Chapter 616: Chapter 615: Reunion (11)
Bella Acker squatted by the tombstone, using the handkerchief she had bought to wipe it clean, and said softly, "Ethan and I are doing well. Ethan has grown up, he’s very smart, his grades are excellent, and he’s even skipped a grade. He’ll be starting middle school soon. I also enrolled Ethan in some extracurricular interest classes, he attends all of them, but I’m not sure which one he’s really interested in. I feel like Ethan is a bit mature for his age; he’s only eleven, but sometimes he seems so grown-up."
"Oh, by the way, Aunt Sienna, you probably don’t know yet, but I had a daughter named Talia. She’s such a little rascal but loves sticking around Ethan. Next time, I’ll bring her to see you." Bella Acker said to herself, her eyes suddenly feeling a bit sore.
She wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes with the back of her hand, her voice becoming even quieter, "Aunt Sienna, I just returned to the country today and ran into Damian. He’s changed a lot, more imposing than before, and he... he seems to have someone else he likes now. The gentle way he answered the phone today, it was never like that when he used to talk to me. Aunt Sienna, do you think I’m kind of silly for not being able to forget someone for five years? I think I’m silly too, but it’s okay, I won’t bother him. If I can’t forget in five years, I’ll try ten. If ten doesn’t work, then twenty, thirty; eventually, I’ll forget..."
By the end, Bella’s voice was choked with sobs.
She leaned against the tombstone and no longer bothered to wipe the tears from her face, letting them flow wildly.
She didn’t know how long she sat in the cemetery until the sun began to set and she slowly came back to her senses.
"Aunt Sienna, I have to go now, I’ll come to see you next time."
Bella Acker bowed three more times before turning and walking out, stepping down the long stone steps one by one.
Actually, she wanted to go to the suburban Mount Sterling to see the child who was gone but eventually gave up due to the lack of time.
When Bella Acker left the cemetery, she only found a taxi back to the city after walking up to the main road.
Archer Quinn had sent her the address of the gathering via WeChat, and Bella Acker directly took a taxi there.
At six or seven o’clock, Creston’s city center was at the peak of rush hour, the roads were jammed, and the cars moved at a pace slower than a turtle’s crawl.
Bella Acker glanced out the car window at the long line of cars ahead, sighed helplessly, and took out her phone to make a call.
"Hello, Senior Quinn, I’m stuck in traffic, it’ll probably take at least half an hour longer for me to arrive. You guys don’t have to wait for me, go ahead and eat."
"Where are you stuck?" Archer Quinn’s voice came from the other end of the line.
"On the Second Ring Road overpass," Bella Acker said, "The cars are moving slower than a turtle’s crawl."
"Wait there, get off after the Second Ring Road overpass, I’ll bike over to pick you up."
"You’re biking to pick me up?" Bella Acker was taken aback, "Isn’t that too much trouble? You don’t have to do that, right?"
"Everyone’s waiting to welcome you back," Archer Quinn said, "I’m leaving now, get off after you’ve cleared the Second Ring Road overpass."
"Alright. Be careful on the bike," Bella said as she hung up the phone, "Driver, please pull over after we’re off the Second Ring Road overpass."
"Sure, are you in a rush to get to dinner?" the driver asked casually.
"Yes. I’ve been away for a few years; I just got back today and am meeting up with friends," Bella Acker replied with a smile.
