Chapter 486: Chapter 485 Did My Best
"Okay, I’ll go and make arrangements, you talk to your dad." Liu Zheng glanced at Yang Ruoxi and then went to find the attending physician to inquire about the situation.
The attending physician told Liu Zheng that he had done his best, but the patient was beyond help.
Liu Zheng was very upset, but he still forced a smile and said, "Thank you," before turning around to go back to Yang Ruoxi.
Liu Qian sat by the bed, silently shedding tears.
"Ruo Xi, don’t be too sad," Liu Zheng consoled, "Although Uncle has left us, he will surely bless you, and he will leave us quite an inheritance."
Upon hearing this, Yang Ruoxi felt even worse and couldn’t help but lean on the bedside and burst into loud sobs.
"Stop crying," Liu Qian patted Yang Ruoxi’s shoulder, "I’ll be by your side no matter what difficulties we face, do you understand?"
Yang Ruoxi nodded while crying, then leaned into Liu Qian’s embrace, crying like a child, very heartbroken.
Liu Qian stayed with Yang Ruoxi until the next day when she was finally sent away by Yang Ruoxi.
"Ruo Xi, I’ll come to see you again tomorrow," Liu Qian reluctantly said, "I know you’re in the most pain right now, but I hope I can bring you happiness. Our days as a united family have just begun."
Yang Ruoxi nodded with tears in her eyes.
Liu Qian left reluctantly, paused at the door, took a deep breath, "Ruo Xi, I love you, I love you!" then she turned and left.
That night, Yang Ruoxi couldn’t sleep at all.
The next day, Liu Qian appeared again in Yang Ruoxi’s hospital room.
Yang Ruoxi had already freshened up and was doing her makeup at the dressing table. Seeing Liu Qian enter, she quickly finished her makeup and stood up.
"Qian Sister, you didn’t sleep last night, did you? You look so haggard."
Liu Qian shook her head as she looked at Yang Ruoxi, then sat next to the bedside table.
"I’m fine, don’t worry about me," Liu Qian comforted Yang Ruoxi, "But you, you look pale and your eyes are swollen like walnuts. You need to take good care of your health. Don’t worry too much about your mom."
"Mm-hmm," Yang Ruoxi nodded.
Liu Qian felt very sad seeing Yang Ruoxi like this.
"I called your mom this morning, and she said she would arrive soon. You need to be prepared," Liu Qian said, "Do you know, after your mother divorced your father, she passed away."
"I know," Yang Ruoxi’s voice trembled slightly.
"So we dare not let her know about your father’s death, but I’m afraid we can’t keep it secret for much longer. I hope you can hold on."
"I know," Yang Ruoxi nodded again.
Liu Qian was deeply grieved to see Yang Ruoxi barely holding herself together.
She wished to see Yang Ruoxi happy, but reality is reality.
If Yang Ruoxi learned about her father’s death, she would surely be devastated.
Moreover, Yang Ruoxi’s current mental state was utterly unsuited to bear such a blow.
Liu Qian couldn’t help but resent Liu Zhen, if it hadn’t been for his embezzlement and corruption, her father wouldn’t have ended up on this path.
If her father could have lived out his years in peace, this poor girl wouldn’t have to suffer so much. Thinking this, Liu Qian felt even more remorseful towards Yang Ruoxi.
"Qian Sister, I know what you want to say, but please don’t," Yang Ruoxi spoke, "I don’t want to hear anything about my dad’s death, I just want to let him leave peacefully."
"I understand, I’m sorry, I misspoke," Liu Qian hurriedly apologized.
After Liu Qian left, Yang Ruoxi sat in the room for a long time before slowly getting up to visit her mother in the hospital, only to realize her phone was ringing.
Yang Ruoxi picked up the phone, saw an unfamiliar number, and pressed the answer button to her ear.
"Hello, may I ask who’s calling?"
The voice of Lin Jiaxin came from the phone.
"This is Lin Jiaxin. You’re Yang Ruoxi, right?" Lin Jiaxin asked.
"Oh, yes, that’s me. May I ask what this is about?" Yang Ruoxi said politely.
"Yang Ruoxi, do you remember your adoptive parents? They’re in the hospital now. Would you like to come see them?" Lin Jiaxin said, "Of course, if you’re not able to come now, I can help you arrange a visit. What do you think?"
Yang Ruoxi, taken aback, had not expected Lin Jiaxin to be so kind as to offer help.
"Can I come and see them?" Yang Ruoxi asked.
"Of course, I’m outside the hospital now. Come out," Lin Jiaxin said before hanging up.
Yang Ruoxi looked at the phone, hesitated for a moment, but decided to change clothes and go out to see what was going on.
Upon stepping out of the ward, Yang Ruo Xi noticed a red Audi parked nearby, with Lin Jia Xin standing beside the car.
Lin Jia Xin approached upon seeing Yang Ruo Xi and immediately opened the rear car door.
"Miss Yang Ruo Xi, can you get into the car?" Lin Jia Xin asked politely, "If not, I can take you to the nearby bus station."
Yang Ruo Xi hesitated for a moment but eventually agreed.
Once in the car, Yang Ruo Xi gave her address, and then Lin Jia Xin drove toward the downtown hospital.
"Which hospital are my parents staying at?" Yang Ruo Xi asked.
"The Huaxia Medical University Affiliated Hospital in the city center," Lin Jia Xin replied.
"Hmm," Yang Ruo Xi nodded, yet her gaze remained fixed outside the window.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Lin Jia Xin led Yang Ruo Xi into the inpatient department.
"You rest for a while; I’ll call a nurse to come and check on you later," Lin Jia Xin said.
"Okay," Yang Ruo Xi nodded.
After Lin Jia Xin left, Yang Ruo Xi lay on the hospital bed with her mind in utter disarray, as myriad possibilities flashed through her mind.
An idea flashed into Yang Ruo Xi’s head.
Could it be that there was some hidden truth behind her parents’ deaths?
If so, was there really another reason for her mother’s demise?
Yang Ruo Xi was somewhat confused.
She lay in bed, recalling the moments she had shared with her father ever since she had known him.
Since elementary school, she often worked at her father’s company, and during that time, she spent every day with him, sharing a very close relationship. Her father’s company dealt in finance, and he was very skilled in managing financial transactions, so the business was doing exceptionally well, making a lot of money. Her academic results were improving, but her father’s health seemed to be getting worse...
As Yang Ruo Xi pondered, tears suddenly streamed down her face. She remembered how her father’s health had deteriorated ever since she started working at his company. At that time, Yang Ruo Xi wanted to find the perpetrator, but her father stopped her and told her he didn’t want her to know.
Was it possible that her father lied to her all along just to keep her from worrying?
But why would he do that? What reason could her father have for doing such a thing?
Yang Ruo Xi was utterly puzzled.
Without realizing it, Yang Ruo Xi fell asleep on the bed.
When the nurse came in for a check-up and to administer an IV drip, Yang Ruo Xi woke up.
"Nurse, how is my condition?" Yang Ruo Xi opened her eyes and asked the nurse standing in front of her.
"Miss Yang, your recovery is going very well," the nurse said with a smile.
"That’s great," Yang Ruo Xi breathed a sigh of relief.
Yang Ruo Xi stayed in the hospital for several days.
A few days later, she was discharged.
"Thank you, nurse, and sorry to trouble you with taking me home," Yang Ruo Xi said gratefully to Lin Jia Xin standing before her.
"Don’t mention it," Lin Jia Xin replied with a gentle smile, "It’s on my way anyway."
"I’m already better, there’s no need for you to drive me," Yang Ruo Xi said, "Goodbye, Jia Xin!"
Yang Ruo Xi got out of the car, watched Lin Jia Xin drive away, then turned and went upstairs to her own home.
Back home, her mother was lying on the sofa watching TV. Yang Ruo Xi called out, "Mom."
Her mother looked up and, realizing it was her daughter who had returned, immediately said with a smile, "Ruo Xi, you’re finally back!"
"Mom, why do you look so pale?" Yang Ruo Xi asked.
"I’m fine," her mother replied, "I’ve just been a bit tired lately."
"Then you should rest early," Yang Ruo Xi advised, then turned to go upstairs.
Yang Ruo Xi returned to her room and lay on the bed, but she tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.
Her mind was a complete mess, not knowing whom to believe or trust.
Over the past few days, Lin Jia Xin had been very friendly toward her, but there was always something strange that Yang Ruo Xi felt in her heart.
Why had Lin Jia Xin suddenly become so nice to her? Could it really be just because her status had changed?
