Chapter 120: Chapter 120

In the end, Dylan only left her with one final sentence: "Since you’re unwilling to go, then stay home and get some rest."

Elise’s latest indictment against Dylan, just like all the ones before it, failed to elicit a single word of explanation. The conversation ultimately ended on a sour, discordant note.

Elise’s face was completely expressionless. Before Dylan could even turn around, she had already withdrawn her gaze first. She would never watch his retreating back again. Never again would she care about his departure.

The sound of the car engine gradually faded into the distance. The villa fell into absolute silence.

Taking a deep breath, Elise supported herself against the table and slowly sat down. She closed her eyes, raising a hand to press against her forehead.

Right at that moment, a subtle flutter stirred inside her lower abdomen. It felt like a little fish blowing tiny bubbles. She froze slightly. Holding her breath, she gently rested her palm over her stomach. Beneath her hand, the delicate movement became increasingly distinct.

This was the very first time she had felt this baby move. Right after yet another argument with Dylan, she had felt the unmistakable presence of the tiny life growing inside her.

An uncontrollable ache blossomed and spread through her chest. There was absolutely nothing to cry about. Since she had long since resolved to raise this child entirely on her own, Dylan’s existence should no longer have the power to sway her emotions in the slightest.

She could not afford to remain trapped in this suffocating marriage any longer. She had learned how to love herself, and she possessed more than enough financial independence. She trusted herself to be a perfectly qualified mother. From this moment onward, her life would never require Dylan’s validation again.

By the time Mrs. Lander brought out the millet porridge, Elise’s emotions had completely settled.

Back in the kitchen, Mrs. Lander had actually overheard the shouting match between Elise and Dylan. Standing by the dining table now, she looked at Elise with deep worry in her eyes. "Are you alright, Madam?"

Elise looked up at her, her eyes warm and a soft smile gracing her lips. "I’m doing great. Actually, the baby just moved!"

Mrs. Lander gasped in pleasant surprise. "You felt the baby move, Madam?"

"Yes." Elise gently stroked her belly, a tender smile radiating across her face at the mention of her child. "It’s the first time I’ve felt a quickening since getting pregnant. It felt just like a little fish blowing bubbles, and it kept going for quite a bit!"

"That means our baby is incredibly healthy!" Mrs. Lander ladled a bowl of millet porridge and set it before Elise, smiling warmly. "Now that you’re past the first trimester, the baby is going to start growing rapidly in the second trimester. If your appetite is good, Madam, you must eat as much as you can. I’ll go whip up a couple of side dishes right now. This porridge just came off the stove and is quite hot, so let it cool a bit before you drink it!"

"Alright." Elise paused for a moment before adding, "Mrs. Lander, I’m suddenly craving your stir-fried noodles with shredded pork. Could you make that for me now?"

"Of course, that’s easy!" The woman chuckled. "We happen to have both ingredients in the house. What else would you like, Madam? I’ll make it all for you."

Elise thought it over and ordered a few more of Mrs. Lander’s specialty dishes. Seeing that her mistress finally had a robust appetite, the heavy weight in the woman’s heart finally lifted. It seemed Madam had truly seen the light now, knowing how to cherish herself and her baby.

As for the master... Mrs. Lander let out a silent, heavy sigh.

He was supposed to be the brilliant tycoon running the entire corporate empire, so how could he repeatedly lose his bearings when it came to these domestic matters? The master was incredibly lucky to have married Madam; if it were any other woman, this household would have fallen apart long ago.

Busy in the kitchen, she quietly lamented to herself. At this moment, she had absolutely no idea that a permanent departure was already quietly underway.

Elise took her time with breakfast, not setting her utensils down until a little after eleven o’clock.

"Mrs. Lander, I’ll trouble you to clean up. I’m feeling a bit sleepy, so I’m going upstairs to rest."

"You got it, Madam. Go get some rest. Since it’s just the two of us at home today, I’ll wait until you come downstairs later to start on lunch."

"Thank you."

Looking at Mrs. Lander, Elise felt a wave of warmth in her heart. In this entire household, she was the only one who genuinely treated her well. In the end, a husband sharing her bed couldn’t even compare to a domestic helper. With a silent, self-deprecating smile, Elise turned and walked upstairs.

Once back in the master bedroom, she went straight into the walk-in closet.

Opening the wardrobe door, she bent down and pulled out the suitcase stored at the bottom. Unzipping it, she packed away all the clothes she had brought over from her previous residence. There really wasn’t much; even after packing everything, the 24-inch suitcase still had plenty of empty space left.

Wheeling the suitcase out of the closet, Elise placed all her essential identification documents and the pregnancy handbook from her nightstand securely into her handbag.

Afterward, she sat down on the sofa, unlocked her phone, found her sister’s number, and dialed.

"I’m ready. Have someone come pick me up."

. . .

Having finished tidying the kitchen, Mrs. Lander called the driver to take her to the west side of the city to buy the fish.

Standing before the French windows of the master bedroom, Elise watched the black Mercedes gradually drive away until it completely vanished from sight. Only then did she turn around. Picking up her handbag and wheeling her suitcase, she opened the bedroom door.

As Elise wheeled her luggage out of the villa, the security guard spotted her and immediately stepped forward, inquiring respectfully, "Madam, are you going out? I saw that the driver and Mrs. Lander just left a moment ago."

On the day Elise had moved back, Dylan had explicitly instructed the guard to pay close attention to her movements.

Elise maintained a perfectly composed expression. "Just going out for some shopping. My friend is coming to pick me up."

The guard glanced at the suitcase in her hand. "If you’re just going shopping, why are you bringing a suitcase along?"

Elise replied in a chilly tone, "Just some clothes from before my pregnancy that I won’t be able to wear anymore. I’m giving them to a friend."

When her face turned cold, her aura became incredibly intimidating, and the guard didn’t dare press any further.

Right at that moment, a black Porsche Cayenne rolled up smoothly, coming to a stop right outside the villa gates. The passenger window rolled down, revealing a woman in the driver’s seat wearing sunglasses. She called out to Elise, "Hey, get in!"

Elise’s brow twitched slightly as she cast a glance at the security guard.

The latter didn’t suspect a thing. He even helped load her suitcase into the trunk. After offering her thanks, Elise pulled open the passenger door and stepped inside.

The door clicked shut, and the window rolled back up smoothly. The guard stood to the side, bowing respectfully as the black Cayenne U-turned and drove off into the distance.
