Chapter 130: Chapter 130: Anna Nash Is Released
"You’re kicking me out?" Silas Blackwood pointed at himself.
’Shouldn’t Quentin Blackwood be the one to leave? I’m her fiancé!’
"If I leave, you want to be alone with my uncle? A man and a woman, all by yourselves? In your dreams!" No matter what, he was not leaving.
Ivy Sherwood couldn’t be bothered with him. Just as she was about to put the water away, she heard Quentin Blackwood speak.
"Ivy, bring the water here."
Ivy glanced at the water in her hand. It was the same bottle Quentin Blackwood had given her last time, so she didn’t mind if he drank it.
Ivy walked over. "Are you thirsty, Uncle?"
Seeing this preferential treatment, Silas Blackwood cursed Ivy Sherwood internally. ’What a suck-up. Already running off to kiss up to my uncle. It’s like she doesn’t even see me!’
Quentin Blackwood took the water but didn’t drink it right away. Instead, he looked over at Silas Blackwood, his eyes seeming to say that Silas was useless.
’I must have seen it wrong. I’m overthinking it. Why would Uncle fight with me over a bottle of water?’
"Uncle, dinner’s ready."
She had no intention of calling Silas Blackwood over, but he shamelessly sidled up anyway, only to see the simple meal on the table: two dishes and a soup.
Silas Blackwood was thoroughly disgusted. "What is this stuff? My dog usually eats better than this."
"Oh? So you think Uncle isn’t even as good as your dog?"
Silas Blackwood quickly backpedaled. "Uncle, that’s not what I meant."
However, Ivy Sherwood had only brought out a set of bowls and chopsticks for herself and Quentin Blackwood. She only served Quentin rice, completely ignoring Silas Blackwood.
Silas Blackwood just stared. "What about me?"
"Didn’t you just say your dog eats better than this, Young Master Blackwood? Why, do you actually have an appetite for my humble cooking?"
Although Silas Blackwood had already eaten dinner, the aroma of the food now made him feel a little hungry again.
The meal may have been simple, but it did smell rather fragrant.
"Can’t you tell? I’m doing you a favor. If anyone else had made this, I wouldn’t eat it even if they begged me."
Ivy Sherwood scoffed, showing no intention of getting chopsticks for Silas Blackwood.
With that, Silas Blackwood went into the kitchen himself, fighting back the urge to gag at the smell of cooking fumes he found so unpleasant. "Ivy Sherwood, where are your bowls and chopsticks?"
Ivy Sherwood ignored him and ladled a bowl of soup for Quentin Blackwood. "Uncle, have some of this."
"Mm," Quentin Blackwood replied, his head bowed as he seemed to be texting someone.
Just as Silas Blackwood finally found the tableware and came out of the kitchen, he received a call from his company.
"What? A problem at this hour?" Silas Blackwood said, annoyed. "Got it. I’m on my way."
"Uncle, something came up, so I have to go. Since you’ve been drinking, I’ll leave my driver downstairs. Whenever you want to go home, just let him know."
Silas Blackwood wasn’t completely stupid; he knew to leave his driver to keep an eye on Quentin Blackwood, afraid his uncle might spend the night.
Watching Silas Blackwood leave, Ivy Sherwood immediately guessed. "That was your doing, wasn’t it?"
Quentin Blackwood didn’t deny it. "Would you have preferred him to stay and eat with you?"
"Of course not. With him here, I’d probably lose my appetite." ’And this delicious meal would have gone to waste.’
"Uncle, next time you see it’s Silas Blackwood at the door, just don’t open it," Ivy Sherwood said.
Quentin Blackwood’s hand paused. ’How many times would I have to come over to run into Silas Blackwood just once?’
’So, was Ivy Sherwood inviting him to come back again?’
Quentin Blackwood lifted his gaze to look at Ivy Sherwood, but she didn’t seem to realize anything was amiss with what she had just said.
She continued speaking as she ate, "This is the first time I’ve thought Anna Nash was actually good for something—taming that menace, Silas Blackwood."
"He was never this annoying when he was spending all his time with Anna Nash. But ever since Caleb Blackwood took her somewhere, I keep running into that irritating guy!"
Back then, with Anna Nash around, whenever she knew Silas Blackwood was coming to find me, Anna would use all sorts of tricks to call him back.
Ivy Sherwood had never missed Anna Nash so much. ’Should I go plead with Caleb Blackwood to let Anna go?’
"Let’s not talk about them. Eat up before it gets cold. I just threw this together, so I’m not sure if it’s to your liking."
Ivy Sherwood’s cooking was actually quite good. The dishes were simple, but they were exceptionally fragrant, whetting the appetite and giving off a warm, homey feeling.
After the meal, Quentin Blackwood didn’t linger at Ivy Sherwood’s place and left soon after.
He didn’t use Silas Blackwood’s driver, however. Instead, he called his own driver to come pick him up.
After leaving, Quentin Blackwood made a phone call. "Leak Anna Nash’s location to Silas Blackwood."
Right after Anna Nash was taken by Caleb Blackwood, Silas Blackwood had sent people to find out her location.
Later on, as Silas Blackwood thought of Anna Nash less and less, he stopped paying much attention to the matter.
Now, the people he had sent earlier had found Anna Nash’s location. They immediately told Silas Blackwood the address: Anna was being held in a small house in the suburbs.
When Silas Blackwood saw the message, for some reason, he didn’t feel as excited or thrilled as he’d expected.
Two days later, Quentin Blackwood’s subordinate reported to him, "We’ve passed the information to Young Master Blackwood, but he doesn’t seem to be taking any action."
Quentin Blackwood’s gaze was fixed ahead, his eyes inscrutable.
He parted his lips. "If he won’t act, then act for him."
...
Anna Nash was being held by Caleb Blackwood in the suburbs. The house wasn’t small, but it was surrounded by bodyguards. Even if she had wings, Anna would have found it impossible to escape.
The signal was jammed there too, so she had no way to contact the outside world.
It wasn’t that she hadn’t tried to get out. She’d tried everything from faking illnesses to hunger strikes, but nothing worked. Caleb Blackwood was a ruthless man; he wouldn’t care even if she starved to death.
All Anna Nash could do was pray that Silas Blackwood would one day stand up to Caleb Blackwood and come find her.
Anna Nash had been locked up for over a month, and there was still no sign of movement in her belly.
’Was that man from last time even any good? We did it several times that night, so how am I still not pregnant?’
’While I’ve been stuck in here, I wonder if that little bitch Ivy Sherwood has taken the opportunity to seduce Silas Blackwood.’
Just as Anna Nash was at her wit’s end, she noticed that the person who brought her meal today wasn’t the usual one.
As the person laid out the dishes for Anna Nash, they whispered, "Miss Nash, Young Master Blackwood sent me. He said you should pretend to be sick, and he has a way to get you out."
Anna Nash was shocked. ’It’s Silas Blackwood!’
Anna Nash nodded excitedly, indicating that she understood.
That afternoon, Anna Nash claimed she was feeling unwell and in terrible pain.
With Quentin Blackwood pulling strings in the background, Caleb Blackwood was hardly a match. Soon, Anna Nash was sent to the hospital.
She was finally out. She immediately called Silas Blackwood.
Silas Blackwood was busy and feeling irritable when he received Anna Nash’s call.
He thought he had misread the caller ID. Only after confirming it was Anna did he pick up. "Hello, Anna."
Anna Nash’s tearful voice came through the phone. "Silas, I feel so awful. Where are you? I miss you so much."
This kind of coy, cloying voice used to work wonders on Silas Blackwood, but now, he found it a little grating.
