The Wicked God let out a low growl and played another card from his hand.
"Quick-Play Spell—Quick Summon!
In addition to your regular normal summon, you can normal summon a monster from your hand!" (Anime card)
Jaden’s eyes widened. "Damn! A Quick-Play Spell, and we’re still in the Battle Phase!"
Kaiba muttered, "You’re summoning the god during the Battle Phase?"
The next moment, the Wicked God raised his illusory arm high.
"I tribute ’Darklord Superbia’, ’Darklord Ixchel’, and ’Darklord Edeh Arae’ to Tribute Summon!"
A rift tore open in the pitch-black field, a black fissure overhead. The crushing pressure made one feel as if every joint in their body was crying out in agony; the force seemed intent on grinding bones to dust.
The Wicked God glanced over his shoulder and said indifferently, "Then, today, you’ll be the first to go."
A giant phantom shadow flashed through the darkness and snorted, "Looks like you guys won’t even get a chance to appear."
The Wicked God raised his voice:
"Embodiment of Ultimate Terror, the God of Terror—
—The Wicked Dreadroot!!!"
A demonic horn pierced the veil of reality. A demon giant, covered in chilling bones, descended with an overwhelming aura of darkness, instilling the purest terror deep within everyone’s hearts.

Kaiba sneered, "So the stray dog ran here to struggle for survival?"
The newly-summoned Dreadroot was infuriated by these words, slowly turning and glaring at Kaiba.
"Don’t get cocky, Seto Kaiba," Dreadroot growled. "You’re next."
Kaiba chuckled, "I’m looking forward to it. I just hope you get the chance."
He shot a glance at Kira.
If it’s that guy, even facing a god shouldn’t make a difference.
Thinking this, Kaiba narrowed his eyes.
Don’t let me down.
Dreadroot declared, "This kind of guy? I could crush him in seconds!"
The god’s embodiment waved a hand, "Battle continues. Since Dreadroot was summoned during the Battle Phase, it can still attack.
Attack ’Silent Magician LV8’ with ’The Wicked Dreadroot’!"
He paused, eyes narrowing.
"Furthermore, as long as Dreadroot is on the field, the ATK and DEF of all other monsters are halved!"
A wave of terror crashed down on Silent Magician, whose face turned ashen, fingers clutching her staff to barely remain standing—but her magical power was drastically weakened.

"Does this Wicked God really have such a terrifying ability?" Jaden exclaimed.
Gods already have strong effect resistance. If you want to beat this Wicked God in battle, you’d need a monster with at least 8000 ATK.
An 8000 ATK monster... not impossible, actually.
Jaden tilted his head, considering: with his various decks—Neos, Elemental Heroes, even Evil Heroes now—summoning a monster with 8000 ATK really wasn’t out of the question.
Back when he first entered the academy, seeing a 4000 ATK monster would make him shout, "Obelisk-level power!" But now, as he stood higher, his perspective had changed.
But if this attack goes through, it’ll be a huge blow for Kira.
"...Then I discard ’Kuriboh’ from my hand," Kira said. "I reduce the battle damage to 0."
Dreadroot’s fist came crashing down, shattering Silent Magician’s defensive barrier and engulfing her in darkness. The destructive cyclone swept toward Kira, but was blocked by the sudden appearance of Kuriboh.
"Tch, barely blocked the damage," Wicked God said. "But the monster’s still destroyed by battle."
No damage was inflicted, but Silent Magician LV8 was destroyed and left the field.
"Well, ending it too quickly wouldn’t be fun," the Wicked God shrugged. "Letting you live two more turns won’t matter, will it?"
Letting him live two more turns?
Kaiba sneered inwardly.
Such arrogance.
We’ll see if you even last until the next turn—by then, you’ll regret this.
The Wicked God said, "Activate Spell Card ’Card of Heaven and Earth’.
On a turn you perform a Tribute Summon, draw two cards from the deck. If you can set any, you must set at least one." (Anime card)
He drew two cards.
"Then I set one card and end my turn."
"My turn. Draw."
Kira calmly revealed a card in his hand.
"Activate Spell Card ’Pot of Greed’. Draw two cards from the deck."
"Next, I activate the Equip Spell ’Premature Burial’. Pay 800 LP to revive a monster from the graveyard in Attack Position."

"Revive ’Royal Magical Library’ from the graveyard."

The Wicked God frowned. "You discarded it with Card Destruction, didn’t you?"
As expected, Card Destruction is a double-edged sword. You can cycle your hand and fill your graveyard, but it benefits your opponent too.
Kira smiled, "Yes, and Card Destruction helped me load more than just that into the graveyard."
He drew another card.
"Now activate Spell Card ’Reinforcement of the Army’. Add one Level 4 or lower Warrior-Type monster from your deck to your hand. I add this card..."
A card slid from Kira’s deck.
"Add ’Gearfried the Iron Knight’ to my hand."
Kaiba’s eyebrow twitched.
Huh?
A noob’s card?
Kaiba might mock Joey’s cards, but after many duels, he had a certain respect for him. Seeing an old friend’s card gave him a pang of nostalgia.
"At this moment, Royal Magical Library’s effect activates," Kira said. "Each time a Spell Card is activated, place a Spell Counter on Library."
"Next is Spell Card ’Card of Burial Magic’. Banish ’Reinforcement of the Army’, ’Double Summon’, and ’Pot of Greed’ from the graveyard to draw two cards."
"And Royal Magical Library now has two Spell Counters."
"Now, normal summon ’Gearfried the Iron Knight’."
The classic Gearfried, clad in jet-black iron armor: an old veteran, but still a dashing knight.

(The real card was changed to a Quick-Play Spell; in the anime, it’s a Normal Spell.)
"Since I activated a Spell, Royal Magical Library gets another counter. That makes three counters now.
And the Equip Spell I’m retrieving from the graveyard is..."
Kira took the card that popped out of the graveyard.
"Equip Spell—Butterfly Dagger – Elma!"
