Chapter 41: Chapter 41: A Shortcut to Unemployment

Zhu Jing looked left and right, then leaned a little closer to Yang Hui.

The scent of her perfume, mixed with her natural fragrance, was very pleasant.

"Boss, the boss’s assistant is looking for you. You need to tread carefully!"

Only then did he realize this was the trouble she’d mentioned. "You know why she’s looking for me?"

Zhu Jing nodded and recounted what Cai Miao had said that morning when she went to get the document signed.

’An assistant can be that arrogant?’

’Seriously, does this woman even use her brain? Does she think everyone is a bad guy?’

’Was there a problem with the approval request Zhu Jing took over?’

’First, get the 1.2 million payment back. Then, continue to reconcile the 8,000 yuan discrepancy. If the mall didn’t over-deduct, then the bill is fine.’

’If the mall did over-deduct, the over-deducted 8,000 yuan in payment could be recovered next month.’

’Isn’t that better than leaving the entire 1.2 million payment with the mall for another month?’

But how did Cai Miao’s train of thought lead her to that conclusion?

She’d said, "No! According to company policy, all payments must be collected before the end of the month. Otherwise, there will be penalties."

And she had characterized Zhu Jing and Yang Hui as being afraid of penalties, and therefore challenging company rules and regulations.

By Cai Miao’s logic, the operations department might as well just lie flat and not chase any payments, since they were going to be punished anyway.

He thought back to the phone call at noon—her tone, so haughty and imperious, with an air of self-righteousness as if she were justice itself!

He shook his head, remembering he still had to go see her.

"Boss, there are a few people in this company you can’t afford to offend, and she’s one of them!"

Yang Hui’s interest was suddenly piqued. "And what happens if I do offend them?"

Zhu Jing said anxiously, "If you offend her, it’ll be very difficult to stay at this company. The last operations manager got into an argument with her and was fired by the boss!"

His eyes lit up. ’Something that good exists?’

’Isn’t this a new path to unemployment?’

"Tell me, who else can’t I afford to offend?"

’The new boss is pretty savvy,’ Zhu Jing thought. ’He knows how to fit in and when to keep his head down!’

"The most difficult one is the boss’s assistant, Cai Miao. Since many requests that need the boss’s signature have to go through her, if you offend her, she’ll make things difficult for you.

Next is Sister Li from the finance department. She’s the boss’s biological niece, a royal relative you can’t afford to offend.

Finally, there’s the Operations Manager for the ’Erke’ brand, Zhang Li. He’s the boss’s nephew, and even President Shan has to give him some leeway."

That’s how private enterprises are. It’s like a family affair; anyone who could be brought in, was. It wasn’t like the old Ruijing Commerce, which was clean, and everyone was more or less on the same level.

She was kind enough to explain the situation to Yang Hui, warning him not to provoke these people, but she had no idea that her new boss was actually thinking about how to use them to get himself fired.

According to the system’s unemployment value settlement rules:

If he resigned on his own, it would only take effect after three months.

But if he were laid off by the company, it could be at any time.

And to get laid off, it was either due to poor performance, violating regulations, or even abusing power for personal gain.

He wouldn’t do either of those. The former was humiliating—being called incompetent would ruin his future prospects. The latter would damage his reputation and could even be illegal, something he definitely wouldn’t do.

He originally thought that at Futong Commerce, his only path to getting the company to lay him off was through an "inappropriate workplace relationship," but now another path had opened up.

’Can’t be provoked, huh? Well, *I’m* the one who specializes in solving unsolvable problems!’

"Alright, I get it. I’m going up to see the noob!"

Noob? Zhu Jing didn’t get it at first. It wasn’t until after Yang Hui had left that she realized he was making a pun on Cai Miao’s name!

She let out a chuckle. ’The new boss is so naughty, making fun of Assistant Cai like that. Nobody else would dare!’

Cai Miao’s work area was just outside Li Yang’s office. Yang Hui hadn’t met Li Yang since joining the company, and his office door was currently closed.

When he reached Cai Miao’s desk, he found her berating someone.

Standing opposite her was a young woman, probably about his own age, who was quite pretty—on par with Zhu Jing.

Her hair was tied in a low ponytail, with a few loose strands falling naturally across her forehead, adding a touch of casual gentleness without obscuring her vision.

As for Cai Miao, she was slightly chubby, with decent looks and fair skin. With some makeup, she could be considered somewhat attractive.

Seeing Yang Hui approach, she asked for confirmation, "You must be the newcomer, Xiaoyang, right?"

’Xiaoyang again,’ he thought. ’That’s usually how you’d address a subordinate in a company.’

’We don’t even know each other, and I’m a department manager. An assistant calling me that... where are your manners?’

But since there was someone else next to her, Yang Hui just nodded without saying anything.

"Wait a moment. I’ll get to you right after this!"

With that, she turned back to the young woman before her and said, "This approval request is no good. Take it back and rewrite it!"

The young woman seemed exasperated. Watching from the side, Yang Hui could see tears welling up in her eyes.

"Secretary Cai, I’ve already revised this request 28 times! Every time, you find a new issue. Either the punctuation is wrong, or the wording needs to be changed. A simple official letter is taking this long; it’s going to cause delays!"

"You’ve revised it 28 times, and you have the nerve to complain? Why don’t you look for your own mistakes? I’m busy too! I’m not your language arts teacher, here to correct your essays!

Besides, what do you mean ’a simple official letter is taking this long’? When an official letter goes out, it represents the company’s image! Don’t we, as a major company, care about our reputation? Look at this! Is the content you wrote even presentable?"

"But every time I confirm with you that there are no more problems, you find something new to change when I bring it back. When will this end? And about the wording—what you think is more appropriate, the other party might not even read! They just need the matter explained clearly!"

BANG!

Yang Hui was wondering what they were arguing about. ’An official letter can only have so many words. Who makes someone revise it 28 times? What the fuck kind of person does that?’

’If you think it affects the company’s image, and there’s a problem, can’t you just point it all out at once?’

’But you don’t. You just tell her to change it herself. How is anyone supposed to know what you want?’

’Just like the young woman said, an official letter is just about making things clear. The wording just needs to be professional. What Secretary Cai likes, the client might not. Besides, who has the time to nitpick every single word with you?’

’All they want is for your company to show its stance and stamp the document!’

Cai Miao slammed her hand heavily on the table, interrupting Yang Hui’s train of thought!

"Get back and revise it! Enough talk! If you can do the job, do it. If you can’t, then get lost! The company isn’t short on supervisors like you!"

’Oh? She’s a supervisor too?’ he mused. ’I wonder which brand she’s with.’

The young woman was trembling with anger. Yang Hui couldn’t stand to watch anymore. He stood up and said, "Old Cai, how much longer are you going to be?"

At the words "Old Cai," Cai Miao froze for a second, then realized he was probably talking to her.

She pointed at herself in disbelief. "Are you talking to me?"

Yang Hui nodded.

"You’re the only one here with the surname Cai, and you’re the older one. Who else would I be talking to?"

Cai Miao’s face instantly became like a sheet of A4 paper that had been crumpled up and then forcefully ironed flat, the downward curve of her lips looking as if it had been yanked into place.

She glared at Yang Hui, grinding her teeth, her eyes overflowing with killing intent!
