Chapter 114: Chapter 114
Compared to their previous encounters, Fleur was acting much more normal today, both in her speech and her emotions. On the surface, Elise couldn’t find a single flaw.
Since Fleur was being tactful, Elise was naturally willing to show her some courtesy. Besides, if she didn’t soften her own attitude first, how else could she test whether Fleur had truly changed?
With this in mind, Elise offered Fleur a slight smile. "Since you said we’re family, there’s no need for such formal talk."
Fleur watched Elise closely, reading her every expression. Elise’s smile wasn’t overly enthusiastic, but her attitude had definitely softened. It seemed she bought it.
Fleur quietly breathed a sigh of relief, her smile becoming much lighter.
"Thank you, Elise! No wonder Robin is always praising you to me!" She stepped a bit closer and smiled again. "Since you’re not angry anymore, can I come over more often in the future?"
Elise curved her lips. "Of course."
A flash of pleasant surprise crossed Fleur’s eyes. "Really? You won’t find me annoying?"
"You’re coming over to accompany Robin, why would I find it annoying? However, I am pregnant, so my schedule is a bit irregular. I hope you can understand that."
Fleur caught on immediately and added hurriedly, "Don’t worry, Elise. I’ve had a child too, so I understand. Rest assured, I’ll do my best not to disturb you when I come over."
Elise offered her a faint smile. "Then there shouldn’t be any problem. Robin will be happy to have you here."
Having achieved her desired outcome, Fleur felt entirely at ease. She was no longer walking on eggshells around Elise.
Elise remained lukewarm, mostly just indulging Fleur as she chatted away.
When Dylan saw Elise and Fleur walking back inside together from the garden, he was somewhat surprised. His gaze lingered on Elise’s face, studying her closely.
"Dylan, don’t look at Elise like that," Fleur said with a smile. "We just cleared the air outside. Elise isn’t angry anymore. She even said we’re family and that I’m welcome to come over whenever I like!"
Hearing this, Dylan frowned slightly and looked at Elise. "Is this true?"
Elise’s face was impassive. "Sure."
Dylan looked at her, his thin lips pressed into a tight line, temporarily at a loss for words. His dark eyes reflected Elise’s perfectly calm expression. For some reason, an inexplicable sense of panic crept into his heart.
Robin walked over, too, holding Elise’s hand with one of his and Fleur’s with the other, a sweet, beaming smile on his little face. "Daddy, I have two mommies now!"
Dylan looked down at Robin’s joyful face, his lips curving into a gentle smile. "Is Robin happy?"
"Yes, I’m happy! Godmother is great, and Mommy is great too!" A bright idea popped into Robin’s little head. "Daddy, Mommy said we’re all family. Since we’re family, can Mommy move in to live with us too?"
Dylan froze at the question.
Before he could react, Fleur immediately spoke up, "Robin, don’t talk nonsense. When I said we’re family, I meant we belong to one big extended family and share a bond of kinship.
But your daddy and your godmother form their own separate family, just like you and I form ours. The family members within a separate family share the closest bond and live together long-term, whereas members of the extended family don’t live under the same roof. It’s different."
Robin was still too young to fully grasp Fleur’s words. He blinked in confusion and asked, "Does family have to be divided so specifically?"
Fleur bent down and gently pinched his nose. "Of course. I gave birth to you, so you and I are relatives with a direct blood relation—it’s only right that we live together.
Meanwhile, your godmother and your daddy are husband and wife; they have a marriage certificate legally, making them the closest partners in life. That’s why they live together, and their baby will live with them too once it’s born."
Robin frowned, catching a critical piece of information. "Mommy, do you mean I won’t be able to live with Godmother and Daddy anymore?"
Fleur’s expression stiffened, seemingly just realizing she had said the wrong thing. She glanced up at Dylan.
Seeing her reaction, Robin’s eyes welled with tears. "So that’s how it is... I thought because I love Godmother, Mommy, and Daddy, it meant we were a family and could all live together..." He didn’t understand why the adult world had to be so complicated.
Robin lowered his head, his grip on Elise’s hand loosening slightly.
Elise looked down at him, her lips pressed together. She knew the boy was hurting, but what Fleur said wasn’t wrong either. He had to understand it sooner or later. Besides, since these words came from his biological mother, it wasn’t her place as a godmother to interject. She remained silent.
Dylan looked at Elise, hesitating repeatedly before finally dropping to one knee in front of Robin.
The man gently ruffled the boy’s hair with his large hand. "Robin, Daddy can promise you that even when your godmother and I have our own baby, we will still love you just the same. In our hearts, you will always be our child."
Hearing this, Robin pouted. "Then can I still come back and live with you?"
"Of course," Dylan smiled. "You can come back anytime."
"But if I come back, Mommy will be all alone over there. That’s too lonely," Robin said.
Dylan frowned slightly, caught in a big dilemma.
Seeing this, Fleur quickly interjected, "Dylan, Robin is still young and doesn’t know any better. Don’t take his words to heart. I’m a grown adult, I’ll be fine living by myself. Besides, our houses are so close by; it’s practically no different from living together anyway."
Dylan fell silent, his lips pressed tight.
Robin, however, turned to Elise and gently tugged her hand. "Godmother, it’s so pitiful for Mommy to live alone. Can Mommy stay over for just one night tonight? Mommy can sleep in my room, it won’t be any trouble."
Elise looked at Robin. The child’s eyes were wide and sparkling with naivety.
She then replied in a flat voice, "Alright. You two can stay tonight then."
Upon hearing this, Robin let out a cheer of pure joy and threw his arms around Elise. "Godmother, I knew you were the best!"
Elise smiled too and patted his head.
Both Dylan and Fleur stared at Elise, their expressions filled with surprise.
Ignoring them completely, Elise said to Robin, "Godmother is going upstairs to rest for a bit. Call me when lunch is ready."
"Okay!" Robin let go of Elise and said obediently, "Godmother, you need to rest more since you’re carrying a baby. I won’t come up to disturb you!"
"Good boy." Elise smiled at Robin, then turned and headed upstairs.
Dylan’s brow furrowed tightly as he watched Elise’s retreating back.
Fleur sent Robin away, then looked at Dylan, speaking with cautious hesitation, "Dylan, why don’t you go upstairs and check on Elise? I’m worried she only agreed just to make Robin happy. Honestly, it really doesn’t matter if I stay alone."
Without a word, Dylan turned and strode straight toward the second floor.
Watching the man’s hurried departure, a gleam of smug satisfaction flashed across Fleur’s eyes.
