Chapter 135: Okay, shoot the video and send it to me
"If I vouch for the guy, will you believe it?"
The rogues were surprised to see Doctor Ro but the words he said to them surprised them more.
"Wait, you’re defending him?" Ramon asked, surprised. "Why? Did he pay you beforehand?"
Everyone knew that Doctor Ro only moved with money, and whatever he was doing that seemed like a hassle was due to getting paid beforehand.
"Oh sure, my patient just happened to know that some rogues were going to kidnap him and instead of reinforcing security, he decided to get kidnapped. Really smart." Doctor Ro said with that lazy sarcastic tone that Ramon bowed his head in defeat.
"Then, how are ya here?" The leader asked and Roland began to walk towards them.
"I asked your buddies." Doctor Ro said. "They didn’t hesitate to tell me since I’m also a rogue. Pretty convenient," he brushed the back of his neck.
"Jeez, those guys told you just like that?" Marco asked, in disbelief. "This was supposed to be a secret mission."
"Well, secret or not, it’s still a fact that we rogues want the downfall of those annoying rules so we’re all on each other’s side in their eyes, I guess." Doctor Ro explained and then looked at the bruise on Michael’s face. "Jeez, could you guys have been more gentle?"
"Wait, I still don’t get it." The leader said. "Why are you taking his side and taking the trouble of coming here to explain things? You’re not like that."
"Let’s say it’s because I expect to be paid? Something like that?" He said and they frowned. "But it’s also not like that."
He was confusing them. What was it then? Was he telling the truth or was this a lie as well?
"That guy’s my patient and he pays me for his treatment. Noah, the guy you guys are after, hired me to be his personal doctor, apparently, and to keep him safe. He treasures that lad a lot, I tell ya. So, if you do anything to him, things might get really messed up." He took out a cigarette and lit it. "Not just for you guys but for me as well, because then I’d lose a steady and high-paying job, you see."
His words sounded like he was warning them but what could they believe and not believe?
"Don’t complicate things, Doctor Ro." Michael said to him and he shrugged, going to the side to stay.
So long as Michael was fine, he might not need to intervene.
"Anyway, the kid is telling the truth about that while fighting the rules stuff." Doctor Ro said. "He’s the reason for the whole change, so if you do something to him, you will definitely regret it."
"Are ya threatening us?" The leader asked.
"As if." Doctor Ro took a puff of his cigarette and then let it out. "I’m just telling you the future I see if you decide to go ahead with the plans you put together with a traitor."
This caused them to think deeply.
"Look, I’m here. I should be fighting to save him, but I believe his plan will work out, so I’ll just chill here and watch. You guys... Think wisely. This might be your only chance."
"Hey, hurdle up." The leader said, getting up from his chair.
He pulled his team to a corner and there, they discussed for about thirty minutes before turning to find Doctor Ro treating Michael’s face.
"Hey, what are you doing?!" Ramon asked, pointing his fingers and Doctor Ro raised his hands in the air to show the tools he was carrying.
"As I said before, he’s my patient, so his well-being is my priority. Someone definitely hit him so I’m cleaning it up before it gets inflamed. If it does, do you think the Alpha will listen nicely to you when his beloved has half his face ruined?" He said, and they all looked at Ramon, who carried out the deed.
"Ahem, he was the one being rude." Ramon said, making up an excuse but Michael looked at him with bland eyes.
Really?
"Anyway, have you come up with a conclusion?" Michael asked. "What’s it going to be?"
"We’ll do as you say." The leader said and Doctor Ro nodded, seeing as they’ve made the best decision. "This once... We choose to believe you. So, if this turns out to be a trap..."
"Don’t worry. I’m not like some scheming bastard." Michael said, and just then, the leader’s phone rang.
"Ah, speak of da devil." He said and took the call. "Hey, we’re in position."
"So, you’ve got him?" Rhaeger asked from where he was.
"Yes."
"Okay, shoot the video and send it to me. Make it as distressing as possible so we can lure him away from this important event." Rhaeger said, and the leader’s eyes glowed red.
"Yes, we’ll do that now." He said and cut the call. "Bastard. I won’t play by your books." He raised his head and found Doctor Ro feeding Michael with a fork and a plate of waffles. "Where...?"
"I’ve never heard of a hostage eating waffles." One of the rogues said.
"You guys kidnapped him before he could have breakfast." Doctor Ro said. "So, I picked up something on my way here. Also, he’s not a repa hostage anymore. Are the ropes still necessary?"
"Just for now." Marco said, taking out the camera. "Let’s shoot the video first."
So, they made a few changes to the things that would be said in the video and who would appear.
It was supposed to be the leader but just for assurance, Doctor Ro would be the one in the video with Michael.
"Do you think Rhaeger will believe it?" Ramon asked. "He’ll be the first to watch it, just to make sure we didn’t try anything funny."
"Yeah, it’s fine. It looked completely natural." The others said and Michael’s nose grew in pride.
"I’m quite the actor, huhu." He said as they released his ropes.
"Well, now that that’s all done. All we have to do now is wait."
Doctor Ro felt it would be best to contact Sebastian about what was going on but then he thought against it.
The fun of it all would be ruined as soon as he sent that message. If Noah were smart enough, he would be able to pick out the hints Michael left in the video.
’Well, now we watch the show.’
"...and lastly," Michael smiled pitifully in the video. "Remember how I always loved your cooking? You were a natural, and it seemed like you were born for a kitchen. I wish I could have more of your cooking."
Noah’s hands trembled, his grip on the phone tightening in rage.
"What’s going on Alpha Noah? I didn’t want to believe this video because I had never heard about you having a lover. Is this true?" Rhaeger was doing well in his acting and Noah looked at him, his eyes squinted in discomfort.
How could he be so shameless? He was behind this, wasn’t he?
How dare he drag Michael into danger in his quest to take him down?
Innocent Michael was in the hands of a rogue.
"This is my fault," Noah said, his tone filled with sadness and rage. "I have to save him."
"No, you can’t. It’s dangerous." Rhaeger declared. "It’s just a female. You can get another one even if this one dies. This is a very important event that needs your presence. There is no way a single female is more important than your position ."
On the outside, it looked like he was doing his best to persuade Noah but he was just fanning the flame.
His words aggravated Noah. How could he belittle Michael so much? How dare he?!
"I don’t care what you say or think about my mate, I will go and save him and put those rogues in their place. No one can stop me."
Rhaeger secretly grinned. This was going so smoothly.
How dumb could he have been for him to prioritize a mate over his duties?
It was no wonder the elders forbade feelings as it blurs one’s rationality.
This feeling he was feeling would be his downfall.
"I can’t allow you to do that, sir." Sebastian spoke up, causing Rhaeger’s grin to fall.
What did he think he was doing, standing in the way of the Alpha?
"It’s clearly a trap meant to kill you." Sebastian said.
"Even if... Do you want me to stay back and allow my mate to suffer? Do you wish I pick my duties towards the pack over my duties to my mate?" He asked and Sebastian did not hesitate to respond,
"Yes."
His words made Noah angry.
"You..."
"Before you are his mate, you are the Alpha of this pack. No matter what, he comes second." He said such hurtful things that Noah began to wonder if he was wrong about Sebastian this whole time.
He only cared about the pack and not his life.
Wait... He remembered the content of the video and then laughed.
"Rhaeger, wait outside for a bit." He said and Rhaeger wondered what was going on.
If Sebastian managed to convince Noah then his efforts would be ruined.
"Before I leave," Rhaeger said, "I just want you to know that I trust you and... Will follow whatever decision you make. I am your Beta, after all."
