Chapter 333: Chapter 242: The Deepest Part, an Important Clue
A few hundred words recorded the personal journey of an Alataku Beast Master as they researched various Soul Beast experiments.
Han Ning knew nothing about the Spiritual Remains, Hubs, and other things mentioned within.
However, he did learn from this "diary" that the Alataku People seemed to have long had a plan to retreat.
They seemed to be conducting a major experiment, one that would consume a massive amount of some kind of Power on the continent.
He picked up the other pages and continued to translate and look through them... only to find that most of what was recorded were trivial matters. It wasn’t that they were useless, but they didn’t answer the questions in his heart.
"Let’s head deeper inside. According to the descriptions in these diaries, this tower is divided into several great halls, which house important materials of the Alataku People related to Soul Beast cultivation, daily production, their race’s civilization, and so on."
Han Ning said, flipping through a thin booklet.
This booklet must have been left behind by an Alataku Person who held a position similar to a librarian in the tower. It recorded parts of his daily life and also detailed the layout of some of the interior areas.
This gave Han Ning, who had been completely in the dark, a better understanding of this "library."
The interior of the tower was actually quite plain. Aside from the exquisite murals, the rest was built from large, specially-cut stone blocks, giving it a rugged and unadorned aesthetic.
It seemed only the homes of the nobility were decorated with exquisite works of art.
The more Han Ning learned about the customs of the Alatake Clan, the stranger this mysterious group seemed.
Their technological development was completely out of sync with their quality of daily life.
It was like a malformed adult: their technological level was a long, thick right leg, while their standard of living was a deformed left leg, atrophied to the point of being almost nonexistent.
They had an Extraordinary understanding of Spiritual Energy and could create incomprehensible Golems, yet they used such a primitive method of record-keeping.
...
Han Ning and his Soul Beasts walked out of the first great hall, passed through a spacious corridor, and, guided by the pages, arrived in an even grander and more expansive hall.
This hall was about fifty percent larger than the first. In the center stood a large stone table that was part of the floor, and the surrounding rock walls were likewise carved with murals depicting various scenes.
In addition, there were several stone doors in various directions, leading to unknown destinations.
"This was a place where the Beast Masters in the tower discussed their work. If they found any inspiration in the library, for instance, they could come here for a long talk with their colleagues and brainstorm."
Han Ning said casually, stroking the slightly rough surface of the stone table.
"The Legacy Tower also seems to have been responsible for maintaining order in the vicinity."
He pointed to the largest stone mural at the very front of the council hall and said to Hom:
"This mural depicts every director of the Legacy Tower, along with their most powerful Soul Beast partners."
"On the far right is the last High Priest of the Legacy Tower, Sarris."
Han Ning drew closer and saw, on the right side of the massive mural, the carving of a middle-aged man. He had slightly curly hair that fell to his shoulders, a thick beard, and a gentle gaze fixed forward.
Judging by his appearance, this Sarris didn’t much resemble some of the other Alataku People. His relatively refined and handsome features were more akin to Fei Lin’s bloodline.
Beside High Priest Sarris stood a peculiar Soul Beast of about the same height. Its entire body was wrapped in a shadowy black cloak, revealing only a pair of wise eyes.
Han Ning also noticed that all the previous directors to the left had mostly humanoid features. Furthermore, the Soul Beasts beside them were all precisely the same height as their human partners, never taller.
Hom guessed, "It’s probably to show that humans and Soul Beasts have equal status, that they are the closest of partners. Although the Alataku People are cold and ruthless, and love to conduct experiments on living Soul Beasts, they treat their own contracted Soul Beasts as beings more important than their own Descendants."
’That’s understandable, but... why was he the last director of the Legacy Tower? What happened after him?’ Han Ning muttered to himself.
That was a question that none of the beings present could likely answer.
"What a complicated question. Let’s not dwell on it for now. We should keep moving," Hom said, its eyes shifting toward the depths of the hall.
The human and Soul Beast wasted no more words. Following the directions from the pages, Han Ning led the Soul Beasts to a closed stone door on the left.
With his hands behind his back, he looked up at the stone door, which was considerably taller than him. A faint light glimmered in his eyes as he said, "Behind this door should be the deepest part of the Legacy Tower. If there are any secrets, they should be kept in there."
After speaking, he took a deep breath and placed his hands on the stone door. A faint blue light flickered in his eyes.
Data scrolled frantically across the panel, like a waterfall.
Slender blue lights formed a massive grid, rapidly analyzing whether any locking mechanism was hidden within the door.
Suddenly.
On the surface of the originally plain and ancient stone door, a ripple of ebon light suddenly appeared, spreading rapidly outward from the center like a spiderweb.
Han Ning pushed.
The web-like pattern pulsed, flickering erratically as if it were breathing.
RUMBLE...
The sound of a heavy, ancient object moving echoed through the quiet corridor.
The stone door was incredibly heavy. Only when Han Ning put all his strength into it did a crack begin to appear in the sealed doorway.
