Chapter 126: Changing World [Part 1]

Kyla Kain, the woman who had been whisked away by Cindy and Nyx early on in Richard’s magical journey and the daughter of a man who tried to turn Richard into his successor.

This woman with a mixed heritage was currently busy training and learning magic under the Salem Witches while learning from Nyx on the side.

Unlike Richard who was speedrunning through the mystical world because he can, Kyla was moving slowly and carefully.

She had used Richard’s name at first to gain the protection and assistance of the Salem Witches. But after the Goddess came to help the witches, Kyla’s backer had changed after she made a contract with the Goddess.

From a nobody whose sole purpose was to be a connection with Richard, Kyla had now become a truly important individual.

While her connection to Richard was still important, the fact that she had contracted an actual deity, one whose identity was unknown is more important to Salem than a connection with Richard.

Despite not knowing the origins or identity of the Goddess, the power she exhibited had proven her strength.

For such a being to exist and yet remain unknown meant that they came from an era older than the current knowledge of history could explain.

Of course, that "historical knowledge" was not based on the understanding and records of non-mystic society.

It was based on the records of mystics, many of which were recorded by people who lived for multiple centuries- some even living till the current age.

Unlike the books of many religions and countries that record tales written by sages from centuries before talking about events that had transpired centuries before those very sages were born...

The knowledge of mystics who could inquire about corrections to certain bits of information from people who actually experienced that certain era in history-

For such references to be incapable of finding out the origin of the Goddess was enough proof of her powerful background.

"How have you been Kyla?"

A blonde woman wearing an army green crop top, leather jacket and jeans walked into Kyla’s room without even knocking.

Such an act was something few could do, the number of people who could do so could be counted in on hand.

The Goddess was not part of that group and so was Richard as the two didn’t even need to go through the door. They could just appear in the room through a portal if they ever wanted to meet Kyla.

Though in Richard’s case he first had to have the Goddess open a portal as he didn’t know the coordinates of the base where Kyla was currently staying.

The land which had been bought out and owned by Nova Munda was now ravaged after the military had created a research center on top of it.

Now though, the entire site was taken over by Nova Munda mystics who reclaimed the land and all the structures already established after the secret civil war ended.

Of course, the blonde woman was not someone who Richard was unfamiliar with.

"Tanya!"

Kyla rushed to the blonde woman, Tanya Fowler, who was also the leader of Nova Munda and until recently was staying with Richard.

After Richard had left for the capital, Tanya took the opportunity to ask the Goddess to bring her back to the US secretly.

While Tanya would have loved to follow Richard and learn more while increasing her mystic strength, there were still a ton of things she had to deal with.

It was especially troublesome for Tanya that her only access to information from the US was limited to what was being sent through the internet and the communication network set up by Yuna and Richard.

Although the information she got showed a very low casualty count, it was not zero.

Unlike the US government that treated its soldiers as cannon fodder, Tanya treated her people in Nova Munda as family.

This is the type of thinking that allowed the organization to maintain its power and numbers through centuries.

Fortunately, the people she left in the US were capable, they were able to adapt quickly and the casualties thankfully were under a hundred.

Not a negligible number but low enough that she wouldn’t need to worry about the organization losing strength.

Moreover, there was an influx of people joining the organization.

Rogue mystics who steered clear of organizations such as Nova Munda and Salem had immediately rushed to join the organizations for protection.

It was truly fortunate that the manager she left behind was truly capable as they segregated the new members.

Those that were long identified as dangerous had been recruited to be fighters and sent to the front lines while the weaker mystics who have zero fighting prowess and were the innocents who were only living quietly until recently were sent to the bases to hide and act as support staff.

The losses to the forces of Nova Munda mainly consisted of the magical criminals who even Nova Munda did not tolerate.

Even the long time members of Noval Munda who died were those that were VERY expressive of their magical abilities and experiments.

Using their enemies to clean up their organization- it was a brutal strategy that could only be employed because of Cindy’s mistake.

Yet, even with Nova Munda being in a rather great state, Tanya still had to stay as she had to deal with the aftermath.

After the war, no matter how short, there were still many things to be done.

In his conflict, what Tanya had to deal with was the influx of non-mystic organizations and powers sending various propositions and requests.

At the site that had been Richard’s Ranch where he had started his magic practice and where he established his first workshop.

The research center and housing that the US military had put up had been improved on and was now being used as an office where the mystic and non-mystic world was conducting meetings.

But those were small matters, the bigger issue that Tanya had to deal with was the void that the FMC had left behind.

The US government had taken complete control over the FMC, instead of a separate organization that "worked alongside" the government, the FMC was now a government organization.

While that should have made the FMC become the main organization to deal with the connection between the mystic and non-mystic worlds, the US government found a different use for it.

The FMC was now a Federal organization and its former members were now busily helping the many states, counties, cities and other local governments establish their own mystic police forces.

Because of that move by the US government, both Nova Munda and Salem had to deal with the remaining rogue mystics who had started to make use of the chaos to look for opportunities to do crazy stunts.

Even now, despite looking well, Tanya had actually just come from an investigation that turned sour.

A mystic had taken hold of an abandoned town in the Nevada Desert, it used to be a place where many criminals and poor folk ran to because housing prices were just too much.

It was a town that had been featured in many online documentaries but after the witch hunt debacle, one mystic decided to turn the town into his own workshop.

The former inhabitants who were people that the country and their relatives had long forgotten were used by the mystic.

What was particularly troublesome about the town was the fact that it was near an actual functioning city and it was just a couple of miles from the main highway.

In fact, some of the town’s former inhabitants had been working at a nearby gas station.

Salem and Nova Munda had picked up on the weirdness of the town because a few tourists had gone missing on the route.

There were more than 50 ghost towns on that route and Tanya had to investigate all of them.

After discovering the mystic, Tanya had to fight the old man who had created a paradise in the desert only for himself.

The inhabitants were all turned into puppets, save for the children, little girls who the old man used for "other purposes".

Unlike some other mystics who were doing crazy and psychotic acts for power, the old man was just a pervert who wanted to spend the rest of his life in bliss.

Fortunately for Tanya, she was able to easily defeat the old man even without the enhancements that Richard had given her.

But dealing with the old man was just the first problem.

What came next was the cleanup, the puppets and the mystical traces in the ghost town were easy but the kids...

SShe had to coordinate with Salem, while the kids didn’t have potential for magic, they still had memories of being treated "badly" by a mystic.

Spells meant to erase memories were rarely perfect. Most of the time, there were ways to bring those memories back.

Only the Goddess and maybe Richard and Morgana could completely erase memories but such an act would still leave traces.

The witch hunts may have quieted down but the US was still in a delicate state. The last thing Tanya wants is for some "victims" to emerge and create another scandal.

Tanya had just returned after sending the kids to an orphanage managed by Salem. They were going to be treated with care and showed the "wonders of magic" while being taught methods to become "mystical without magic".

It was an idea that Tanya based on the mystics from the Philippines.

Concocting salves and other mystical medicines without magic, growing the mystical herbs... Many of these things did not need magic but it did require knowledge and training.

The one group at the ghost town weren’t the only "survivors", there were more from other operations and Tanya had been coordinating with Salem in the implementation of reconciliatory offices all over the nation.

These officers were basically orphanages and rehab centers that helped the "survivors"/"victims" of magic become interested in mystics and help them get back on their feet.

Dealing with that huge project came with not only promises of a better future for mystics but also came with issues.

People who were set in their hate for magic, people who would not accept magic... There were many reasons for them to think in such ways and Tanya came to Kyla’s room to relax.

Kyla’s room was one of the few places where she could relax, mostly because-

"The battle had already come to its end, Richard should complete the Mystical Land in a few more weeks"

The Goddess appeared before the two and told them of the current state of affairs back in the Philippines.
