Chapter 307: Chapter 186: It’s Too Scary Outside

On the video feed, the interior of the SUV was visible. Bai Wan stood alert between the driver’s and passenger’s seats, staring at Shen Ruiping outside.

Hearing Yang Qi’s voice come from the phone, it immediately whipped its head around to look at the screen.

"Bai Wan, this is Officer Shen Ruiping. He’s a good guy, a friend of mine. I need him to drive the car now, so I need you to cooperate. Go on, get in the back and rest."

Yang Qi said quickly over the video call.

"WOOF!"

’Understood.’

Bai Wan yipped in response. The wariness in his eyes vanished instantly as he deftly jumped through the gap between the front seats and onto the back row. He sat up straight and even wagged his tail at the phone screen.

Shen Ruiping, who was watching this unfold through the car window, was both amused and amazed. "Advisor Yang, your dog-training skills are truly out of this world. You can command him so clearly over a video call—it’s even more effective than some of the commands we use for our K-9 units."

"You’re too kind, Captain Shen," Yang Qi said with a smile. "Bai Wan is just picky about who he trusts. I’ll have to leave the car in your hands."

After they hung up, the transport truck continued on its way.

Half an hour later, they drove into the Binjiang Zoo.

The Zoo staff had already cleared the roads, so the transport truck drove directly to the tiger enclosure.

Once the truck came to a complete stop, Yang Qi had the Zoo staff and the Veterinarian, who were waiting outside, move back a safe distance.

He then opened the cargo door and jumped down first before turning to call back into the truck.

"We’re at your new home."

The White Tiger let out a low growl and obediently followed Yang Qi out.

It curiously surveyed its unfamiliar surroundings.

A tall enclosure, a concrete floor, and, in the distance, a crowd of tense-looking people watching from a safe remove.

Yang Qi led it through a dedicated corridor and into a spacious, clean indoor enclosure that had been prepared in advance.

The enclosure was furnished with climbing structures, a pool, and fresh straw bedding.

After entering, the White Tiger paced back and forth, sniffing at its new surroundings. It then shook its head, seemingly disappointed, and let out a low growl in Yang Qi’s direction.

’This isn’t home.’

"This is your new home."

Yang Qi crouched down, stroking the White Tiger’s massive head as he soothed it in a gentle voice. "See? Everything here is brand new and clean. And this space is bigger than where you used to live, isn’t it? Don’t you think it’ll be more comfortable to move around in?"

Zoos often entice one another into animal exchanges by offering better facilities.

Hearing this, the White Tiger took a closer look at the enclosure’s space. It walked over to a climbing structure and rubbed against it, as if comparing it to its memories, before growling in response.

’It is a lot bigger.’

The disappointment in its tone lessened slightly.

Yang Qi breathed a small sigh of relief. It was a good sign that the tiger was starting to accept its new environment.

He patiently soothed the White Tiger for a while longer until its mood stabilized. Only when he saw it begin to leisurely groom itself did he back out of the enclosure.

Minister Wang, who had been waiting outside, immediately hurried over, his face filled with gratitude.

"Advisor Yang, thank you. We would have been in serious trouble today if it weren’t for you."

He then turned to introduce a scholarly-looking, middle-aged man with glasses who was standing beside him.

"This is the director of our Binjiang Zoo, Director Li!"

"Hello, Advisor Yang. I’m Li Jianguo."

Director Li reached out, grabbed Yang Qi’s hand, and shook it vigorously. "Thank you so much for your help. On behalf of everyone at the Zoo, I’d like to express our sincerest gratitude."

"You’re being too kind, Director Li. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time."

Yang Qi replied humbly, then asked, "What about the other White Tiger? Is there any news?"

"Yes! Yes!"

Minister Wang quickly answered, "We just got word. The other one was found in the abandoned factory district on the west side of the city. A professional has already successfully tranquilized it. It’s being safely loaded onto another transport truck and is on its way here now. It should arrive in about half an hour."

"That’s good. Was anyone hurt?" Yang Qi pressed.

"No, no."

Minister Wang said, relieved. "It caused a panic while on the loose, which indirectly led to a few people falling and getting scraped up, but they were all minor injuries. There were no reported incidents of it directly attacking anyone."

Yang Qi nodded.

By now, the sky had begun to darken, and the setting sun’s last rays bathed the Zoo in a golden light.

Director Li extended a warm invitation. "Advisor Yang, it’s getting late. Why don’t you stay and have a simple meal with us here at the Zoo? It would be our pleasure to show a small token of our appreciation."

"Thank you, Director Li."

Yang Qi politely declined. "I appreciate the offer, but Director Tang and the task force at the City Bureau are waiting for me. The case is urgent, so I can’t stay. As for dinner, maybe after the case is closed."

Just as he said that, the sound of an engine announced the arrival of his SUV, which pulled up and stopped nearby.

Shen Ruiping got out of the driver’s seat and opened the rear door.

Bai Wan immediately hopped out of the back seat, trotted over to Yang Qi’s side, and affectionately nuzzled his leg.

"See? Captain Shen is here to pick me up," Yang Qi said with a laugh.

"In that case, once the case is closed, you must give us the chance to treat you to a meal, Advisor Yang," Director Li insisted.

Yang Qi agreed with a smile.

After another round of pleasantries and thanks,

Yang Qi got into his car with Bai Wan and Xiaojiu.

With Shen Ruiping at the wheel, they drove away from the Binjiang Zoo, heading for the Binjiang City Public Security Bureau.

By the time they arrived at the City Bureau, night had fallen.

The building was brightly lit; clearly, many people were still working overtime.

Instead of taking him to an office, Shen Ruiping led Yang Qi and his two animals directly to the City Bureau’s cafeteria.

There, in a small private room in the cafeteria, after washing his hands, Yang Qi met Tang Yuan. Tang Yuan was the deputy director of the Binjiang City Bureau, overseeing criminal investigations, and also the head of the special task force. Several other core members of the task force were also present.

Tang Yuan was a man in his fifties. He was in good shape, with bright eyes and a natural air of authority, yet the smile on his face was sincere.

He personally rose to his feet and came forward to shake Yang Qi’s hand.

"Hello, Advisor Yang. Welcome to Binjiang. I’m Tang Yuan."

"You’ve barely arrived in the city, and you’ve already helped us solve a huge problem."

"A frightened tiger loose on the streets... If that had been handled improperly, the consequences would have been unthinkable."

"On behalf of the Binjiang City Bureau, thank you for stepping in to help!"

With that, he took two steps back and gave Yang Qi a solemn salute.

Seeing this, the others quickly followed suit, saluting in unison!
