quentin Blackwood.

"It wasn’t," Quentin Blackwood answered crisply.

"Really?" Ivy Sherwood found that strange.

’If it wasn’t Quentin Blackwood, then who else could it have been?’

She tried to read his expression, but Quentin Blackwood’s face was impassive. He was too good at masking his feelings; she couldn’t tell a thing.

"What, were you hoping so badly that it was me who saved you?"

"That’s not what I meant. If it wasn’t you, then fine." Ivy Sherwood lowered her gaze.

’Quentin Blackwood is still in his suit and leather dress shoes, which definitely aren’t suited for racing. I have no idea what his driving skills are like, but just based on his outfit, he probably couldn’t have driven that fast.’

’Maybe the one who saved me really wasn’t him.’

"From the look on your face, you seem rather disappointed that it wasn’t me who saved you."

"Wait a minute. I only asked if you drove the red car; I never mentioned being saved. How did you know what happened?" Ivy Sherwood caught the slip in his words.

’I haven’t said anything yet, so how would he know about the rescue?’

"I’m not blind. I could see everything perfectly from the stands. That red car was driven quite well, I’ll admit."

Ivy Sherwood: "..."

’Fine, I guess that explanation is plausible.’

"Aren’t you leaving, President Blackwood? Or do you really plan on staying here to watch me change?"

Quentin Blackwood’s gaze swept over her. "And what if I do?"

’I should have known this man was so shameless. Can’t someone call him and get him out of here?’

’And what about that Joy Sheridan? Since she likes him so much, why isn’t she looking for him? He’s been gone for a little while now.’

Just then, a cell phone rang.

Ivy Sherwood froze. It wasn’t her phone. ’Did the heavens really answer my prayers that quickly?’

Her long lashes fluttered, and a look of delight spread across her face.

Quentin Blackwood pulled out his phone, noticing Ivy Sherwood’s expression out of the corner of his eye. ’Why is she so happy that I’m getting a call?’

Quentin Blackwood merely glanced at the caller ID before declining the call.

Ivy Sherwood didn’t see who it was, only that he’d rejected the call. Her smile froze on her face. "Aren’t you going to get that?" she asked.

"Why should I?"

Seeing that he clearly had no intention of leaving, Ivy Sherwood said in frustration, "Quentin Blackwood, if you don’t get out, I’ll scream for help!"

Quentin Blackwood was unbothered. "Go ahead. Scream loudly."

Ivy Sherwood: "..."

Ivy Sherwood decided to open the door herself. If he wouldn’t leave, she would. But before her hand could touch the knob, Quentin Blackwood blocked her.

His hand clamped over the doorknob, giving her no chance to open the door.

"You!"

Ivy’s face flushed with anger. ’What on earth does he want?’

"I recall telling you to stay away from Seth Scott."

’I barely said two words to Seth Scott today. Isn’t that distant enough?’

’But why is Quentin so concerned about Seth Scott? Don’t tell me he thinks Seth has a thing for me?’

’That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. It’s completely impossible. Seth is only nice to me because I’m friends with Nina.’

"If I agree, will you leave?"

"I’ve told you before, you’re in no position to negotiate with me."

"Then why should I agree?" Ivy retorted, her eyes full of defiance.

Quentin Blackwood had just parted his lips to speak when his phone rang again. It was the same number as before—Joy Sheridan’s grandfather.

"If you don’t listen next time, I’ll have Silas Blackwood keep an eye on you."

After saying this, Quentin Blackwood actually opened the door.

No one was outside. Quentin Blackwood answered the call as he walked away. "Hello, President Sheridan."

Outside the changing room, Nina Scott covered her mouth in shock, unable to believe that the person walking out was Quentin Blackwood.

’Where on earth is Ivy? This gossip is too juicy, I can’t hold it in!’

Inside the changing room, Ivy Sherwood breathed a sigh of relief. She had finally sent the great monolith on his way. ’But his last words about having Silas Blackwood watch me... Who was he trying to annoy with that?’

’And what does he mean, "if you don’t listen next time"? When have I ever been disobedient?’

’Wait, why should I have to listen to him at all?’

Ivy Sherwood quickly stripped off the racing suit and changed back into her own clothes.

When her phone rang, she quickly answered. "Ivy! Where on earth have you been? I’ve been calling you! Listen, I discovered a huge secret! I can’t hold it in, I have to tell you right now!"

Ivy Sherwood whispered, "Where are you right now?"

"I’m outside the changing rooms."

Ivy Sherwood was relieved she hadn’t left yet, or Nina Scott might have seen her.

’Wait a minute. When Quentin Blackwood left just now... did Nina see him?’

"I’m over at the stands. Come find me here," Ivy Sherwood said.

"Okay, I’m on my way!"

After hanging up, Ivy Sherwood hurried out of the changing room, went over to the stands, and touched up her makeup.

Looking at herself in her compact mirror, she noticed her lips were a little red and swollen. Ivy covered it up with a bright red lipstick.

Ivy had just finished her makeup when she heard a voice behind her. "Ivy, what are you doing here all by yourself?"

It was Julian Grant.

"Mr. Grant, what a coincidence," Ivy said.

"It is a coincidence. Have you seen Quentin Blackwood?" Julian Grant asked.

Although she had just seen him, now that Julian Grant was asking, Ivy suddenly didn’t know how to admit it.

"Are you looking for him? Why don’t you give him a call?"

"I just tried calling, but the line was busy. It’s strange, I saw him just a little while ago. You two should have gotten out of your cars around the same time. You didn’t see him?"

Ivy paused. "Quentin Blackwood went racing too?"

"Yeah. He even went on the track and saved you. He was in that red sports car." Julian Grant had watched the whole thing unfold.

The moment he arrived and saw Ivy’s car spin out of control, he went straight onto the track.

’He was so obviously worried about her, yet he refused to admit it.’

’First, he said he wasn’t coming, but the moment he saw Ivy take the field, didn’t he come rushing over in a hurry?’

’So it really was Quentin Blackwood!’

Ivy felt a prick in her heart—a tingling sort of pain, yet tinged with a hint of joy.

’It was so obviously him. Why wouldn’t he admit it?’

Every time she thought Quentin Blackwood was just messing with her, she would discover that he was actually a man with a sharp tongue but a soft heart.

The things that came out of his mouth were never pleasant, but he always seemed to be silently helping her behind the scenes.

If it weren’t for him, she wasn’t sure she would have been able to walk away from the racetrack unharmed today.

’No wonder other women were so captivated by him. A man like this... even my own heart is starting to flutter.’
