Chapter 332: Chapter 241: Hall of Inheritance (Part 2)

"Even if they enter the real world, their power will be greatly diminished due to the lack of Energy."

"By the same token, we would be just as out of place if we entered the Netherworld. It lacks other types of Elements, making it a completely barren land for us. Other than Beast Masters who raise Dark or Undead Type Soul Beasts, most living beings have no reason to concern themselves with rifts to the Netherworld."

Hearing Hom’s explanation, Han Ning came to a realization.

"Hmm... so the Netherworld is just like any other Mysterious Space that contains Spiritual Particles of the Wood, Fire, Wind, and other Elements. It’s dangerous, but as long as you don’t go recklessly exploring, the two worlds won’t have much of an impact on each other."

"Correct. But I should mention that Fei Lin’s evolution materials will likely involve some things from the Netherworld. When the time comes, you’ll probably have to take a trip to a Netherworld rift."

"Do you humans have any inherited knowledge about the Dark Mirror Knight’s evolution in your Beast Taming traditions? If not, you’ll have to go to the Alataku People’s library to find the method."

Fei Lin was Hom’s daughter, so Hom was especially concerned about her evolution.

"Don’t worry, I have the relevant inherited knowledge."

Han Ning gave a slight smile.

"That’s good."

...

Over the next period of time, Han Ning led his Soul Beasts and began searching all over Night Nether City.

There weren’t many buildings still standing—only a dozen or so.

Guided by his panel’s Authentication and Hom’s analysis, Han Ning entered the towers one by one.

Some towers were places the Alataku People used for meetings and didn’t contain any special treasures.

Others were the residences of certain nobles. Although their furnishings were rich with the unique death-centric style of the Alatak and must have once been incredibly luxurious, they had long since been plundered, leaving behind nothing but empty towers.

Just as Han Ning finished searching his fifth tower, he finally found what he was looking for.

The Tower of Heritage.

Han Ning gazed at the tower’s stone gate, which was covered in carved, scroll-like patterns. Using his panel’s Authentication-breaking function, he disabled the external Energy mechanism and walked inside.

TAP, TAP, TAP~

The sound of his footsteps echoed in the empty corridor.

The entrance opened into a vast hall.

The surrounding walls were painted with numerous portraits in the style of the Alatake Clan.

"This place... I remember coming here once."

On the back of Fei Lin’s smooth hand, Hom’s slightly menacing eyeball blinked, looking around frequently.

"After I was made into a Biological Armor, the Alatak researcher who worked on me came here."

"Looks like everything in the tower has been taken."

Han Ning frowned, his gaze sweeping over the empty stone shelves.

The Alataku People had many ways of passing down knowledge. They were divided into numerous branches, each using different methods of recording information.

There were Beast Hide Scrolls, stone tablets, paper made from leaves, and even psychic transmission.

As they spoke, a stone door carved with mysterious patterns blocked their path.

The patterns on the stone door were peculiar, shaped like curling waves. If one stared intently, they could almost hear the sound of the ocean tide crashing.

Han Ning reached out and touched the stone door. A faint blue light flickered.

The panel instantly broke the Spiritual Energy encryption technology within.

The stone door swung inward, revealing a spacious hall behind it.

A gust of cold, sinister wind blew out from the pitch-black hall, lifting the hair at Han Ning’s temples.

Yin Yi walked in first, her body glowing brilliantly and illuminating the dark surroundings.

A series of exquisite stone murals came into Han Ning’s view.

The first thing Han Ning saw on the mural was a colossal figure.

It was a creature resembling a whale. It had three pairs of huge pectoral fins, and the tip of each fin had four ghastly white, diamond-shaped structures.

It had red stripes on its chin, around its eyes, on the back of its fins, and along its torso. There was a mark resembling a Demon on its forehead.

This "whale" was made entirely of bone. Although only a skeleton remained, it still seemed extremely "massive."

Inside the tower, the space wasn’t particularly high or wide, but the overwhelming aura that rushed out from the mural, like that of a sovereign of the seas, gave one a sense of infinite grandeur.

"That’s a Gray Demon Whale, a special creature that lives in the Netherworld. It’s likely the totem Soul Beast of a certain clan within the Alatak."

Listening to Hom’s explanation, Han Ning took a few steps forward and stopped before the towering mural, tilting his head up to give it a quick look.

The mural’s content was relatively simple. It depicted some short, rather ugly creatures worshiping the Gray Demon Whale and building a palace for it.

During the construction, the figures of many Soul Beasts appeared, including Shadow Reapers, some Soul Beasts he couldn’t name, and even Dark Mirror Knights.

In the empty space below the mural, there were several rows of old stone shelves.

"One, two, three... five rows in total."

Han Ning counted them. On the five rows of shelves, there were about thirty-odd bone boxes of various sizes.

This was the only area in the entire hall where things were stored.

"Come on, let’s go see what kind of treasures are in these boxes."

Han Ning called out and walked over to a pile of bone boxes.

He fixed his gaze on one of the boxes and activated his Authentication function.

[

Item Name: White Bone Box

Rarity: Lord

Introduction: A box made from the bones of a Lord Level Soul Beast. Its structure is sturdy and its material light, making it easy to transport.

]

Han Ning casually picked up a broken, mailbox-sized bone box and opened it with almost no effort.

When he opened the box, a milky-white piece of bone lay quietly at the bottom.

He picked up the palm-length bone, clenched it in his hand, and shook it to feel its weight. ’So heavy,’ he thought. ’It must weigh two or three hundred pounds...’

Keep in mind that he had been strengthened by Spiritual Energy and the All-Encompassing Spiritual Silkworm for quite some time. His physical strength had already surpassed the Awakened Level, yet just holding the bone sent a heavy strain through his wrist.

He studied it in his hand for a long time but couldn’t figure out what it was. To help Hom recover his memory, he didn’t use Authentication right away. Instead, he turned to the constantly blinking eyeball.

"What is this?"

Hom glanced at it and answered immediately, "A piece of a Gray Demon Whale’s bone. It’s filled with dense Undead and Dark Type Energy. Soul Beasts with an affinity for those two Elements can accelerate their growth by eating it."

"It can also be used as an evolution material for certain Soul Beasts."

Hearing this, Han Ning used his Authentication function and found that it confirmed what Hom had said.

’This should be a pretty good treasure. Why wasn’t it taken along with everything else?’

"The Alataku People of the past bred large numbers of Gray Demon Whales. They seemed to have a special method to increase the probability of Gray Demon Whales being born. Bone fragments like this, rich in Undead Energy, were just a type of food the Alataku People fed to their other Soul Beasts," Hom transmitted to Han Ning mentally.

Han Ning grunted in understanding and continued to look through the bone boxes on the floor.

There were a few grayish-white stones, some Soul Beast bones, and treated animal hides. Besides these death-related items, there were also some clothes woven from special grasses.

"These things aren’t particularly valuable. I guess the Alataku People didn’t think much of them when they left, so they just casually discarded them here."

"They must have been loaded."

Han Ning muttered, picking up a bone fragment inscribed with some characters and blinking.

In an instant, the abstract, twisted characters were all translated into the Xia Country Language on his panel.

However, this translation function wasn’t free; it required a certain amount of Energy to use.

The bone fragment in his hand had a few hundred characters on it, and translating it cost him several hundred points of Energy.

There was a time when he had to be on edge just to gather a little bit of Energy, but now, he was spending one point to translate a single character.

"Night Nether Calendar, Year 4321, Day 214. The research has come to a temporary halt. The compatibility of the Spiritual Remains is still not high. What exactly went wrong..."

"...Day 215. This continent is growing more and more barren. If this continues, the Chief’s experiment will probably fail again."
