Chapter 184: Interviewing The Prospects
It was the next round of interviews for my Guardian selection again.
Naturally, I had to join in as well since I made quite an impression on the last round and it would be weird if I didn’t show up.
And of course, I was attending it as Qing instead of my Mortal God persona.
I was kind of expecting another interview where we might be fighting against another robot or something but surprisingly, the first part was an actual interview.
They had us gather in a waiting room and we would be called one by one into another room where my Guardians would be interviewing them and asking them questions.
I was the first one there since... Well... I live here... So it was just a simple matter of going downstairs from my penthouse to reach there.
Dan arrived first and he spotted me immediately before heading over to me.
"Yo! Wassup bro!"
I nodded at him, "Sup. Been a while."
"No kidding. Why you guys so inefficient? Make me wait so long before the next interview. I thought you still don’t want me already, sia."
I smirked at him, "Yeah, you’re right. I actually don’t want you. You’re fired."
He gestured at himself, "Fire me? You haven’t even hire me, how you fire me?"
"Sure. I’m hiring you to fire you then."
"Then you need to give me severance pay!"
"Don’t need to. You’re still on the probation period."
"Then I need to claim for that one second of working time I have before you fired me."
I dug through my pockets and fished out a ten cent coin, "Here you go."
He snatched it away from me, "K, thanks bro~"
He pocketed the coin and sat down right beside me like nothing happened.
Bitch actually took my money...
I snorted at him before giving him a nod, "You’re sure your wife is ok with this?"
"Hey, you’re going to pay me good money aren’t you? I’m quitting my other job for this I’ll have you know."
"You’re awfully sure you’re going to get hired, huh?"
"Of course, I have reliable connections here. I know their boss personally. Of course they’re going to hire me."
I rolled my eyes, "Just saying... While I have the final say, my Guardians are going to be the ones that are eliminating the people in the preliminaries. So if you don’t take it seriously before your file lands on my table, I can’t help you."
He waved his hand dismissively, "Ya lah, ya lah. Don’t worry bro, they see my face already they will want to hire one. Because I so handsome."
I groaned and would have said something back to him if it wasn’t for the door opening to allow more people into the room.
Seems like the next batch of people had arrived and amongst the newcomers was the blue haired elf who was still wearing her hooded cloak which was what I used to identify her.
She also spotted me and came over to sit on my other side immediately.
"H... Hello..." She greeted me with a slight bow. "I am... Happy to see that you managed to get selected for the next test..."
I nodded at her, "Same goes for you as well."
Dan grinned and nudged me with his elbow, "Wah... Someone player already ah? You got good taste."
I ignored him and addressed the blue haired elf instead, "This is just out of curiosity but... Why are you trying to be a Guardian?"
There was a slight pause as though she was considering if she should answer the question at all.
Eventually, she let out a soft sigh, "It’s umm... It’s not as complicated of a reason as you might think... I was once saved by someone here... And I would like to repay them... But they aren’t someone I can just meet because of a reason like that so I thought I could become a Guardian and meet them that way."
I wonder what would happen if I told her that the person she was trying to meet was right beside her right now?
The door opened again and another batch of people came in.
This time, the pale skinned woman was in that group and she paused when she saw me, only to make a beeline towards my direction and take the seat directly behind me.
I’m quite sure that she had picked that seat intentionally because it was near me and not because of any other reason since she did lock eyes with me before she walked over towards us.
She did not say a word though, so I chose not to say anything either. I’m not even sure what she wanted to begin with anyway...
It seems like everyone had arrived since the next time the door opened, Maylene hopped in dressed in a formal suit instead of the bunny girl outfit that I had come to be accustomed to.
It almost felt weird to see her in a suit instead of a bunny suit and I can’t deny that I felt a little disappointed too.
She then moved to take position at the front of the room, shooting me a knowing smile for a moment before she addressed the rest of the room.
"Heeeeello everyone!! I’m happy to see that all of you came today! This would be the final interview before we decide if we would be letting you join us! For the first event, we would be conducting an interview with all of you! Please come to the room beside here when we call out your number!"
She then shot me another look and I realised she was looking at me for approval so I just gave a discreet thumbs up.
The bunny girl brightened up and hopped through the door that she had mentioned, disappearing through it before the first person’s number was called out.
Before we got here, we were each given a card with a number on it that my Guardians could use to call us without revealing each of our names.
Almost everyone inside the room seemed visibly nervous except for my group of people in this part of the room, ironically.
They had given me the last number out of everyone so I got to watch each of them walk through the door to attend their interview.
I wished both the elf and Dan good luck when it was their turn and the pale skinned woman kept looking back at me like she was expecting the same treatment when it was her turn for the interview.
I decided to just wish her good luck anyway and I got to watch her smile unnervingly at me before she left.
The room became empty again and my number was called so I got up and went into the room.
Stepping through the doors, I found a room where a long table had been laid out for my Guardians to sit behind while a single chair was placed to face them, no doubt where the interviewee was supposed to sit.
I could imagine everyone who sat in that chair must have felt pretty intimidated to be facing all of my Guardians directly across from them.
I went directly to the chair and picked it up to bring it over to the table so that I could sit closer to my Guardians, all of whom had chosen to stand up when I entered the room.
I motioned for them to sit down as I took a seat myself, prompting them to obey.
"So... How did it go?" I asked.
Olivia gestured to the camera that had been set up behind her, "We can send you the individual records for you to replay them later, my Lord."
"Sure. But for now, let’s hear the verbal report."
Olivia nodded, "There are a few promising ones. We asked them several questions including what they plan to achieve from joining as a Guardian and what their reasons for joining as a Guardian were. Some of them have stated they were only here for the pay while others stated they wish to take revenge on the Anomalies for destroying their own home."
"Hmm... Were there any notable candidates then?"
"So far, the ones who stood out are still the ones we have already marked."
"Stood out in a good way, I hope?"
"That’s correct, my Lord."
"That’s good to hear... Are there any that were particularly bad then?"
"None that we could determine right away, my Lord."
I nodded, "I see. You guys have all worked hard. Good job."
Olivia bowed her head, "It is not worthy of your praise, my Lord."
"No, I know how tiring it is to interview so many people in one sitting so I appreciate it everyone."
Kris giggled from the side, "Ehehehe~ Does that mean we can expect a reward from you, Master?"
I considered it for a moment before nodding, "You know what? Sure. I’ll take all of you out for some good food again once this is done."
"Boo... That’s not what I was thinking about but whatever, food is food~"
I wonder what else he was thinking about...
Anyway... We should be heading to the next phase of the interview.
