Chapter 90: What the elders’ circle feared the most
They used their own hands to create Noah into what he was presently, so they should be well aware of what kind of power he possessed.
They just... Never expected he would one day retaliate.
They were sure they did a good job brainwashing him from young to make him understand that he was meant to follow rules and never disobey.
That was how they trained all Alphas.
A long time ago, during the founding of the Blue Moon Pack, the elders of the pack came together and decided that leaving all authority to the Alpha, someone who was younger than them was an insult to their pride.
They might’ve never had the chance to be the Alpha in their time but they could hold the same power as the Alpha and make the Alpha listen to them instead.
It took a lot of planning to get it to work.
They killed the present Alpha while his offspring was still an infant and trained him in the way they wanted, making sure he knew that the elders were the ones with the power.
He just needed to listen to the elders, listen to their rules, and never defy them.
When some of the leaders of the pack who weren’t in the elder’s circle protested this new hierarchy system, they gave excuses.
They gave a major excuse that if something ever happened to the Alpha, the pack would be in disarray so he couldn’t be the only one with the power.
It was sensible but it was clear that the elders had other plans in mind when they decided to carry out this new order.
That was how they carried out this order from generation to generation, including Noah’s father.
All Alphas thought it was only natural that the elders were the ones with the supreme power, whereas it wasn’t the same for other packs.
But since the other packs did not measure up to theirs, it could be misjudged that those packs were just doing whatever they wanted and weren’t following the order of things the way it should go.
They put the Alphas under the right leeches and made sure there was nothing to break them out of their brainwashing of a few hundred generations. They didn’t let the Alphas feel anything like love or compassion, only a bond and responsibility for the pack members as their Alpha, as well as the next head of the family.
The Alphas were only allowed to have a cold and compulsive relationship with their partner, the female the elders specifically picked out, to produce an heir and nothing more than that.
Nothing concerned the female with the pack and family affairs. All they needed to do was be there and ready for their Alphas when they wanted to mate.
They were no different from breeding machines, who held a strong affection for their Alpha because of their mark but could only helplessly and painfully crave their attention, suffering from lack of attention and crying bitter tears of loneliness.
Not once did any of the Alphas look back at their females because they were nothing more than breeding machines.
This loneliness drove a lot of females to madness, suicide, and running away, but because they couldn’t live without their Alphas for too long, they still ended up dying.
A tragic fate for a female.
The elders feared that if the Alphas started feeling pity for the females, it would turn to compassion and then love, and that would make the Alphas start to lose control.
They would start to rebel, finding their own need to live, finding something they wanted to protect.
That was the worst fear of the elders’ circle.
Noah was supposed to grow with that same mentality, and to make sure he never felt love or compassion, they got rid of anyone who had a soft spot for him.
When Noah was around four years old, there was a maid who had actually helped him up and smiled at him, giving him a glass of milk and saying he was adorable.
That was the first time someone had said something like that to him or even smiled so it made him feel weird.
But the next day, he heard from the others that that maid had been killed because she was trying to get close to him and poison him after gaining his trust.
’People will do anything just to get what they want from you.’ His father had said to him. ’Remember, you can never trust anyone who approaches you with a smile. They always want something from you.’
Another trick was to brainwash the young Alpha, and it held Noah from ever smiling or looking at anyone who smiled in a good light.
The brainwashing worked for sure, and Noah did not trust any single smile out in the world, even when he had grown so much.
It was perfect, they thought.
But the greatest fear of the elders’ circle manifested in him after the accident and he went missing for months.
Noah had seen a smile that he could never ignore. A smile that wanted nothing from him. A sad smile, a painful smile, a funny smile, a loving smile.
He had seen all of it in one person. A person who wanted nothing in particular from him. All he wanted was to share some of his heat and from there...
It was like a dream, honestly. A dream Noah had never had or felt. But it wasn’t a dream. It was reality.
From that misfortune, Noah got a warm heart, learned and felt compassion, and came to experience love.
That was the breaking point of the brainwashing because now, Noah had a mind of his own. He had what he wanted to protect.
So, he was rebelling.
"I no longer need the elders, and you, father, to tell me what to do." He stepped back. "The system has been wrong this whole time and you know it. And to break free from this system and get what I want, I have to stop you, Elders."
"Do you understand what you’re saying right now?" His father asked, gritting his teeth and clenching his fists.
"So, you plan to go against me and the elders? Do you think you can afford it?"
"I’ve already begun to make preparations." Noah said. "That should tell you that I can indeed afford it. But what I can’t afford is having you dictate the rest of my life and move me like a puppet. I..." He glared at them. "Will take the reigns from now on, father."
