Chapter 141: Preparation for Assault
Taking his attention off the screen before him, Leon turned to Thyra.
"Thank you."
A flash of surprise crossed Thyra’s eyes, but she soon smiled and said, "It’s good that you know what is worth it."
She had no idea that the reason he was thanking her was different from what she thought. Leon also didn’t bother telling her.
Until he discovered if it was something truly important or immensely beneficial to him, then Leon decided to dismiss it for now.
’But I can tell that it’d help me in the long run.’
Shrugging, he continued to make mental simulations while keeping guard in case any evolver wanted to sneak in.
Before he knew it, it was already 6 AM. Standing up from the rug on the floor, he asked, "There were several people watching this place carefully, am I right?"
Turning back to him, Thyra was surprised. Then, she nodded. "How did you know?"
Leon shook his head with a simple smile. "I just guessed, and decided to ask. I know you probably noticed for a while now, but you can’t tell me directly. That’s why I asked instead."
Once again, Thyra was surprised, then she smiled. "You’re cunning. I like that."
"You didn’t get a wink of sleep. Are you sure you’ll be able to fight in that condition?" She asked.
Leon sent the black greatsword back into his storage ring and nodded.
"You don’t need to worry about it. While it’s true that I didn’t sleep, my mind was pretty relaxed too. Besides, as evolvers now, I can definitely go on a few days without sleeping."
Thyra nodded. "Well, I guess you’re right."
Before either of them could say anything else, one of the bedroom doors opened, and Marie stepped out wearing a purple nightgown.
The woman had messy strands of her auburn hair covering her face, but that didn’t diminish her beauty at all.
Staring at her blankly, Leon realized she was oozing a certain charm which he instinctively recognized.
His face paled slightly. ’A Milf?’
He hadn’t been curious enough to search for the true meaning of that abbreviation, but he knew it was targeted at mothers.
While Leon was a man of culture and a fan of many genres, he knew well enough to distinguish between reality and fantasy. Hence, he never really considered a milf to be something real.
Now, though...
’Dammit!’
"Eh? Oh. Good morning, Boss."
Seeing him staring at her with his eyes twitching, Marie brushed a few loose strands of hair aside and smiled at him.
Her words seemed to have brought him out of his daze as he took a deep breath and replied.
"Good morning, Marie. Did you get a good night’s sleep?"
The woman nodded, unintentionally stretching her arms and causing her dress to tighten in obvious places.
’Ah, I know she’s doing this unintentionally, but it almost feels like she’s trying to seduce me.’
Leon shook his head with a wry smile, immediately wiping off any suggestive thought about the woman.
He thought he had gotten resistant to beauty and temptation after living with Thyra for over a month. However, somehow, that resistance was...
"Hahaha! I can tell what you’re thinking. It’s so hilarious!"
Thyra laughed out loud, holding her stomach and pointing at him.
Leon pretended not to show any reaction to her words, but the faint twitch of his lips gave him away.
Refocusing on Marie’s face, he asked, "It’s still early in the morning. Do you need something? If yes, then you should probably change first. Then, we can talk."
Marie froze, and her head robotically lowered to check her outfit. Only now did she realize what she was wearing, and what she wasn’t wearing underneath.
’I—my bra...’
Out of habit, she wasn’t wearing a particular undergarment since she had been sleeping. Hence, under the nightgown, her firm breasts were even more prominent since there was nothing holding them back.
’This... he saw me like this...’
Her brain froze for a few seconds, before she blushed and apologized with a bitter smile.
"I’m sorry for making you feel awkward at such an embarrassing and ugly display of myself. I’ll go change now."
Before she could turn, Leon spoke in a serious tone.
"Embarrassing? Sure. But ugly? No way."
Marie looked at him in surprise, and became even more surprised. Leon had a serious frown on his face, and he looked like a lawyer ready to defend his client who was wrongly accused.
’Is that... an indirect compliment?’
Marie blushed harder, and as much as she wanted to avoid looking like a young girl, she couldn’t help it.
"Oh, um... thank you."
She unconsciously put a strand of hair behind her ear, then returned to the room with quick steps.
"Little Leon, I didn’t think you’d have such a glib tongue," Thyra chuckled.
Finally relaxing, Leon turned to her and rolled his eyes. "Glib tongue? I’m simply stating the obvious. All other things aside, Marie is beautiful. Calling herself ugly like that kind of annoys me."
"Oh? You seem to be very serious about this matter," Thyra spoke, amused.
"Obviously," He nodded with a profound expression. "Beauty is meant to be acknowledged or appreciated. If it’s done otherwise, we men of culture are offended."
Thyra tilted her head, her purple eyes blinking with curiosity. "So if someone calls me ugly, you’ll get annoyed?"
"Annoyed? That won’t cut it," Leon shook his head. "I’ll be pissed. But anyway, no one in their right senses would call you ugly anyway."
Thyra smiled faintly, feeling an unfamiliar warmth in her heart.
’This cheeky brat sure knows how to flirt unintentionally. Where did he get this trait from?’
Meanwhile, unaware of her thoughts, Leon directly went to the kitchen and began to prepare breakfast for the whole group. Minutes later, Marie joined him, wearing proper clothing now.
She was no longer embarrassed about what had happened earlier and was able to chat with Leon confidently.
"So, I was wondering what exactly we came here to do. Are we going to attack them, or you’re waiting for something?"
Leon passed a cup to her as he flipped the pancake in the frying pan with surprising familiarity.
"I was actually considering a few things before. But seeing the state in which this base is in, I realized it would give Gwen a lot of trouble."
Marie nodded, understanding his point. The difference between this Floyd Camp and their own base was vast, and it would be hard trying to change the small things that had now become a custom here.
"Since that’s the case, we’re going to take out the leaders of the base today, and crush their army. Although I’ll avoid killing a lot of people, a few will have to serve as examples."
Marie nodded again, as his words were true. Although it would have been nice if they could get the leadership of the base without fighting, that was merely a fantasy.
No normal human would be willing to give up the authority they had, especially over thousands of lives.
’Oh, well. People will still die anyway. We just have to make them few.’
