Chapter 260: Chapter 202: The Smart Saint Master

At the Terra Empire branch of the Truth Association, Avin stepped out of his laboratory after completing an experiment. He gazed at the azure sky and sighed. The experiment had been a perfect success, and he had met all the conditions for promotion to a Tier Two Arcanist. So why couldn’t he feel the least bit happy?

"Sigh..." Avin’s heart grew heavy as he thought of the letter from Isaac. ’That guy... he really went down that path in the end.’

He hesitated at the door for a moment, but his better nature ultimately prevailed. With another sigh, he abandoned the thought of quietly slipping away and decided to report the matter to his teacher, Grand Arcanist Yog Doros.

Avin believed it was only a matter of time before Isaac’s actions led to disaster.

It wouldn’t be so bad if Isaac crashed and burned on his own. The problem was, if he failed, he would inevitably drag the Terra Empire down with him!

He might even drag down the Terra Empire without failing at all!

For the Outer Gods, it might be difficult to identify the specific Mad Witch they’re dealing with, but simply confirming his location? That would be no trouble at all.

One might even call it easy.

Therefore, as long as Isaac lived, the Terra Empire was doomed to face calamity, even with the immensely powerful Emperor to stand guard!

...Avin had considered running away.

But in the end, he decided against it. Instead, he would first confess everything to his teacher, and then...

Avin sighed, looking up at the sky that appeared so blue and clear. ’This world, in the end, still belongs to the Nobility,’ he thought. ’The Truth Association is only clean by comparison.’ As someone of noble birth himself, he should have realized the underlying issues long ago.

Shaking his head, Avin turned to leave. His teacher hadn’t said much, but Avin understood the unspoken message. This matter was beyond his capabilities—and those of his family. The only thing he could do now was nothing.

Inside the laboratory, Yog Doros sensed Avin’s presence depart. He couldn’t help but set down the Magic Materials in his hands and let out a faint sigh.

He knew what Avin was thinking, but the matter wasn’t as simple as his student imagined. First, there was the rule established by the Great Wizards: High-level Mages were forbidden from forcing lower-level Mad Witches to transact with Outer Gods. This alone meant the Truth Association couldn’t force Isaac to stop.

And even if that rule didn’t exist, the Truth Association wouldn’t intervene to pressure Isaac. Not on this matter, at least.

Because... the Terra Empire had existed for far too long... The vast Empire had made too many enemies... And the wealth this prosperous Empire had accumulated was simply too tempting...

That was why many people didn’t want Isaac to stop. If they weren’t wary of the Terra Royal Family’s reaction, some factions might have even stepped forward to fund his ceremonies...

But there was no need for his student to know any of this. It would only cause him needless grief.

Under these circumstances, the fact that the Mad Witch tradition was merely condemned by all, rather than being utterly eradicated, spoke volumes.

After all, Necromancers—who were far less of a threat—were treated much more harshly than Mad Witches.

So, there had to be some unwritten rules at play that he wasn’t aware of. Not that it mattered to Isaac; he didn’t much care either way.

Right now, he was completely engrossed in the second phase of his personal transformation. The first phase of the procedure had been, one could say, perfect. It had not only brought him a sufficient amount of the [Mysterious] attribute but had also granted him the exceedingly powerful Evil Third Eye.
