Chapter 1914: Chapter 32: Mother of the White Tide’s Revenge (Part 2)
With this mindset, the Chris people initially did not take the matter to heart. They simply followed the Chris Empire’s protocol for dealing with alien life forms, believing that a small task force would easily resolve the issue.
However, by the second day, the team sent out on the mission did not return. Instead, another bad news arrived; the Planet had been completely overrun in just one night, occupied by the white monsters.
The fall of a Life Planet garnered some attention from the Chris Empire, but only just a bit.
As they always said, the massive Chris Empire had countless such planets. Even if a monster occupied one, it was of no consequence. After all, it was just an outer Immigrant Planet, inhabited by refugee settlers of other races. If they die, they die.
The people in the security department even thanked the monsters, for the whole planet being occupied by them made handling it much easier for the Chris Empire. They could just drop a few large-scale biochemical weapons to completely reset the planet’s surface, exterminating the monsters and readjusting the planet’s ecological system. It was somewhat of a political achievement, making the annual report easier to write—indeed, a two-birds-one-stone situation.
If there were any living humans on the planet, handling the issue would become far more complex.
Although they didn’t care about the lives of those peasants, at least outwardly, they had to pretend to value life. Hence, according to the Empire’s laws, certain extreme measures could not be employed; a military force must instead be dispatched for targeted extermination.
Thus, this approach would not only take longer but also incur additional expenses, which for the Manager responsible for this sector, was like an indirect increase in workload.
In light of this, the planet’s complete fall was naturally good news for them.
No matter how much havoc the monsters wreaked, they would never cause trouble off the planet. They were just unintelligent beasts, after all. To date, the Chris Empire had not found any alien beasts capable of leaving a planet.
However, just as the Manager was enjoying food and watching a film, about to press the "planet cleansing" button, an unexpected message reached him.
"In the target Star System, neighboring planets are experiencing occurrences of unknown white monsters. The scale is currently expanding, with over twenty-five planets already fallen!"
"What! Twenty-five planets!?"
The Manager could no longer stay calm.
If it had just been the one planet eliminated initially, he could easily have brushed it off with a report. But now, with more than twenty planets suddenly falling, it was indisputably a major incident.
Even though the Chris Empire had as many altered planets as cows in a herd, and even if the inhabitants were mere alien immigrants, the number and scale were significant enough to draw the Empire’s attention.
It had been years since the Empire faced such a severe incident, and the Manager could already foresee the harsh punishment from above.
"Damn it! Can’t these peasants just stay out of trouble! Why must they bring so much trouble!!"
At that time, the Manager hadn’t realized the seriousness of the situation and was troubled about how to account to the Empire. His emotions were mostly anger and panic, directed not at the monsters, but at the anxiety over the Empire’s punishment of him.
Of course, the Manager was not a fool. Knowing that a large-scale Burst had occurred, he could not continue to be perfunctory as before. He sent a team of elite investigators to at least uncover the truth, so he could have something to report to the Empire.
Yet this elite investigation team, like the earlier ones, never returned. The only difference was that before losing contact, they managed to transmit some information about the monsters, one of the few pieces of intelligence the Chris Empire had about these white creatures.
The message from the elite investigation team revealed that these were white monsters scattered across the entire planet. From the monsters’ distribution and some clothing characteristics, the team was shocked to realize that the white monsters were not unknown alien creatures but mutations of the residents of the planet!
How could the planet’s residents turn into monsters for no reason?
According to the investigation team’s analysis, the Star System might have suffered some kind of cosmic radiation, which transformed human beings into white monsters bent on destruction and slaughter, explaining the rapid fall of over twenty planets.
On hearing this, the Manager couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. Cosmic radiation, while observable and preventable by his side, was not something they could completely guard against.
It was akin to unpredictable weather reports, prone to errors, and with many types of cosmic radiation, even the Chris Empire couldn’t handle every type. It was quite normal.
It seemed this time the radiation’s power and characteristics were slightly greater, which caused the current situation.
The Empire should accept this explanation, as it somewhat constituted a force majeure.
At least, this explanation was more reasonable than claiming some alien monsters emerged from a planet to conquer twenty-five planets in succession.
The Manager immediately ordered an Energy Field to be raised to blockade the affected area, thinking it should block the radiation.
But the result disappointed them, as all involved personnel lost contact entirely, with no means of communication reaching them.
Not believing in superstitions, the Manager sent out several elite squads, but none returned without exception.
He began to panic, truly frightened by the crisis at hand, different from his initial fear of the Empire’s punishment.
Over just three days, disasters arrived one after another. The major area he managed was entirely fallen, whether planets or fleets, with each mission ending in total communication loss.
Occasionally, one or two squads would return with intelligence, reporting the same: encountering white monsters, with all comrades transformed into terrifying creatures.
The Manager knew he was finished, utterly finished.
The radiation had engulfed his jurisdiction in mere days, forcing him to flee to the rear in the dead of night.
Poor Manager, without witnessing the truth, was executed by the summoned Chris Empire accuser for negligence, leading to the death of numerous Empire citizens, dealt the death penalty on the spot.
The Manager was dead, but the problem was unresolved, leaving the Chris Empire elites to grapple with the aftermath.
When it came to war, they feared no one, prepared for bare-blade combat, and had no complaints even in defeat.
But the current situation was eerie; they couldn’t even see their adversaries but continued receiving reports of new regions falling, never encountering real enemies, only former comrades turned into white monsters.
At this point, the Chris Empire high officials finally realized they were under attack by another civilization, likely one surpassing their technological level, as they couldn’t even observe their adversary—a textbook demonstration of technological superiority.
