Chapter 149: Chapter 148 : Weight Of Thoughts
The balcony air was still cool and gentle when Haruto and Yor finally let go of each other. Yor’s naked body pressed against his for the last time before she picked up her yukata and slipped it back on. The soft fabric settled over her curves like a warm embrace. She gave him one last soft kiss on the cheek before heading downstairs.
Haruto stood alone on the balcony for a few seconds, breathing deeply, feeling the last traces of tension slowly leaving his body. He went inside his room, closed the door, and changed into his simple home clothes — a loose white t-shirt and dark pants. The fabric felt comforting against his skin after the long, naked day.
Half an hour later, he heard the familiar sound of the front door sliding open. Grandfather was home.
Haruto went downstairs. The dining table was already set with Yor’s cooking — a simple but delicious meal of miso soup, grilled fish, pickled vegetables, and warm rice. The house smelled of home-cooked food and the faint floral scent that always clung to Yor.
Grandfather was tired but happy to see them. He sat at the head of the table and looked at the two of them with kind eyes.
"You’re both looking good," he said warmly. "Yor cooked everything today? Thank you. Great Great."
Yor smiled softly and poured tea for all three of them.
"I just wanted to help," she replied gently. "Haruto came home safely. That’s all I needed."
Dinner was quiet and peaceful. The three of them ate together like any normal evening. Yor’s cooking was delicious — flavorful, warm, and full of love. Grandfather praised her taste, and Yor blushed shyly. Haruto ate quietly, watching them, feeling strangely comforted by their presence.
When they finished, Grandfather stood up and said good night, going to his room early as he always did.
Yor and Haruto cleaned the table together. The house was now quiet and empty, just the two of them again.
Yor wiped her hands on a small cloth and looked at Haruto with soft, trusting eyes.

"Everything is clean now," she said gently. "Come. Let’s go to my room. I want to hold you until you sleep."
Haruto nodded and followed her upstairs, the weight of the day slowly lifting as they walked hand in hand.
The night was finally theirs.
The night had grown deeper and more peaceful. The full moon hung high in the sky, bathing the small backyard garden in soft, silvery light. The air was cool and still, carrying the faint scent of blooming night flowers and the distant sound of the river. Crickets chirped softly around the low wooden fence, and the old wooden house stood quietly behind them, its windows dark except for the faint glow of a lantern in the genkan.
Haruto sat on a simple wooden chair on the balcony, the soft cushions cool against his back. He wore only a loose white t-shirt and dark pants, the fabric comfortable after his long day. His mind was still heavy, but he tried to relax. He stared at the moon and the gentle light reflecting on the garden stones.
Minutes later, Yor appeared from the sliding door. She wore the same light pink yukata from earlier, but now it was tied loosely at her waist. In her hands, she carried a small tray with snacks and cold drinks — fresh strawberries, yogurt, some rice crackers, and two chilled bottles of barley tea.
She smiled softly and walked over to him.
"I made these," she said gently. "You looked tired earlier. I thought you needed something light."
Haruto accepted the tray with a small smile. "Thank you, Yor. You’re always taking care of me."
They sat side by side on the wooden bench. The balcony felt private and intimate under the moonlight. The garden stretched out behind them, small trees and stone lanterns glowing softly.
Yor placed the tray on the low table between them and opened a bottle of barley tea. She poured it into two glasses and handed one to Haruto.
They began talking quietly, the conversation flowing easily in the peaceful night.
"I’m an illustrator," Yor said softly, taking a small sip of tea. "I draw Light Novel covers and characters. It’s my job sometimes. I like making the heroines look beautiful and the heroes feel cool. I just draw their faces and outfits. It’s not a big salary, but I like it."
Haruto listened carefully, nodding.
He amazed after hearing that. And said, "I Didn’t know. I want to see your Illustrations. It will be also gorgeous like you."
Yor smiled, her cheeks turning pink from the small compliment.
"Thank you. But I’m still not sure about my future. Sometimes I feel like I should do something bigger. Something that really matters."
Haruto fell quiet for a long moment. He looked at the moon, then at the garden, then at Yor’s face.
Yor asked Haruto,"What you want to do in future?"

"I don’t know what I want to do," he admitted honestly, his voice low. "I want to be rich one day... but I’ve never taken a real step to make it happen. I just dream about it. I keep saying I’ll start something big, but I never do. I need to take my life more seriously. I need to stop running from everything."
Yor listened without interrupting. She placed her glass on the table and turned toward him completely. Her eyes were soft but filled with quiet concern.
"You’re already trying," she said gently. "You’re trying to take responsibility."
Haruto shook his head slightly.
"No... it’s not enough. I feel like I’m still a child playing house with responsibilities. I need to grow up. I need to become someone who can actually protect and provide."
The night air was cool, but neither of them felt the chill. The full moon shone down on them, and the soft sounds of crickets and the distant river created a peaceful backdrop to their conversation.
Yor leaned a little closer, her shoulder brushing against his.
"You’re already doing more than most people do," she whispered. "You’re not alone in this."
Haruto looked at her and felt a strange warmth in his chest. For a moment, the weight of his future felt a little lighter.
But underneath the softness, he could still feel the shadow of the day’s events lingering in his mind — the abandoned Love Hotel, Reina, Selena, the knife, the fear.
He didn’t tell her everything.
He didn’t want to scare her.
But the questions remained.
How would he really protect her?
How would he really become the man he wanted to be?
And how deep was the darkness waiting for him in the mountains?
The balcony felt quiet and intimate, the full moon watching silently above them as Yor and Haruto sat close together, sharing the same uncertain future under the stars.
The garden was quiet under the full moon, the only sounds being the soft rustle of the night breeze through the small garden and the distant murmur of the river. Haruto and Yor sat close together on the wooden bench, the cool air carrying the faint scent of wildflowers and the warmth of their bodies. The barley tea was long finished, but neither of them had moved to clear the empty glasses.
Yor looked at him gently, her eyes full of quiet understanding. She didn’t push. She didn’t ask questions. She simply listened as Haruto spoke, the words coming out in a soft, honest stream.
"I’ve been thinking about what you said earlier," he began quietly. "About temporary happiness versus the full life. Watching porn, masturbating, having sex... those things give a kind of quick relief. But it’s temporary. It fades. And when it fades, it leaves a deeper emptiness behind. Even if I do it right now... it feels like I’m trying to run from something. I’m trying to relax, not to be happy."

He took a slow breath, his voice becoming more serious.
"I can’t make my girls happy if I have nothing. I can’t have sex without guilt if I have nothing. Even if I fuck someone right now, it will just become depressed sex — something I do to forget, not something I do to enjoy. That’s not real happiness. That’s just escape."
Haruto looked out at the dark garden, the full moon casting soft shadows on the stone lanterns.
"To make myself happy and relaxed," he continued softly, "to make my girls happy and relaxed... I have to move forward. I have to stand on my own feet. I can’t keep running from my responsibilities. I can’t keep dreaming of being rich without taking a real step. I need to do something real. Something that matters. Something that grows with me."
He finally looked back at Yor, his eyes steady but filled with quiet determination.
"I know it sounds scary. But I think that’s the only way. Otherwise... I’ll just keep carrying this weight forever. And I don’t want to do that to you. I don’t want to do that to any of us."
Yor listened in complete silence. Her hands rested calmly in her lap, but her eyes were calm and steady. She didn’t gasp. She didn’t comfort him with empty words. She simply absorbed every sentence, her expression softening as she processed the depth of what he was saying.
When he finished, she was quiet for a long moment. Then she reached out and placed her hand gently on his.
"I believe in you," she whispered softly. "I know you’re trying. I know you’re scared. But I also know you’re already stronger than you think."
Haruto looked at her, feeling the warmth of her hand against his.
The night air was cool, the stars were bright, and the full moon watched silently above them as two people sat together— one still carrying the weight of his past, the other quietly holding his hand and believing in his future.
The real work was only just beginning.
