Chapter 304: Chapter 185: Urban Tiger’s Roar

"Woof~"

[Understood]

Bai Wan responded.

Yang Qi spun around and sprinted toward the intersection behind him, the source of the tiger’s roar.

"Meow~"

Xiaojiu meowed at Bai Wan.

[You stay here and watch the car. I’m going to help Master.]

Without waiting for Bai Wan to react, it nimbly leaped from the back row into the driver’s seat. It used a paw to push open the car door, which Yang Qi hadn’t fully closed, and shot out like a black bolt of lightning. Landing silently, it raced off in the direction Yang Qi had gone.

"Woof?"

Bai Wan froze for a second. It wanted to give chase, but then it remembered Yang Qi’s order to stay. It could only pace anxiously in the car before letting out a low bark in the direction Xiaojiu had vanished.

In the passenger seat, Shen Ruiping finally snapped out of his shock from the series of sudden events. He took a deep breath to suppress his horror, quickly pulled out his phone, and dialed a number.

"This is Shen Ruiping. There’s a tiger loose in the city, located near the intersection of East Renmin Road and Jiefang Road. Requesting immediate backup!"

"I repeat..."

...

Yang Qi didn’t get far before he lost sight of the tiger.

The street was in chaos from the earlier panic. People were scattering in all directions, and cars were strewn about haphazardly.

"Meow~"

Just then, a familiar black shadow darted out from a nearby alley. It was Xiaojiu.

It landed lightly at Yang Qi’s feet and looked up, meowing.

[Master, this way. I’ve picked up its scent.]

With that, it turned and ran toward a small community greenbelt around the corner, where a sparse, man-made grove of trees stood.

Yang Qi immediately followed.

’Since Xiaojiu followed me out, I might as well bring it along and play it by ear.’

Besides, having Xiaojiu as a "guide" with its superior sense of smell and tracking ability was far more efficient than searching blindly on his own.

Xiaojiu led the way, deftly weaving around obstacles and through the edges of the chaotic crowd.

Less than three hundred meters later, terrified screams and an even more chaotic scene erupted ahead.

Cars were stopped erratically all over the street; some had even scraped against each other in minor collisions. Drivers and passengers had abandoned their vehicles, fleeing into roadside shops and buildings. The street was almost completely paralyzed.

Yang Qi paid no mind to the chaos, following Xiaojiu. He tracked the tiger’s scent and the trail of disruption, eventually turning into a relatively secluded pocket park.

The park wasn’t large, consisting mainly of greenery and simple recreational facilities. It was now completely deserted, save for startled birds taking flight.

From the small grove, the sound of heavy footsteps and low, uneasy panting could be heard.

Yang Qi signaled for Xiaojiu to slow down, and man and cat slowly approached the edge of the grove.

Through the gaps in the leaves and branches, he could see the magnificent Bengal White Tiger pacing restlessly within the grove.

It seemed bewildered by the completely unfamiliar environment of steel and concrete. Its massive body formed a strange and dangerous contrast with the delicate landscaping around it.

The Bengal White Tiger occasionally lifted its head, warily surveying the streets and tall buildings outside, a suppressed growl rumbling in its throat.

"Xiaojiu, you stay out here," Yang Qi ordered in a low voice.

"Meow~"

Xiaojiu responded with a soft meow. In a flash, it leaped onto a branch of a nearby decorative tree, giving it a high vantage point from which to observe the situation inside the grove and monitor the park entrance and surrounding streets.

Yang Qi composed himself, took some calming powder from his Hundred Pouches Belt, and walked slowly into the grove. His steps were light, but he made no effort to conceal his presence.

The moment Yang Qi set foot in the grove, the Bengal White Tiger spun around. Its amber eyes locked onto Yang Qi, its massive body crouched low in a defensive stance, and a threatening growl rumbled deep in its throat.

"Hey, relax, relax. I’m not here to hurt you."

Yang Qi used his Basic Spirit Communication Technique as the calming powder in his hand silently dispersed, the fine dust drifting through the air.

"I’m here to help you."

[Untamed "Mutated Earth-Splitting Battle Tiger" detected. Host can bring it back to the sect for contribution points.]

’Earth-Splitting Battle Tiger?’

Yang Qi raised an eyebrow slightly.

The powder’s effect was immediate. The ferocity and tension in the Bengal White Tiger’s eyes, born from the unfamiliar environment and its own panic, rapidly faded.

It blinked its enormous eyes, staring in confusion at the approaching Yang Qi. Its nose twitched as if trying to identify the scent and the source of the reassuring feeling.

It let out a low growl, but this time, it held much less threat and more curiosity and surprise.

[What kind of Two-legged Beast are you? How can you speak our language?]

It turned its head again to look at the streets and buildings outside the grove, its voice tinged with confusion and urgency.

[Where is this place?]

[I want to go home.]

"Okay, okay, I’ll help you get home."

Yang Qi went along with it, soothingly, "As long as you behave, listen to me, don’t run around, and don’t hurt any other Two-legged Beasts, I’ll figure out a way to take you home."

[Really?]

The Bengal White Tiger was skeptical, but the calming powder continued to work its magic, further soothing its agitated emotions. It began to feel an instinctual trust toward this Two-legged Beast who could "communicate" and who radiated a calming presence.

It growled again.

[You can’t lie to me.]

"Of course. I won’t lie to you."

As Yang Qi spoke, he sprinkled some more calming powder and offered reassurance. "I’ll contact your ’home’ right now and have them come pick you up."

The "home" he referred to was, of course, the zoo or whichever facility was responsible for it.

The White Tiger understood the word "home." A contented purr rumbled in its throat as its massive body slowly relaxed, and it finally lay down on the grass. However, its eyes remained fixed vigilantly on the noisy world outside.

Just as Yang Qi’s soothing words faded—

"WEE-WOO—WEE-WOO—WEE-WOO—"

The urgent, piercing wail of sirens suddenly erupted from all directions.

Growing louder as they drew near, they quickly surrounded the entire pocket park.

On the streets flanking the park, a fleet of police cars, SWAT vehicles, and even fire trucks and ambulances, all with flashing red and blue lights, arrived at lightning speed. They quickly established a perimeter, clearing out the remaining onlookers and nearby vehicles.

Fully armed SWAT officers holding riot shields and firearms began cautiously advancing into the park in tactical formation, their focus on the small grove.

The buzzing sound of a drone’s rotors could even be heard from above.

"ROAR—!!"
