Chapter 437: Chapter 90: Foundation Establishment
"Wind, thunder, water..."
"Elementalization..."
Ostun muttered to himself, his face a mask of awe and gravity.
He watched the dark green Withering Wind turn life to dust, the azure light of destructive thunder annihilate all matter, and the cerulean, endless flood devour everything.
’So pure, so close to the essence. Those old geezers from the Inheritance Sect... cooped up in the Sanctuary, gnawing on relics for a decade. It seems they’ve finally chewed out something real.’
The Gray Robe Attendant beside him—or rather, the Wizard from the Silver Tower—spoke up.
"Breath of Withering, Annihilating Lightning, the Endless Spring... The relics they’ve fused with are shifting their very life forms closer to becoming phenomena themselves. Calvin is becoming a part of the withering, Raphael is transforming into pure, destructive thunder, and the boundaries of Sigrid’s existence are merging with endless water."
Ostun’s eyes narrowed slightly.
’So this is the next stage of the Path? Abandoning the shackles of the humanoid form and human thought, merging with some fundamental world rule or phenomenon to become beings closer to Natural Deities or Celestial Calamity Incarnations?’
"The price is also obvious," the Gray Robe Wizard added calmly. "Their self-awareness is being eroded by the phenomena. Their thought patterns are growing closer and closer to the very rules they represent—Calvin’s paranoia, Raphael’s fury, Sigrid’s melancholy. Eventually, they might completely lose their human forms and minds, becoming true natural disasters."
"At least it’s a proven, viable Path to a higher form of life," Ostun continued. "It seems the Church Court really kicked the hornet’s nest with this coronation. However..."
Before Ostun could finish, the situation on the distant battlefield changed abruptly!
The "Wall of Faith" erupted with unprecedented brilliance. Chains of Faith crisscrossed through the air, brutally suppressing the three powers of wind, thunder, and water and forcing them back!
The rifts shrank rapidly, and the roars and shrieks of the three Wizards grew distant.
Ostun changed the subject, looking toward the battlefield now enveloped by the Wall of Faith. "The Church Court’s foundations are even deeper than we anticipated. To directly call upon a thousand years of accumulated Faith Willpower... that kind of decisiveness..."
Once again, Ostun’s words were cut short. Just at the moment when it seemed the Church Court was about to achieve a decisive victory...
An earthy-yellow figure, hidden to the point of perfection, erupted from the shadows at the edge of the altar like a phantom. Its withered palm, wreathed in a condensed, deathly light, shot forward with lightning speed, stabbing toward the dazed and broken figure in pure white!
Elizabeth!
Ostun’s pupils contracted violently. A sharp glint seemed to flash in the eyes of the Gray Robe Wizard beside him as well.
"That is..." Ostun’s voice was tinged with disbelief.
"The fourth one..." The Gray Robe Wizard gave a dry chuckle. "The Shadow of the Earth... Muriyas! There aren’t just three of them! A feint... the real killing blow was always here!"
...
「With the Rotalia Imperial Envoy.」
The Imperial Chancellor, Minister of Military Affairs Ulysses, the Third Prince Charles, and several other key ministers and generals formed a relatively stable protective circle, guarded by elite Forbidden Guards.
Their gazes were also captivated by the apocalyptic scene unfolding in the distance.
"The Bone-Eroding Withering Wind, the annihilating lightning that turns all to ash, the endless flood that swallows everything..." The Imperial Chancellor, an old man with graying hair, a gaunt face, and eyes like a hawk, stared at the raging dark green, azure, and cerulean. "To fuse one’s will with the very Origin of the elements to such a degree... to become a natural disaster with every gesture... Is this the Path of ’Elementalization’ mentioned in the ancient texts? It’s simply awe-inspiring."
Beside him, Director Ulysses nodded slightly.
"Power of this magnitude has already surpassed armies, fortresses, and even strategy in the conventional sense. If the Empire could grasp even a fraction of it..."
A mixture of shock and an irrepressible, burning fervor was written on the young face of Third Prince Charles.
He took a deep breath, his voice slightly rushed with excitement. "If the Empire could possess such power... no, even just one of these powers!"
His gaze swept over the other terrified, fleeing representatives in the viewing area, and his voice dropped lower.
"Shouldn’t the map of the Continent be redrawn? Those unruly duchies and city-states that rely on natural barriers or ancient pacts—what room do they have to bargain in the face of true, destructive might? The Empire’s laws and order could finally be enforced across every inch of land under the sun."
"Your Highness, be careful what you say." The Chancellor raised a hand slightly, gesturing for Charles to lower his voice, but his own gaze was just as deep. "Power is alluring, but the Church Court has stood for a thousand years not just on faith and doctrine, but on a Holy Power sufficient to suppress all Heresy. This ’Wall of Faith’ before us is merely the tip of the iceberg of their true foundation." He continued, "However, if the Empire is to truly rule supreme and achieve the great work of centralized power that past emperors failed to complete, it cannot forever remain constrained by others in the highest echelons of Extraordinary power."
An Imperial General in the retinue, a battle-hardened man with a scar on his face, couldn’t help but interject, his voice rough and booming.
"The Lord Chancellor is right! If our Imperial Capital’s Magic Research Institute could cook up something impressive... I’m not saying we need to become walking natural disasters like them, but even if they could just create a weaker version of a ’Withering Realm’ or a ’Thunder Realm’, how many fewer people would die on the front lines? We wouldn’t have to keep throwing our soldiers’ lives away to deal with those rebels and Alien Races hiding in the deep mountains, forests, and misty swamps!"
