Chapter 134: A New Order [75 PS Bonus Chapter (2)]

"What’s an onahole?"

Hearing that question, Leon froze. He didn’t think that Thyra would still be curious about that particular word. He was tempted to lie and call it something else, but knowing Thyra, she’d probably find out sooner or later. After all, no knowledge of this world could truly be hidden from her.

And if she made the discovery by herself, then he could only wait for days or weeks of teasing in the future.

Hence, he put on a mask of indifference as he began to remove his armor.

"Oh, that? It’s not a big deal, just a Japanese term for sex toys."

Thyra’s eyes widened in surprise, and she couldn’t help but look at Leon in a new light.

"Were you serious about what you said, then?"

Scoffing, Leon shook his head. "Of course, not. Even though that woman is quite pretty, I don’t have such twisted desires as forcing myself on my opponents or enemies."

Her eyes narrowed suspiciously, but seeing that he was sincere, she let the matter go.

Leon secretly let out a sigh of relief in his heart, happy that he had avoided a teasing crisis.

"Well, onahole aside, you now know there’s another human camp in this area. What are you going to do about it?" Thyra asked as she sat at the edge of the bed, carefully drawing the hem of her gown so it covered a bit more of her exposed thighs.

Leon remained indifferent, though she could tell that he was considering his options seriously.

"It probably wouldn’t take long before they notice the absence of Emily’s rescue team, and they might send people to look for them. Before that time, I don’t want any interaction with them. For now, I’ll simply focus on strengthening this base, and utilizing the wheel properly."

He paused, glancing outside through the window.

"As for whether we can become allies or enemies, that is yet to be known. But I doubt we can become allies."

Thyra nodded, a serious expression on her face. "It’s good to know that you aren’t naive. Although I’d prefer you take control of that base too, I’ll leave the choice to you."

Leon’s eyes glinted strangely as he listened to her words. Then, he nodded with an unreadable expression.

’I already know what to do anyway.’

.........

Days passed in a flash, and before he knew it, it had been over two weeks since they arrived in Williamsburg. The apartment building which was their base now had over a hundred survivors living in it.

Thankfully, it wasn’t cramped as there were enough rooms for everyone.

Things had been progressing steadily, and the base was starting to thrive. There were now more than thirty evolvers in the base, with the weakest ones being at level 7.

Under Marie’s tutoring and good leadership, the evolvers were able to grow safely until Level 5, before they were left to hunt independently and grow by themselves.

Unfortunately, casualties were unavoidable when Marie no longer acted as the mother hen. Nearly ten people died and a few lost their limbs while fighting, making them incapable of fighting for the rest of their lives—unless there was a way to regrow their limbs.

Although this was saddening, it was inevitable, and Marie was pleased with the gains.

The other evolvers that had survived were all strong and were not cowards regardless of their age. Be it eighteen year-old girls or forty-two year old men, they had all adapted to the harshness of the apocalypse and were definitely no longer rookies.

Unfortunately, although this was undoubtedly a strong boost to the combat power of the base, it had a major downside.

The pure life essences of the soul evolvers were like magnets that attracted the surrounding hostiles.

The base was repeatedly attacked by several strong mutated beasts or small hordes of zombies that wanted to consume everyone behind the thick, reinforced walls of the base.

Gwen was the main strategist of the base, as she was in charge of tactical decisions that needed to be made. The defense of the base was naturally the most important, but there were several others that were of importance as well.

For example, managing the survivors living in the base. Just as anyone would expect, some people were unruly, just like a certain guy had been during their days in the university’s field house.

Some who were evolvers before being brought into the base found it hard to submit to a single person, as they previously enjoyed the privilege of lording over a group of five or six.

Unfortunately, now that they were at Leon’s base, they were automatically his subordinates. Gwen settled this by making the laws strictly known to everyone.

If anyone wanted to live kingly lives and enjoy luxurious meals, they had to work for it. Naturally, the best work was to become an evolver who fought against zombies and mutated beasts.

Although many were unwilling, those who understood the harshness of starvation decided to join.

Another option was to do menial jobs like cleaning the base, dissecting beast corpses, construction, and others. Those who were willing to do these kinds of work would naturally enjoy the greatest luxury present in this world—food. Although not as much as that of evolvers, it was still enough to put satisfied smiles on their faces.

As for those who chose not to do anything and decided to be leeches, they would only receive the lowest privilege and could only eat a bowl of white rice and oil in the morning, then another bowl in the evening.

Naturally, this brought up the dissatisfaction of many. But once Gwen expressed her stance firmly, stating that they could leave if they wanted to, and nobody was forcing them, they all kept their complaints to themselves.

After all, who wanted to leave the safe walls of the base and expose themselves to danger. It was better to let the evolvers protect them while they managed the meager meals they were given.

No point risking their lives, right?

The majority were weak-willed and naturally stopped protesting. As for those who still remained stubborn and were unwilling to leave, Leon only gave a simple order: kill them.

After making an example of five of such individuals, it was easy to crush the will of the remaining ones. From then on, the base continued to operate smoothly, until one particular morning.

Leon had just returned from using the wheel once more, accompanied by a couple that had been rescued by him. He delegated Fel to take them away and assign them a room, while he walked up to Marie upon seeing the troubled expression on her face as she spoke to Gwen.

"Is something the matter?" He asked, tilting his head curiously.

Marie nodded and said, "I’m afraid we might be in a pinch right now."
