Chapter 468: Chapter 468: Adina 21
The she-wolf sniffed the air, and the two Magic Wolves began to follow the scent of the Undead. The invisibility cloak concealed Tan You’s aura well, but the aura of the Undead was impossible to hide.
The two Magic Wolves just kept following the three-headed hellhound, never getting close, just trailing it from a distance.
Tan You naturally saw this. She lowered her gaze and smiled. "Quite sharp."
The Beauty System piped up eagerly, "Host, are you going to keep the wolves?"
Tan You was indeed tempted, but after some thought, she shook her head. "Forget it. We’ll leave it to fate. Magic Beasts are proud creatures. You can’t force something like this."
Her focus right now was on training, and keeping pets was definitely not in her plans. Besides, she hadn’t saved them to make them her tamed beasts. Tan You simply couldn’t bear it.
If she hadn’t intervened, the Magic Wolf couple would have certainly died, especially with the she-wolf being so heavily pregnant. If for no other reason than the small life inside, Tan You felt she couldn’t just stand by and do nothing.
With a mount, Tan You arrived at the Mage Tower Sean had marked by the next evening. But looking at the dilapidated Mage Tower before her, Tan You was a little confused. "Aren’t Mage Towers supposed to vanish when their Mage dies? Why is this one still standing?"
"And the concentration of magical elements here is so high. Training here, wouldn’t my progress be twice as fast?" As she mused, Tan You took a gray stone out of her ring.
As if drawn by some force, the moment Tan You took out the stone, it floated into mid-air. Soon, a gray light shone from the dilapidated Mage Tower, and its main gate slowly swung open.
Tan You stood before the gate for a long time before finally urging the three-headed hellhound into the Mage Tower. ’Well, I’m already here,’ she thought. ’I might as well have a look before deciding anything. Everyone gets curious, right?’
After the Undead hellhound entered the Mage Tower, the gate closed softly behind it. The two Magic Wolves that had been following watched from a distance for a good while before finally lying down near the Mage Tower’s gate.
After entering the Mage Tower, Tan You quickly explored the interior. The Mage Tower wasn’t large, only about two stories high. Naturally, the inside was also laid out over two floors. The first floor was clearly a place for training, while the second floor seemed to be living quarters?
Tan You looked around the second floor and then returned to the first. The three-headed hellhound was lounging by the fireplace, its tail swaying back and forth, though each wag made a CLACK CLACK sound.
Tan You glanced at it, then went over and lit the fireplace after all. Soon, the entire interior of the Mage Tower grew warm. Feeling the long-lost warmth, Tan You took off her invisibility cloak.
Tan You began to take stock of her belongings. Since she was going to be training in the Mage Tower, her life here needed to be comfortable. First, the basic necessities of clothing, food, shelter, and transportation had to be met.
As for clothes, she had brought plenty of fabric, enough to last until she was an adult. Food... Tan You rummaged through her Space Ring. There was flour, beans, and cooking oil—enough to get by for a few years.
Moreover, as her level increased, her need for food would diminish. In other words, while food was important, it was only a concern for the immediate future.
As for shelter, the Mage Tower was a ready-made home. With just a bit of tidying up, she could live here quite comfortably.
As for transportation, Tan You glanced at the languid hellhound by the fireplace. With it around, travel was no longer a problem. So, after taking stock, Tan You realized she was lacking almost nothing. Now, she could put all her focus on training.
The Beauty System suddenly popped up. "Host, Schubert, Sanders, and the others have arrived in Kandapes. The guards who were scattered have also regrouped. They haven’t discovered that you, Miss, are not traveling with them."
Tan You’s hands, which were kneading dough, paused. "Sanders is a cunning one. He understands the importance of seeing an act through to the end better than anyone."
"Host, are you going to live here from now on?" the Beauty System asked, flying in a circle in front of Tan You, its tone laced with curiosity.
"Of course. Didn’t I tell you? I won’t leave the Mist Forest until I become a Five-star Mage." Tan You set the kneaded dough aside to rise, then set up a stove and started a fire.
She had a thoroughly Chinese palate. When she was with the Edmonds family, she’d had to eat bread every day, and she had long grown sick of it. Now, for the first meal in her new territory, Tan You wanted to indulge in some meat to celebrate the start of her new life.
"A Five-star Mage... that will take a long time," the Beauty System remarked with a sigh. "I heard it took the Saint Heir of the Divine Hall of Light twenty-five years to become a Five-star Mage."
"Perhaps," Tan You said. She didn’t consider herself a genius. "As long as I can train, I’ll get there eventually. By the way, are those two Magic Wolves still outside?"
The Beauty System transmitted an image of the two Magic Wolves. They were lying by the Mage Tower’s gate, already covered in a layer of snow.
"They were driven out of their pack. The male used to be the alpha, but he was defeated by another Magic Wolf. A defeated alpha can’t remain in the pack, so his mate left with him."
"The alpha wanted to hunt food for his mate, but he was already injured from the fight..."
Looking at the image of the two Magic Wolves snuggled together, the corners of Tan You’s lips suddenly curled. "So loyal. I’ve always heard that wolves are loyal animals, and now I’m truly seeing it for myself."
At this thought, Tan You’s fingers twitched slightly, and the Mage Tower’s gate opened without a sound. Both Magic Wolves turned their heads in unison to look at her.
Tan You stepped aside. "If you’re willing, you can stay here. You’ll have to stay on the first floor, though. I won’t stop you from going out to hunt, but if you’re going to live here, you must follow the rules. Don’t disturb my training."
The she-wolf was the first to approach, nuzzling Tan You’s right hand before trotting over to the fireplace to lie down. Its mate, however, looked at Tan You and let out a cry. Tan You frowned. "I don’t understand."
’Just because I have an affinity for the Undead doesn’t mean I can communicate flawlessly with Magic Beasts.’
The Magic Wolf cried out again, nuzzled Tan You’s hand once more, and only then went to lie down beside its mate. As for the hellhound, it looked at the two Magic Wolves, its three heads twitching, and shifted its body to the side a bit, its tail occasionally tapping twice on the floor.
Having taken in the two Magic Wolves, Tan You saw that they weren’t in good shape. When she prepared their dinner, she deliberately added two blood-replenishing potions to their food.
She’d gotten them for free, anyway, so Tan You didn’t feel the slightest pinch giving them away.
