Chapter 294: Chapter 177: Robbery 2
Dewey smiled, but there was no gentleness in it, only unbridled arrogance.
Especially with the other Trial Takers allied with him fawning at his side, he exuded an air of fearless, swaggering dominance.
Windsor looked to her brother in a panic. Pound had already drawn his Magic Staff and a Magic Card, his face grim. "Dewey Frank, what is the meaning of this!"
Using his full name was proof enough of his fury.
Although not an explicit rule of the Dragon Hunting Ceremony, an unwritten code dictated that whoever killed a Dragon owned its Dragon Scale.
And undoubtedly, with the Wooden Beard Dragon Beast collapsing behind him with a thunderous crash, this Dragon Scale should have belonged to Dewey.
Pound knew perfectly well why the other man was there to steal the Dragon Scale.
Dewey Frank was once again using the Lawbreaker, Baron Constantin, as an excuse to cause trouble for him and Windsor.
Pound had learned from his father about the awkward situation the Constantine Clan currently faced on the Inner Side. He understood that Dewey’s repeated provocations were ultimately a way to use them to pressure his uncle and the clan elders of the Constantine Family.
’That bastard, Baron Constantin! He’s a Bloodless, despite being from the Direct Lineage. It was bad enough that his broken engagement disgraced the Constantine Clan’s name... but because of all this mess, the whole Constantine Family, including us, has to suffer this targeted harassment!’
’And to top it all off, that bastard killed Soron!’
In addition to his rage at Dewey’s shameless actions before him, Pound’s deep-seated hatred for Baron intensified.
Dewey just chuckled after hearing Pound’s words. "It’s simple. I’m just collecting a little interest on my brother’s death."
The Trial Takers gathered around him echoed their agreement right on cue.
"You!"
Pound’s chest rose and fell violently. But then he glanced at his sister, Windsor, who looked both worried and afraid. He assessed the gap in strength and numbers between their two groups, weighed his options, and simply tightened his grip on his Magic Staff, ultimately suppressing his impulsive anger.
He muttered a few curses in Dewey’s direction and glanced reluctantly at the Wooden Beard Dragon Beast. They had fought so hard to get it to its last breath, only for someone else to swoop in and steal the prize. He took a deep breath.
"We won’t stoop to his level, Windsor. Let’s go."
"Spoken like a true member of the Constantine Family, dressing up spinelessness in such high-and-mighty words. You’re not even as good as that Bloodless cousin of yours... At least he killed your brother, Soron, right in front of Roy," Dewey jeered.
Pound froze mid-stride. Two Trial Takers had moved to block his and his sister’s retreat.
Pound glared furiously at Dewey. "What do you mean by that!?"
"Brother... don’t fall into their trap..."
His sister, Windsor, nervously tightened her grip on his hand. Pound’s face was flushed crimson; he was clearly about to explode from Dewey’s repeated provocations.
"It doesn’t mean anything. I just think it’s a rare opportunity to meet Miss Windsor, and I’d like to take this chance to get to know her." Dewey said with a faint smile. "I wonder what your thoughts are on the matter."
As soon as he said this, the Trial Takers around Dewey erupted in boisterous laughter.
"A beauty like Miss Windsor has probably never been with a man, right? I’m a Beast Faction Demon Hunter from the Demon Hunter Association. I can use Beastification. I guarantee you an amazing time!"
"And which part of you are you talking about ’beastifying’..."
"Heh heh heh..."
Windsor ignored the Trial Takers’ vulgar jeers. Though tears began to well in her pretty eyes, she just hugged her brother Pound’s arm tighter. "Brother, it’s all right... Don’t get angry..."
Pound clenched his fists, for the first time hating the "Constantine" tacked onto his name with every fiber of his being.
He turned to the Wizard beside Dewey. "Mr. Milton, has the Merlin Clan decided to get involved in this as well?"
He recognized the Wizard: Milton Merlin, a Black Iron Mage from the Edinburgh Wizard Academy.
Although he was from a branch of the Merlin Clan, he was representing the clan’s disciples at this Dragon Hunting Ceremony.
Milton Merlin stated flatly, "Mr. Frank hired me to help him with his Dragon Hunting."
That one simple sentence explained his entire relationship with Dewey.
If Baron were here, he would probably be remarking on how money really can buy you anything.
Though Pound didn’t get the reference, he knew it must have been a considerable expense.
He said coldly, "I’ll say it one last time. What Baron Constantin does is his own business; it doesn’t represent the Constantine Family..."
"And what I do doesn’t represent the Frank Family," Dewey interrupted.
He narrowed his eyes, signaling a subordinate to cut the Reverse Scale from the Wooden Beard Dragon Beast. Taking the scale, he said, "You want this Dragon Scale? It’s simple..."
His greedy eyes roamed over Windsor’s elegant and refined figure. "Have your sister spend the night with me, and I’ll give you this Dragon Scale."
On cue, the surrounding Trial Takers broke into the kind of smiles that only men would understand.
"Otherwise," he sneered viciously, "I have every right to confiscate every Dragon Scale you two have obtained in these mountains as interest for Baron Constantin killing Bill."
Windsor’s face went pale—not because of the man’s words, but because her brother Pound had pulled his hand free from her grasp, raised his Magic Staff, and shouted:
"I told you! Baron Constantin... whether you want to capture him or kill him, that’s your business! It has nothing to do with the Constantine Family now, and it has nothing to do with us!"
"But you bastards, again and again, you insult the honor of the Constantine Family... you insult my sister... *Kezar Wulochia Pis...*"
Pound had actually raised his Magic Staff and started chanting. Thunderbolt crackled from the Crystal Stone at the staff’s tip, gathering into an orb of light. An aura of extremely compressed energy rippled out from the orb.
Seeing this, a triumphant sneer touched Dewey’s lips. He patted the Wizard’s shoulder. "Mr. Milton, I’ll leave it to you."
Milton nodded, touched his Magic Staff to a Magic Card, and after a brief chant, unleashed a spell even faster than Pound’s Magic.
Black Iron Magic: Vine Entanglement
Vines suddenly erupted from the ground, wrapping around Pound and Windsor. As for the two Dragon Guides, seeing things were going south, they had already moved to the side.
They did the job they were paid for. As members of the Old Race, they stayed out of any disputes that didn’t involve Dragons if they could help it.
At the same time, just as Windsor raised her Magic Staff to fight back, Milton produced another Magic Card and began a second chant.
The tip of his Magic Staff began to gather a fireball like the one that had killed the Wooden Dragon. In just a few breaths, it was the same size as the Thunder Ball on Pound’s staff—in fact, it was even bigger!
As expected of a descendant of the Grand Mage Merlin; both his chanting speed and the quality of his Spiritual Power far surpassed Pound, who was also at the Black Iron Tier.
In the glow of the fire, Windsor’s face was pale and Pound’s was tense.
The moment he stopped chanting, he whispered, "Windsor, go, now."
Then he aimed his Magic Staff at Dewey.
Black Iron Magic: Condensed Thunder
The orb of crackling Thunderbolt shot toward Dewey’s group like a meteor, letting out a powerful hum as it streaked through the air.
At the same time, Milton also completed his chant. Almost simultaneously, a fireball more than twice the size of the Thunder Ball flew from his staff to intercept it.
Black Iron Magic: Meteor Fire
BOOM!
The fireball and the Thunder Ball collided, unleashing an unprecedented shockwave of energy. The Thunder Ball was instantly devoured by the fireball, and the remaining flames surged toward Pound and his sister.
There was no time to chant another spell.
Pound tried to push his sister Windsor aside, choosing to face it alone.
But at that moment, his sister Windsor raised her Magic Staff. All the surrounding dewdrops were drawn in, coalescing into a wall of water before them.
It turned out that while her brother was casting his spell, Windsor had been casting one of her own.
Black Iron Magic: Water Control
The wall of water that appeared out of thin air was just enough to cancel out the remaining flames.
But before they could rejoice, a pair of bear claws, glinting with a sharp light and radiating a frosty aura, pierced through the wall of water and lunged for them.
"Windsor!" Pound roared.
The color drained from Windsor’s face. She looked lost and helpless, like a little fawn cornered by a predator.
A vicious glint flashed in Dewey’s eyes.
PING!
A Scale-Stripping Saber appeared out of thin air, intercepting the Ice Bear Claw.
The blade trembled, but the hand that held it was as unmoving as a great tree in a gale.
A figure now stood between the siblings and their attacker. She had purple hair adorned with golden rings, a silver mask, and a short blade. Her figure was exquisitely proportioned, and she exuded a sharp, heroic aura. Even with the mask, her pride and aggressive nature were clear from the pair of sharp, deep blue eyes glaring from beneath it.
There are some women in the world who are so tough that even if you saw them crying, you would just assume they got sand in their eye.
Without a doubt, Isabella was that kind of woman.
With a flick of her wrist and a shake of her arm, Dewey felt a colossal force surge from her blade like a wave, knocking his Ice Bear Claw aside.
He recognized the newcomer and was about to speak, but the woman let out a cold snort. Then, from some unknown corner, out popped Master Jack—the very same man the Dragon Guides had dismissed as a first-level player, only to realize he was on the fifth level, never suspecting he was actually on the ceiling.
He opened his mouth and yelled, "This is a robbery! Hand over your Dragon Scales!!!"
