Chapter 140: They actually helped this time

"You asked why I did it?" Rhaeger asked, raising his head to show the maniacal smile spreading across his lips. "It’s just because I resent you."

Rhaeger gave no valid reason why he wanted to kill Noah and it didn’t look like he was going to explain any further either.

He just... Wanted to kill him because of his resentment.

Noah frowned.

To think it would come to this.

"Then, do you have any last words?"

Rhaeger paused.

"What?"

Wait, was he going to kill him? For real? 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

"Did you think that I would let you live?" Noah asked. "You tried to kill me once. Who is to say you won’t try that again?"

"Then just exile me. Why the hell do you want to kill me?"

"It’s because I can’t leave someone like you who is not just a threat to me, but a threat to my interests," Noah said, raising his hand and revealing his claws. "Despite knowing you had taken me out, you still wanted to get rid of my mate, knowing he was carrying my child." Noah’s tone grew murderous. "For that act alone, I can not spare you."

"But... But I didn’t. He’s alive, isn’t he? You stopped it and..." Rhaeger was at his wits’ end. He couldn’t die like this. If he died like this then he wouldn’t be able to come back for revenge.

No, he had to kill Noah someday. He had to...

His eyes fell on the opening between the rogues that led to Michael.

He could not kill Noah even if he tried but since he’s going to die anyway, he might as well take the one he holds dear along with him, right?

"You’ll regret this." Rhaeger said to Noah, causing Noah to squint, and then he realized what Rhaeger wanted to do.

His eyes widened but Rhaeger had already moved, transforming into a dog form in an instant.

His transformation did not take even a second to waste and he charged for Michael.

Even as a dog, he still had fangs and teeth that could pierce through the skin and break bones. He was going to charge for Michael’s vital point, his neck.

He thought he could take Michael out since Michael was someone who would shed so many tears for the one he loved. But he was greatly mistaken.

Just as Michael could shed tears and even give his life up to save the one he cared about, he could also raise a knife to kill for the one he held dear.

And in this case, the one he had to protect was his baby growing peacefully in his belly.

There was no way he would let a mere ’mutt’ get close to him.

So, with the scalpel Doctor Ro had given him, he stabbed the dog in the neck, just before it could reach his neck, causing it to whimper.

They were all surprised. For Michael to be able to get the neck with so much precision and no hesitation... It was almost as if he saw it coming.

"I might’ve hesitated if the person I had to stab was a grown man." Michael said. "But unfortunately for you, you’re a dog, so I can do away with that."

Rhaeger’s body jerked, blood dripping down his hairy dog body.

"Tsk, you should’ve run while you had the chance, but thank you for this opportunity. Since I get to be the hero this time." He threw the body down.

They looked at the dog’s lifeless body slowly turning back into a man and then at Michael.

They were suddenly getting the chills.

Michael was so ruthless.

Noah immediately carried Michael up and hugged him.

"Thank the goddess you’re safe." He said, holding him tight. "That was dangerous."

"Please, I’ve watched enough movies to know what comes next." Michael said. "And that guy was just too cliche."

"Thank goodness for that." Noah said, pressing his hand on his head. He was glad. So glad.

"Then, is it settled now?" Doctor Ro asked. "We’ve been out for hours."

"Yes, it’s over now." Noah said and turned to the rogues.

They actually helped this time.

He placed Michael down and then threw his pride as an Alpha aside, bowing his head.

It took them by surprise. A mighty Alpha was bowing his head to them?

"Thank you." He said. "Thank you, for not only trusting Michael but keeping him safe. I will make sure to reward you."

The rogues wanted to act hard to get but they honestly couldn’t hide the flush on their cheeks, feeling shy that they were being thanked this way.

"Oh, don’t mention it." Ramon said, clearing his throat and trying to hide his blush. "But on that note, I have to apologize to Michael as well."

He stood in front of Michael and then, though reluctant, bowed his head.

"Sorry for... That." He said, darting his eyes away.

"Oh, it’s alright. I’ve forgotten about it anyway." Michael said. "Leader,"

"Yes," the leader answered. "Remember what I told you? If you want to change the blue moon pack, the best way will be to align with Noah. If you join forces with him..." He spread his hand out. "You will definitely achieve that goal sooner."

Noah, more or less, understood what was going on and why the rogues chose to help Michael despite already making a deal with Rhaeger.

He agreed to it. He would need a lot of force to be able to take down the elders. And even better if he had a hidden force like the rogues who lived in the shadows and saw practically everything.

"Then, should we discuss that sometime?" The leader asked, stretching his hand out. "I still don’t like Alphas but if it’s someone like you who had no problem bowing his head to what he deems right, then I will follow your orders."

"I look forward to our cooperation." Noah said and shook hands with him.

And then, the countdown began.

From everywhere across the nation, there were loud chants for the countdown to the new year.

"Oh boy, it’s the new year already?" Marco asked.

"Gosh, the time flies so fast." Luke said, scratching his head.

"New year, new beginnings, guys." Ramon said, throwing his arms around their necks.

"New year, new beginnings." They yelled, and a thunderous happy New Year echoed, followed by beautiful fireworks being shot up from the yacht.
