Chapter 261: Chapter 202: The Clever Saint Master

However, something like the Kaleidoscope Demon Eye was ultimately a matter of luck, not something one could actively seek out. Thus, for the second phase of modification surgeries, Isaac’s plans were a bit more conventional.

The three modification surgeries of the second phase were: blood modification, Magic Circuit modification, and Life Force Field modification. Compared to the first phase, the second focused more on modifying the body’s internal systems, allowing him to better adapt to the world of Magic.

At the same time, due to their unique nature, these modifications would in turn subtly influence Isaac’s soul upon completion. This would allow him to undergo a sublimation during the ascension ritual after the three phases, further integrating all his powers.

Of course, due to the unique nature of these three systems, he couldn’t just crudely graft the corresponding biological tissues onto himself as he did in the first phase.

This phase of modification required first studying the corresponding systems of the Demons to be used, then brewing them into special Magic Potions to be consumed over a long period. It was a slow, gradual process and extremely time-consuming.

The upside, however, was that although the three modifications couldn’t be performed simultaneously, he didn’t need a recovery period for his body after each one, unlike in the first phase. He could move directly on to the next modification.

So, all in all, the total time required wasn’t much longer.

As Isaac immersed himself in his research, time slipped by. Half a year passed in the blink of an eye. By focusing all his energy on his studies, Isaac made rapid progress with the three modifications, completing each one within that short six-month period.

He transplanted Elf Blood, a Fairy Circuit, and a Star Whale Force Field into himself. Besides all possessing the Mysterious Attribute, these three shared another common trait—they were neutral and balanced!

If one were to classify them by alignment, most individuals of these three species would belong to the Neutral Faction—impartial and unbiased.

This was because the second phase of modifications, aside from elevating the soul, had another purpose: to balance the modifications of the first and third phases.

The tissues Isaac had grafted during the first phase were mostly from the Evil Faction. In contrast, one of the other two phases required a combination of modifications from the Justice Faction.

Using Justice Faction components for the second phase was clearly unsuitable, as their fundamental Concepts would conflict to some degree. Therefore, a buffer was needed between them.

Of course, this combination wasn’t strictly necessary. He could, in fact, mix and match as he pleased. Even if a conflict arose, the influence would be negligible. After all, only a part of the Concept was transplanted, and whether he accepted these Concepts was entirely up to him.

For example, even if all nine modifications across the three phases came from Evil Faction creatures, it wouldn’t affect him in the slightest. As long as he didn’t wish it, he would not become evil.

It was just that Isaac was a bit of a perfectionist, which was the only reason he did it this way.

After completing the three modifications, Isaac immediately began preparations for Saint Master’s first devouring ritual.

As for Saint Master’s future development, the name itself revealed Isaac’s expectations. He was modeling it after that one untrustworthy Demon—though, on the matter of trustworthiness, Isaac hoped his creation wouldn’t follow that example.

’It’d be better if this Saint Master had some integrity!’

Therefore, he didn’t hesitate much when choosing Saint Master’s target for devouring. He just had to copy the answer sheet.

Initially, however, Isaac had wanted to build an intelligence network. His plan was for Saint Master to first devour the power of the Shadow Demon God, master the power of shadow, and use it as a foundation to connect his Secret Mages. This would allow him to lay the groundwork for an intelligence network, with the ultimate goal of raising the Shadow Legion.

’It has to be said, those things are incredibly useful for gathering intelligence.’

That step, however, was incredibly difficult to achieve. So, after acquiring the Dimension Apostles, the pressure on Saint Master in this regard was greatly reduced. Naturally, the target was changed to the Dimensional Power it was most proficient with—the power of the Purgatory Demon God.

Perhaps influenced by the violent tendencies of the Dragon Blood in its body, Saint Master had a great talent for learning the Purgatory Demon God’s Secret Skills. Of all the Secret Skills, it had learned the most from this particular god, and had also mastered them most deeply!

And so, naturally, this Demon God became the "lucky one" chosen by Isaac!

A devouring ritual was different from a transaction ritual. It wasn’t as ancient, and it lacked a supreme treasure like the Gate of Legends for suppression, making the risks much greater.

Furthermore, Dimensional Demon Gods were among the Outer Gods with the greatest influence on the Real World, which raised the danger of the devouring ritual even higher!

Fortunately, however, that only applied to normal circumstances.

And this was clearly an extraordinary situation. After all, Isaac had a cheat!

The structure of the devouring ritual itself was complex, but it really only had three functions: to guide the descent of the Demon God’s power, to restrict that same descent, and to stabilize Saint Master’s vital condition.

All the power of the devouring ritual revolved around these three points. As for the most important aspect—the devouring itself...

...that wasn’t a major concern, thanks to the power from the White Whale. As long as Saint Master didn’t die, it would be fine.

As was his custom, Isaac pushed the ritual’s margin for error to its upper limit of one thousand percent. After checking the ritual one last time, he shook his head and gestured for Saint Master to stand in the center of the formation.

Once Saint Master was in position, Isaac lowered his gaze and tugged down the wide brim of his hat. A bizarre fluctuation of Magic Power emanated from him, activating the ritual. Eerie currents of air began to drift back and forth across the highest floor of the Mage Tower.

Simultaneously, at the center of the ritual, crimson rifts in Space materialized around Saint Master. A scorching, malevolent Magic Power flowed out, pooling at the edges of the rifts. It attempted to erode the very rifts the ritual had created, trying to widen them and allow the Purgatory Demon God to send down even more of its Magic Power!

Perhaps even to step into this world itself!

A fine idea, but reality was harsh.

Although the quality of the Magic Power descending from the Purgatory Demon God was immense, its quantity was minimal, strictly controlled by Isaac to remain within a safe range. This energy was held fast by the ritual’s power, unable to widen the rifts by a single inch.

Of course, the Purgatory Demon God’s power was still descending continuously. While the amount was currently small, the ritual’s power would eventually be unable to restrain it. Given enough time, the Purgatory Demon God would still achieve its goal.

However, Saint Master clearly had no intention of giving it the chance to accumulate Magic Power!

As the Purgatory Demon God’s Dimensional Magic Power descended, Saint Master let out a low roar. Blood-red, flame-like patterns surfaced on its two golden claws—a sign of having practiced the Purgatory Demon God’s Secret Skills to a certain depth. After these patterns appeared, the Purgatory Demon God’s Magic Power clearly showed a greater affinity for Saint Master.

Then, at Saint Master’s call, the Purgatory Magic Power began to instinctively surge toward it, as that was the only direction unimpeded by the ritual’s power.

After absorbing this Magic Power, the flame patterns on Saint Master’s claws grew even hotter and more vivid. In that instant, its mastery of the Purgatory Demon God’s Secret Skills advanced by leaps and bounds!

Dimensional Demon Gods had always been very generous to their Secret Mages, because the more power they borrowed, the closer they came to becoming the Demon God’s Apostle... or even a part of its power.

It was just that this particular Purgatory Demon God had clearly never had dealings with Isaac before...

After beginning to absorb the Purgatory Demon God’s Magic Power, before its own soul could be eroded, Saint Master brazenly activated the devouring ability from the White Whale!

It let out another low, hoarse roar as a series of gill-like organs appeared on both sides of its long, thick neck. These organs slowly opened and closed, jetting out streams of impure Magic Power like currents of air.

Of course, Saint Master’s two nostrils were also jetting air.

Yes, these suddenly appearing gill-like organs were not actually gills. In reality, they were nostrils shaped like gills!

Because whales are mammals; they don’t have gills.

It was just that the illiterate Saint Master obviously didn’t know this. In its mind, a White Whale was a fish, and if it was a fish, then it must have gills.

Thus, whenever it activated the ability, these nostrils would appear in the shape of gills.
