Chapter 121: Chapter 121

Fleur woke up just after five o’clock in the afternoon.

Since she was conscious, it meant she had officially cheated death. After a thorough examination, the doctor confirmed everything was stable and cleared her transfer from the ICU to a regular ward.

Inside the VIP room, the nurse adjusted the IV drip, offered a few words of advice, and turned to leave. This left only Dylan and Robin in the room with Fleur.

Robin stood by the bedside, his small face still tight with lingering fear and his dark eyes red and puffy. He rested his hands on the edge of the bed, not daring to actually touch Fleur out of fear that he might accidentally hurt her.

Looking at her with wide, anxious eyes, he asked, "Mommy, does it still hurt?"

Fleur’s face was as white as a sheet, and her dry lips were completely devoid of color. Yet, looking at her son, she managed to force a faint smile. "Don’t worry, Robin. Mommy doesn’t hurt at all."

At that, Robin’s tears spilled over.

"Mommy, you scared me to death...!"

For a five-year-old child, that kind of terror was simply too heavy a burden to bear. As soon as Robin started crying, Fleur burst into tears as well.

"I’m sorry, Robin. Mommy is so useless. I didn’t mean to scare you, I’m so sorry..."

"Mommy, please don’t ever do this again. I don’t want to lose my mommy..."

Hearing his words, Fleur nodded repeatedly. "Mommy won’t. I promise you, Robin, I will never leave you behind again..."

The widowed mother and her son wept together, completely heartbroken.

Standing to the side, Dylan watched the scene unfold with a heavy expression. He pursed his lips, let out a quiet sigh, and stepped forward. Bending down, he gently stroked Robin’s head.

"Robin, don’t cry anymore. Mommy is going to be fine."

The boy sniffled and wiped the tears from his face. "Daddy, is Mommy really going to be okay?"

"Yes, the doctors are very good. She just needs to stay in the hospital and rest for a few days," Dylan comforted him in a gentle voice. "It’s time for you to eat dinner. I had Mrs. Walsh bring some food over, so why don’t you go next door and eat first?"

Robin glanced at Fleur.

She sniffled and coaxed him softly, "Mommy can’t eat right now anyway, and the IV keeps me from feeling hungry. You’re a growing boy, Robin, so you need to eat your meals on time. Listen to your father and go eat."

Only then did Robin obediently nod. "Okay. Mommy, I’ll come back to keep you company as soon as I’m done eating."

Fleur smiled. "Alright."

Dylan then had Mrs. Walsh take the boy next door to eat. Once they left, only Fleur and Dylan remained in the room.

A heavy silence immediately fell over the ward.

Dylan stood by the bedside looking down at Fleur. He seemed to deliberate carefully before finally speaking, his tone solemn.

"Fleur, please don’t do something so foolish ever again. Even if it’s just for Robin’s sake, you have to be stronger."

A sting of sorrow hit Fleur’s nose. Lowering her eyes, she choked out, "I’m sorry, Dylan. I lost control of myself again this time. I couldn’t bear to leave Robin—I truly wanted to stay and be there for him. But last night, I... I’m so sorry. I’ve caused you and Robin so much worry again."

"Let’s just forget about what happened last night."

Dylan’s dark eyes grew deep as he looked at her, his voice turning colder.

"I’ve spoken with Elise, and we’re treating last night’s incident as a misunderstanding. However, as you know, she is currently pregnant. She has a stubborn streak, and during her pregnancy, she prefers peace and quiet.

She doesn’t like having too many people around the house. So moving forward, you and Robin will live at Orchard Villa. You should also minimize your contact with my wife."

Dylan had tried his best to word this as tactfully as possible. After all, Fleur had just escaped the jaws of death and suffered from depression; he didn’t dare be too blunt right now.

But he had to make her understand that Elise’s attitude toward her wasn’t going to change.

Furthermore, he hadn’t been entirely on board with Fleur living at Bennett Manor in the first place. Reviewing the entire incident in his mind, Dylan realized that Elise had actually done this deliberately. She was using Fleur as a pretext to make a point.

Dylan didn’t want to keep arguing with Elise. For one, she was pregnant, and constant fighting would negatively affect both the mother and the unborn child.

Secondly, he genuinely wanted to make things work with her now, and bickering would only erode their relationship. He had never once considered divorcing Elise; that new agreement was merely a tool to appease his throwing-a-tantrum wife. He never thought the day would come where that agreement would actually be executed.

Fleur stared at Dylan in silence.

She knew her actions that night had been impulsive. Dylan must have seen those photos. Even though she had nearly died, he was still drawing these boundaries, which proved he was wary of her.

Fleur knew very well that Dylan only took such good care of her out of respect for his late brother. But his "special care" wasn’t all she wanted!

"Dylan, I’m so sorry. If I knew my return would put you in such a difficult position, I would never have come back in the first place!" Fleur sniffled, her voice carrying a suppressed sob. "How about... I just move back abroad permanently?"

Dylan flinched. He studied her for a moment before asking, "Are you serious?"

Fleur nodded. "But I want to take Robin with me. Is that okay?"

Hearing this, Dylan’s brow furrowed.

"Don’t worry," Fleur added quickly. "Robin is George’s child, and he has already been officially recognized by the family. I’m not trying to steal him away. I just need his companionship. If I’m left all alone abroad, I’m afraid I won’t be able to hold on.

Having Robin by my side to get through the years without George is the only thing that gives me something to look forward to. When he’s older, I’ll send him back. He will always belong to the Bennett family—I will never deny that."

"What are you saying?" Dylan’s face hardened. "You and Robin have already been entered into the Bennett family genealogy. You are my eldest brother’s wife, the legitimate mistress of the Bennett family.

If you feel unadjusted to life in the country and wish to settle abroad, I will have everything arranged for you. But as for whether Robin goes with you, I want him to make that decision himself."

At his words, Fleur lowered her gaze, her wet eyelashes hiding the flash of frustration in her eyes.

She secretly gritted her teeth. She had intended to use a strategic retreat to gain ground, but she hadn’t expected Dylan to actually take her up on it. However, now that she had pushed the conversation this far, she had no choice but to play along for now.

"Alright. I’ll ask Robin later and see if he’s willing to come with me."

"There’s no rush about going abroad. We should at least wait until you’ve fully recovered." Dylan paused, then added, "I’ve had Oliver hire a caregiver, and Mrs. Walsh will be staying at the hospital these next few days. Just relax and focus on getting better."

Fleur nodded gratefully. "Thank you, Dylan. If it weren’t for you, I really wouldn’t have the strength to carry on."

As she spoke, she began to wipe away her tears again, her weeping so fragile and delicate that it would soften almost anyone’s heart.

Yet Dylan’s expression remained unchanged. He simply said, "You are my sister-in-law. My brother passed away early, leaving you and Robin as a vulnerable widow and child. It is only right that I, as his brother, offer my support."

...

Upon leaving Fleur’s ward, Dylan received a phone call from Mrs. Lander.

On the other end of the line, the woman’s voice was frantic: "Mr. Bennett, this is bad! The Madam is gone!"
