Chapter 151: Ferocious Battle
Leon responded even before his brain fully processed what was happening. His body moved on instincts, and he slashed straight at the leaping blur.
Bang!
A heavy force knocked into him, sending him flying several meters before he landed in a roll.
"Leon!"
Marie’s panicked voice snapped him out of the daze he had fallen into, and he quickly got up. Thankfully, he hadn’t lost grip of his weapon, else it would have been hard fighting this monster.
’Damnit! Had I known I was going to fight something this strong, I should have worn that armor.’
Unfortunately, it seemed he had grown a bit overconfident in his own abilities.
"Are you okay?" Marie asked in concern as she stood by his side.
Her eyes flashed with surprise, anger, and fear. This was the first time she had seen Leon barely able to react to the enemy.
Of course, she wasn’t present in his fight against the Bone-Armored zombie, so she didn’t know how he fared back then.
Now, however...
’Fucking beast. You dare to touch him?!’
Just as she was about to step forward and vent her anger on the beast, a firm hand landed on her shoulder.
"I’ll handle it."
Marie stiffened and glanced back. She knew she definitely wouldn’t be able to kill that beast, but her anger had clouded her rationality for a moment. After all, this was the man who helped find her daughter and helped her gain the strength she had today.
Seeing his calm black eyes and resolute expression, she slowly nodded and stepped back.
Leon lowered his back slightly and held his weapon with his two hands. The mutated panther was also staring at him vigilantly, surprised that he was fine after taking its attack.
Bam!
The ground sank in as Leon shot straight at the beast, his swing timed properly. The mutated panther was no joke too, so when it saw the enemy attack, it didn’t hesitate and charged forward.
In less than three seconds, the two figures met at the center.
Bang!
Leon grunted as he slid backwards by five meters. Meanwhile, the mutated panther also took five steps backwards, a low growl escaping its throat.
Leon’s expression did not change, but a chilling light flashed in his eyes.
"Come."
Instantly, he dashed at the beast, who seemed to have learned not to meet his charge head-on anymore. Seeing him fly over like a golf ball, the mutated panther stepped back and retreated. At least, it tried to.
To its confusion and surprise, it couldn’t move at all. Glancing down, it saw two clawed paws made of shadows clinging tightly to its front legs.
Before it could dwell on the nature of these weird paws, it roared when the feeling of intense danger overwhelmed it.
Struggling with greater force, it managed to break free of the shadow paws, but by then, Leon was already upon it.
Realizing it could no longer dodge properly, the beast decided to switch. Sometimes, the best defense was to attack.
Slice! Slice!
Its two front legs swiped at him with all its sharp claws displayed.
Leon’s eyes flashed coldly as he realized that if he wanted his attack to land, he would have to take injuries too.
However, that was not necessary.
The instant Leon’s right foot connected with his shadow on the ground, he disappeared.
The mutated panther’s claws sliced through empty air. However, before it could react with surprise and confusion, the wind behind it was compressed.
ROAR!!!
A roar filled with pain and agony echoed through the outer perimeters of the forest. The mutated panther stumbled as it stared at one of its severed hindlegs in shock.
The leg was barely hanging with a strip of meat connecting the two parts of the body. This was by far the greatest wound this beast had received since the beginning of its evolution.
Leon had not escaped unscathed either. His shirt was torn in the torso area, and five small holes could be seen punctured in his skin with blood flowing out slowly.
Wiping the little blood that came from his lips, he stood up from his kneeling position. The enemy was greatly injured, but Leon didn’t dare underestimate the monster.
After all, Tier One beasts were beasts that had started to gain little intelligence. They couldn’t be compared to mindless zombies at all.
Just as Leon was wondering what the mutated panther was going to do, his expression changed.
His eyes snapped to the person who was at the other end of the beast, and his heart tightened.
Keeping an eye on Leon, the beast paid some attention to Marie. The woman stood gallant with her spear and shield, a fierce expression on her beautiful face.
Although it could tell that she was strong, she definitely wasn’t as strong as it. Without hesitation, the beast charged straight at her.
Its body exuded black smoke and it became a blur again.
Not even a split second after it moved, Leon moved too, his voice loud in the forest.
"Marie, brace!"
The woman was obviously surprised when the mutated beast attacked her. However, she wasn’t scared.
"Haaap!"
Taking in a huge breath, she held her shield right before her, ready to tank the beast’s attack.
Everything happened swiftly after that. A crushing weight descended on her shield, and her expression changed to shock.
It felt as if her bones were about to be ground to dust. It was this strong?
She was barely able to withstand the mutated beast’s charge for one or two seconds before she was sent flying.
Although she was now completely exposed, she wasn’t afraid at all. That beast was destined to die.
’Kill it, Leon.’
The beast was preparing to go after her again when the shadow of death loomed over it.
It barely managed to turn its head slightly when something cold and heavy fell on its neck.
BANG!!!
The ground cracked and sank in as the large beast was pushed into the crater, its head separated from its neck roughly.
[You have slain a Level 50 Tier One Evolved Shadow Panther!]
[You cannot level up!]
[Progress has been stored!]
The two humans received the same messages. Though Marie barely contributed in the fight, she still received a tiny bit of the essence rewarded by the Star Stream. Unfortunately, they were both stuck at Level 25 and therefore could not level up.
After confirming that it was dead, Leon stood up and rushed over to Marie. She was his precious subordinate, and he naturally wasn’t pleased to see her get injured.
The auburn-haired woman lay weakly against a large tree, a weak smile on her face. Seeing her shield arm hanging limply, the excitement from battle vanished from Leon’s eyes.
Grabbing her arm gently, Leon pressed a few points on her skin, then frowned.
Her condition wasn’t too bad, but it wasn’t too good either. Several bones in her left arm were cracked, and they weren’t small cracks like fractures either.
