Chapter 203: Chapter 161: The Eldest Princess’s Compassion?
Isaac’s Dimension World wasn’t large, but it was more than enough to store energy and these Concepts.
While the gamble was a bit steep—one small mistake and he could lose the entire Dimension World.
But if the ritual failed, his life would be forfeit anyway. What use would the Dimension World be then?
Going all-in is a form of wisdom!
...
While Isaac was busy arranging the ritual, Lorna led Aein out of the castle. They crossed a clean, tidy dividing line and entered the area where the other inhabitants of the fortress lived.
Standing on the dividing line, Lorna fell silent. A single line was all that separated the two areas, yet the environments were worlds apart.
In the past, during her travels, Lorna had encountered Nobility who clearly demarcated their own districts from the commoner areas. But in those cases, it was just a boundary; the commoners’ standard of living wasn’t too terrible.
Or rather, their lives simply weren’t as luxurious as those in the noble district.
In some commercial towns, the opposite was even true—the commoner district would be more prosperous than the one for the Nobility!
"Puh puh~"
Just as Lorna was lost in thought, Aein extended a tentacle, poked her cheek, and then pointed toward the fortress wall.
Lorna followed Aein’s gesture. Her azure pupils flickered before transforming into a pair of dark gold, slit pupils.
Magic: Dragon’s Eye.
In an instant, the buildings blocking her view became ethereal, and the scene on the fortress wall appeared before her eyes.
The Soldiers stood as motionless as clay statues. This wasn’t because of their outstanding military discipline, however, but because they had all been frozen in place by a Demon!
A faint green light glowed on their bodies—the Evil Energy of a Demon!
But to Lorna’s surprise, the Evil Energy—which was normally extremely corrosive to non-Demonic creatures—was unusually docile. It merely held them in place and hadn’t begun to erode their life forms.
It hadn’t even started to erode their life force, let alone their life forms!
’What terrifying control!’
’Is this a High-Position Demon?’
Gazing at the winged phantom hovering above the fortress, Lorna’s heart skipped a beat. Her wariness of Demons rose to another level.
Based on her few conversations with other Witches, she had once yearned for the power of Demons. After all, for a Witch, a Demon wasn’t such a dangerous Existence, provided it was handled correctly.
Of course, they weren’t much trouble for modern-day Wizards either.
Now, however, Lorna felt the matter required more careful consideration.
’At her level, she wasn’t sure she could control such a powerful Demon!’
"Looks like we don’t need to intervene over there." Lorna retracted her gaze and led Aein into the commoner’s district, her expression somber. "Come on, let’s figure out how we can help these people."
"Puh~" Aein chirped. It flew up from Lorna’s shoulder and, under her curious gaze, began to dance lightly in the air, tracing a series of free-flowing curves.
But more importantly, as Aein danced, a peculiar form of Magic began to emanate from it. Though it was the first time she had ever felt this type of Magic, Lorna somehow recognized it at a glance—Transformation Magic!
What happened next confirmed her conclusion. Wherever Aein’s Magic Power touched, all the filth transformed into blooming flowers, green leaves, and clear water...
Even food!
In the blink of an eye, the commoner’s district of Roton Fortress was transformed from a Hell into a paradise!
Lorna watched this scene in amazement. She spun around, taking in the scent of the flowers, then curiously plucked a red blossom. To her surprise, it was real!
’It really turned into a flower!’
’It isn’t just a simple Illusion Magic!’
’Transformation Magic... it’s incredible!’
But then, Lorna froze. ’If the flower is real, then doesn’t that mean the food and water are too...?’
The realization hitting her, Lorna rushed over to the bread and water to check. She was overjoyed to discover that they were real too!
She was overjoyed. ’With such incredible Transformation Magic, everything that came next would be much easier.’
However, was that really the case?
"Puh puh~"
Just as Lorna was rejoicing in the wonder of the Transformation Magic, Aein let out a dejected cry and landed wearily on her shoulder, its face etched with exhaustion.
Although Transformation Magic was the Racial Magic of the Fairy Elves, performing such a large-scale, genuine transformation was still very taxing for Aein in its current state.
However, if it were only a matter of exertion, that would have been fine...
Hearing Aein’s cry, Lorna steadied the little creature on her shoulder and quickly looked at the surrounding people. Then, to her surprise, she discovered that they didn’t seem happy about the flowers and food at all...
Of course, it wasn’t that they were completely devoid of emotion. They showed more fear...
And a hint of relief...
Neither Lorna nor Aein knew that something similar had happened before. In fact, it was an annual occurrence. To provide a "comfortable environment" for outsiders, the Itra Kingdom would open its granaries and provide everyone with a hearty meal.
For one, it was an ancient ritual meant to display the "benevolence" of the Nobility, and many of them savored the feeling of saving people from dire straits. For another...
It was also their last meal!
Although the rules stipulated that only Artificial Humans could be used for the blood sacrifice, how could a soulless Artificial Human compare to a real human being?
In this cruel game, it wasn’t uncommon for some to mix real humans in with the Artificial Humans for the sacrifice. In a Kingdom this chaotic, no one would say a thing if a few people went missing.
The Transformation Magic could cleanse the entire fortress of its filth, but it couldn’t cleanse the darkness from their hearts...
Not even a little...
This was also why Aein was so dejected...
Lorna soon figured this out as well and sighed. ’Looks like we have our work cut out for us.’
"How interesting. So this is the Transformation Magic of a Fairy Elf?"
Just as Lorna was sighing, Philo appeared at her side, gazing with admiration at the surrounding flowers, food, and clear water.
"Princess Philo!" Lorna was startled at first, then watched her warily. Although she didn’t know the details of the enmity between Isaac and Philo, it was easy to see that Isaac and this princess did not get along.
By extension, she didn’t much like this princess either.
Of course, she didn’t care much for Angel either. Isaac’s attitude toward her was decent enough, but Lorna always felt there was something off about the way Angel looked at him. It was a look of wariness—the kind of look you give a madman.
She hated it.
But the one she detested most was Philo.
’A member of the Nobility, and one who has a conflict with Isaac!’
That was why she was so on guard the moment Philo appeared.
"Don’t be so tense," Philo said with a faint smile. "On this matter, at least, I’m here to help."
Lorna’s brow furrowed. Was it her imagination, or did she detect a hint of tenderness in Philo’s smile?
