Chapter 1115: Chapter 1115 - Taming the Wall - Perfect Plan - 2

The core of Light and Darkness. The core of Fire and Water. And finally, the prize they had paid for in blood during an escape none of them would ever forget: the core of Wind and Earth.

A brief, analytical curiosity drifted through Ren’s mind as he mentally listed the elements. He wondered why Wood, a primary, foundational element, didn’t figure into the door’s requirements.

He had no way of researching it right now...

Perhaps, once the vault opened, the ancient architecture inside the ruin would offer some clues. He filed the anomaly away alongside his other unanswered questions.

They already knew, in broad strokes, what to expect on the other side.

If this ruin mirrored the architecture of the one in Yino’s southeast, then waiting behind this door would be another "brain", a big, impossibly complex crystal formation.

Julius and Zhao had discovered the Yino brain during that doomed expedition, having been manipulated into finding it by a trap carefully laid by Selthia and Orion. Tricked and inefficiently trapped by the twins, they had been forced to abandon the priceless formation to the dark.

To this day, the Yino brain remains indefensible. The Yino’s side wall had been forced to aggressively retreat, consolidating their military strength into a much smaller perimeter just to protect their surviving civilian population. That ruin was now swallowed by corrupted territory, transformed into a lethal playground that Selthia could weaponize at a moment’s notice. It was a ghost place no human dared to visit.

But if everything went according to plan today, humanity would finally have a "brain" of its own.

Pristine... Uncorrupted.

And completely, absolutely under their control.

The preparations were finalized, and the massive entourage transported to the northwest coordinates.

They descended into the ruin together. The security of their own territory allowed for a vastly larger procession than the desperate strike team that had plunged into the abyss to rescue Sirius.

The girls were there. Lin walked at the front. Sirius walked near Luna, the steady, rhythmic clack of his boots on the stone serving as a living, breathing testament to his miraculous return. And because they were close if defense was needed and safely blanketed by the city’s perimeter defenses, even the highest echelon of leadership had come: Selphira, Victor, and the appointed, secondary representative of what used to be the Starweaver’s Night Faction.

The representative was a relatively unknown Gold-rank Starweaver tamer, a cousin of Sirius. He walked with a stiff, nervous posture, clutching the black crystal of Orion’s wife tightly in his hands. It was the physical symbol of a fractured branch of the family, the loyalists who hadn’t followed Orion into treason and still demanded a seat at the table. But the cousin’s authority existed far more on paper than in actual, tangible power.

He sweated under the unspoken, suffocating presence Luna naturally radiated, entirely aware that the icy princess was slowly, inevitably absorbing whatever meager political relevance his faction had left.

The descent took a long, grueling time.

They walked through ten colossal chambers, each one vaster and more imposing than the last. And every single one of them was completely empty.

The silence was absolute.

There were no roaring Guardians, no chittering hordes of mutants, and absolutely none of the oppressive, rotting weight of corruption that had suffocated every level of the previous ruin.

For those who had survived the descent to rescue Sirius, the contrast was almost alien. It was the exact same impossible, monolithic architecture. The same towering ceilings and sprawling corridors designed to make intruders feel like insignificant insects. But it was completely immaculate.

It was a tomb that had waited in the dark for hundreds of years, perhaps even longer, silently anticipating the arrival of the exact keys the final door demanded.

The rhythmic, unified sound of the group’s boots was the only thing moving in that vast space. Every footstep echoed off the distant, towering walls.

Finally, they reached the tenth door.

Two cores were already embedded in the ancient stone. They had slotted the second into place the moment they had secured it from the opportunistic faction, leaving the two to wait for the final piece.

The Light and Darkness core rested securely in its central socket; the Fire and Water core sat opposite to it on the right. Both spheres pulsed with a low, steady, dormant luminescence. They emitted the faint, vibrating hum of an ancient, starving machine waiting for the circuit to finally close.

Only one socket remained empty on the left.

The core Ren was currently carrying.

Ren stopped. He reached his hand into the abyssal, liquid darkness of his shadow space and slowly drew it out.

The core of the Wind and Earth Guardian caught the dim, ambient light of the chamber, turning slowly against Ren’s open palm. It was the size of an adult human skull, a heavy, perfectly smooth, translucent sphere, swirling with violent, intertwined veins of silver grey and earthen brown.

Ren held it there for a long moment. He didn’t immediately step toward the massive stone door. It was as if the sheer, crushing gravity of what was about to happen demanded a single, suspended second of absolute stillness.

Luna completely stopped breathing.

It wasn’t a conscious decision. The oxygen simply seized halfway down her throat, trapped tightly in her chest. Her eyes were violently glued to the swirling stone resting in Ren’s palm. She didn’t look at the door...

She couldn’t.

Staring at the polished core was infinitely more bearable than looking directly at what it actually represented.

Her mother had been trapped on the other side of that door for years. She was a fractured, agonizing piece of Luna’s childhood, frozen in unbreakable glass. She was a warm voice that Luna lived in absolute, secret terror of one day forgetting.

And now, the final, insurmountable obstacle standing between her and that crystal prison had been reduced to a skull-sized sphere in the hand of a boy who, instead of looking at the door, was looking directly at her.

Right beside her, Sirius wasn’t breathing either.

Father and daughter stood shoulder to shoulder in the dim light of the tenth chamber. They were holding the exact same breath, crushed by the exact same suffocating anxiety, entirely unaware that the other was doing it.

The stoic, battle-hardened commander who had charged into the abyss years ago chasing the ghost of his wife, and the icy princess who had been forced to grow up in the shadow of her absence.

Both of them were exactly one core away from reclaiming the center of their shattered world.

Ren looked at Luna’s wide, trembling eyes one last time.

Then, he stepped forward toward the door.
