Chapter 132: Ambush... unexpected?
ROAR!
The white bear was larger than a normal one, its massive frame dwarfing the two humans.
However, none of them were stunned or afraid of the bear. A cold glint flashed in Selene’s eyes and she raised her hand.
"Ice Spike."
Her voice was low and incredibly cold, barely audible as the wind carried it.
Mana coagulated a few meters away from her hand and in less than a second, a thick rod of ice with a pointed end was created, instantly shooting towards the pouncing bear.
Puchi!
The spike pierced its torso, causing the bear to stumble back and roar in pain. Selene didn’t give it more than two seconds of rest before two more ice spikes stabbed into its chest and head, killing it.
Instantly, the bear broke into white particles of light and disappeared.
Selene frowned when she received no message confirming her kill, and she realized something was wrong.
Unlike her, Leon’s gaze was solely fixed on the third floor of the building, catching the silhouette of a human beyond the windows.
’That was a summoned beast,’ He noted, confirming his speculation with Selene’s frown of unease.
Glancing back at the upper floor of the building, he didn’t have to wait long before the window shattered, taking a portion of the wall with it.
Three figures jumped down from the broken section of the building and immediately launched attacks at the duo.
Selene’s eyes narrowed, seeing two magic circles light up before and behind her. From the two magic circles, a black bear and a large green snake appeared to confront her.
While Selene clashed with the beasts, Leon quickly unsheathed his sword and knocked back several darts that had been thrown at him.
When the dust cleared, he found a woman and a man standing opposite him, dressed in what appeared to be a different kind of combat gear.
The man was carrying two swords while the woman had a shield hanging on her back like a certain superhero.
Leon’s expression was frosty as he gazed at the two who revealed obvious killing intent.
Without even asking for their identities, he dashed at the duo and swung his sword. Interrogation could come later.
Seeing him attack without hesitation, the man was stunned and quickly shouted to his partner.
"Phoenix! Shield!"
The woman immediately pulled her shield and raised it to block his attack.
High in the sky, Thyra shook her head while looking at the woman in pity.
’Unless you’re a peak Tier Two Evolved, you should forget about easily tanking that.’
Bang!
"Ahh?!?"
The instant the sword connected with the shield, a cry of pain erupted from the woman’s mouth as she was sent crashing back into the building, her condition unknown.
Though surprised, her partner was quick to react and dashed at Leon with what he believed was his great advantage—speed.
Unfortunately for him, Leon was even faster. He closed the distance between them, then punched him straight in the gut.
Bam!
The man’s eyes bulged and he choked when the air in his lungs was forcefully expelled.
Unlike his counterpart who was thrown into the building, he was lifted into the air by a few meters, then fell back to the ground in pain.
Leon casually disarmed him, planted a foot on his back, and turned to Selene. She was dragging a half-frozen chubby man by his collar while walking towards him.
"Freeze his legs."
Leon said as he pointed to the man pinned down by him, then rushed into the building to find the other woman.
Not even five seconds later, he unceremoniously dragged her out of the building by pulling her hair.
Although she protested, there was nothing she could do against him. Her shield arm was broken and mangled, with the flesh torn by her own broken bones.
Leon dumped her on the ground along with her mates, then looked at Selene with an indifferent expression.
"I thought you’d hesitate since they were humans," She said sarcastically.
"Not in the slightest," Leon shook his head. "I have a pretty good idea why they came. And regarding that..."
A chilling smile appeared on his face as he looked at the three of them.
Crouching, he let his smile vanish and asked in a frosty voice.
"Who’s the leader? I’ll only be torturing him."
Instantly, they gestured at each other, fear in their eyes. Leon chuckled at the sight, as it was obvious that these humans still feared the concept of torture.
’Even to the point of betraying each other. What a mess.’
Although they gestured at each other, Leon easily identified the leader by using the method ’majority carries the vote’.
Surprisingly, it was the woman who was their leader, and she was gritting her teeth with anger.
Although she had a few abilities that she could use to attack and fight back, she knew that Selene who stood behind her was a great threat.
Leon looked into her eyes and gently shook his head.
"Dissolve those thoughts. I don’t mind killing any one of you guys."
Hearing how he said this casually, the woman felt a chill in her heart. Could a human really be this cruel?
Unfortunately, she didn’t have time to entertain those thoughts.
"First, your name," Leon said, his cold gaze fixed on her.
At first, she wanted to remain stubborn, but remembering the word ’torture’, she complied.
"Emily Hart."
Leon nodded in satisfaction, then continued, "So Emily, who sent you? And how did you know about this place?"
From what he had noticed, this area wasn’t too populated by humans, as most had been turned into zombies or had fled.
For this group to mysteriously appear, there had to be something at play.
Emily’s eyes darkened, but under his chilling gaze, she spoke slowly.
"We’re a rescue team from the Floyd Camp, and we discovered this wheel yesterday evening."
A flash of surprise crossed Leon’s eyes at the mention of the Floyd Camp. However, he was just curious. That place was quite far and had nothing to do with him.
At least, not yet.
"So when you guys realized you couldn’t use it, you decided to camp around and wait for the owner to come."
She nodded reluctantly, confirming his suspicion.
"Is that so..."
His words came out slowly, causing her to tense. Then, with a swift motion, Leon struck at the chubby man’s head.
Bang!
