Chapter 42: Chapter 42: The Pleasure of Offending People
What she usually heard were compliments like, "Secretary Cai, you’re getting more and more beautiful!"
Or people would just call her, "Hey, gorgeous!"
She loved hearing things like that, but what she hated most was being called Assistant Cai. She would say not to use her job title because it sounded so formal, but if you called her President Cai, she would never ask you to drop the title.
But today, someone had actually called her Old Cai. How could she possibly stand for that?
Yang Hui gestured for the young supervisor beside him to leave. The "Old Cai" comment made her chuckle inwardly, and much of her previous hurt and grievance vanished in an instant.
She gave Yang Hui a slight smile by way of greeting and headed back.
Cai Miao was furious, but she couldn’t use this as a reason to lash out at Yang Hui. It had nothing to do with work.
She took a deep breath and said with a stony expression, "It’s your first day and you’re already running off somewhere. I think the Operations Department’s policy on leaving the office needs to be revised. Otherwise, people are just going to slack off!"
Yang Hui wasn’t the least bit angry. In fact, the more annoyed she got, the happier he became. It meant he was one step closer to success!
"In that case, Old Cai, you should hurry up and take over President Shan’s seat. Then you can change the Operations Department’s rules!"
’Old Cai again, and he was even mocking her. Is he making fun of my low rank?’
Cai Miao’s rank wasn’t actually high, no different from the assistants in other departments. She just threw her weight around because she was Li Yang’s assistant, and since Li Yang did indeed protect her, she got used to bossing everyone around. People let her have her way, which only spoiled her rotten.
"Hmph! I don’t give a damn about a director’s position. But I will suggest to the boss that he revise your rules and regulations!"
Yang Hui just smiled and ignored her. ’Go ahead and change them. I’ll still do as I please. If you’ve got a problem with me, then fire me!’
"Take this approval form back. I don’t approve!"
She tossed the approval form Zhu Jing had drafted regarding the 1.2 million payment recovery at him like it was garbage.
He sneered, picking it up for a look. All the preceding departments had already signed off on it. The only thing missing was Li Yang’s final approval signature.
"I don’t see a spot for your signature on this form. As I recall, ’General Manager’s Assistant’ isn’t listed as one of the required co-signing departments!"
Cai Miao realized this newcomer was incredibly bold. To provoke her time and time again... ’Does he have a death wish?!’
He was mocking her for not having the authority to sign it, so what right did she have to say no!
And she truly couldn’t refute what Yang Hui said. The final decision was up to Li Yang. Who the hell was she, a mere assistant, to say otherwise? It was just that she’d always gotten away with it. No one ever voiced an opinion; instead, they would suck up to her, hoping she’d let their documents pass and maybe even put in a good word when she took them to Li Yang for his signature.
"When I say no, I mean no! Take it back!"
Her expression was severe, her tone harsh and menacing.
"I’ll give you two choices. One, you take it to President Li. If he disapproves, the Operations Department will accept the penalty. If he approves, we proceed as outlined in the form.
Two, if you don’t take it, I’ll take it myself. Time is running out, and I have none to waste arguing with you!"
Yang Hui didn’t back down an inch. Cai Miao suddenly found this newcomer to be quite a handful. ’What if he really takes it to President Li? What if President Li blames me for overstepping my authority?’
She instantly lost some of her confidence. ’Fine,’ she thought, ’I’ll take it. But I’ll make sure it gets shot down. We’ll see about this. You really think I can’t crush you here at Futong Commerce?’
She snatched the form from Yang Hui and said coldly, "I’ll take it to President Li. Let’s hope your luck holds out."
Yang Hui smiled. "My luck is always good."
’If Li Yang doesn’t approve this plan, he must have lost his mind!’
The only reason Cai Miao disagreed was because she, a mere assistant, didn’t know a damn thing. Besides using her boss’s name to throw her weight around, she was completely clueless about the actual business.
For a boss, financial security is paramount. What kind of idiot would risk losing 1.2 million just to save 8,000 yuan? No boss would be that stupid.
"One more thing. In the future, don’t intercept my approval forms. Whether the boss agrees or not is his decision to make. You don’t have the authority to act on your own. If you don’t understand the responsibilities of an assistant, you can go look it up online!"
With that, he turned and walked away, ignoring Cai Miao, who was trembling with fury.
’That’s right, get pissed. Go run to Li Yang and bad-mouth me all you want!’
When he returned to his desk, a worried Zhu Jing came over. "Boss, are you okay?"
"What could possibly happen?"
"So what’s going to happen with the form?"
"We’ll wait for President Li’s approval. I don’t think it’ll be a problem."
"What? Boss, how did you manage her? Everyone in the company knows how difficult she is!"
"Zhu Jing, my dear, one must learn to persuade people with reason."
Zhu Jing sat down curiously, resting her chin in her hands with a look of thirsty curiosity. "Teach me, Boss!"
"I just told her to know her place. An assistant should do an assistant’s job. If she wants to play general manager, she can do that in her dreams. During work hours, she needs to come back to reality."
’That’s it?’ Zhu Jing had thought her new boss possessed some kind of silver tongue.
"Boss, you’ve got to be kidding me. Won’t that just piss her off completely?"
"’Dare to vie with demons for supremacy; refuse to yield an inch to tyrants.’ As long as we’re in the right, we must hold our ground. Don’t be afraid of the little minions!
From now on, if anyone dares to bully our team, you tell me. I’ll be the one to go argue our case!"
Zhu Jing was incredibly moved. ’Our new boss is so great!’
What she didn’t know was that Yang Hui was actually thinking, ’This is a great shortcut to leaving the company. What could be more satisfying than pissing off every single person you’re not supposed to cross?’
Zhu Jing returned to her desk, which was next to Han Ya’s. Han Ya turned to her. "So, is it settled?"
Zhu Jing nodded. "Yeah, the boss is really backing me up!"
"Well then, you can’t back up!"
"Of course not. With the boss supporting me so forcefully from behind, how could I possibly back up?"
Han Ya burst out laughing. "That reminds me of a saying!"
"If someone is ’supporting’ you from behind, you must never back up... or you’ll get in deeper and deeper!"
Zhu Jing was confused at first, but when she saw Han Ya’s sly grin, she instantly understood the double meaning. She slapped her playfully. "You pervert!"
"Zhu Jing!"
Yang Hui called out to her.
Han Ya quickly chimed in, "Go on, hurry. The boss is going to ’support’ you again!"
Zhu Jing tried to pinch her, but Han Ya dodged away. Blushing, Zhu Jing walked over to Yang Hui. Staring at his handsome face and charming, smiling eyes, her mind couldn’t help but conjure up all sorts of images based on Han Ya’s words.
"I just remembered something," he said. "Even if the boss approves the form, there are still other steps, right? It’s not just our internal process. The other party is paying 1.2 million; they’re not going to just transfer the money without going through their own procedures."
Zhu Jing nodded. "Our finance department needs to issue a VAT invoice. Once the other party receives it, they’ll start their payment process. But they typically need the invoice before the 20th of the month to complete their process and make the payment by the 25th."
According to what Zhu Jing said, Yida Department Store’s process takes five days. That meant it was definitely too late. Just as he was mulling this over, a WeChat notification popped up.
