Chapter 125: It’s difficult

The next day felt like the previous day.

Michael stayed in bed, staring at the ceiling and wondering if all that was a dream and he could just sleep his way back into reality.

He closed his eyes and slept for a bit longer, waking up again to the emptiness of his room and the scent of Noah gradually fading.

Gosh, this was the worst. But he wondered what Noah was doing.

How was he dealing with his problems? How well was he faring?

Did he miss him? Of course he did. But he just couldn’t score it and neither could Michael.

He could only sleep in bed as he wished for another day to pass by quickly, which Noah worked his butt off at work.

This was the difference in the path they both chose.

Slowly, Michael sat up on the bed and then sighed.

He dropped his feet on the floor and then touched his stomach.

The only reason he was getting up was because he was hungry and he couldn’t bear to starve himself, since that would mean he was starving his baby as well.

"Alright, Noah Jr," he teased, smiling down at his belly. "Let’s go find something to eat."

Luckily, this time, he wouldn’t walk out to find the kitchen covered in smoke. And thankfully, he didn’t.

"Sir, you’re up." Alyssa quickly got up from her chair and Michael looked towards the kitchen.

It didn’t look like they starved. And he was getting the whiff of something delicious tko. So, who cooked?

"If you’re hungry, your share is in the pot." Doctor Ro stated from where he was. "Hopefully, the little lady can at least heat it up for you and not burn the kitchen in the process." He nonchalantly said.

"Hey, stop calling me a little lady!" Alyssa flared up at him but he ignored her.

"It’s fine. I can heat it up myself." Michael said and walked towards the kitchen.

Doctor Ro cooked up pasta. Surprisingly well, too.

It was still early noon so the day was far from ending any time soon.

"So, have you decided yet when you want to leave?" Alyssa asked and Michael paused, raising his head from the meal he was having.

She has a rather serious face as she was considering his safety above anything else.

"How many days are left till the new year?" He asked as he resumed eating.

"Four days." Alyssa said.

Michael wanted to stay in this warm house filled with memories a bit more but it looked like they were rushing him.

Why? Was it simply that the longer he stayed here, the more danger he was exposed to?

Or was there a reason why they didn’t want him to stay till the new year? Was there something going on that he did not know about?

"It’s fine. So long as I’m not found associating with Noah, they won’t come after me, right?"

"That’s not it." Alyssa said. "Right now, the elders are restless because Alpha Noah declared war, and they don’t know the cause, so they will do whatever they can to find out what changed him, as well as eliminate them so that they can take control of him again."

After hearing this, Michael finally understood why Noah wanted him to leave so badly before their relationship was exposed.

So, his life was in danger if those Elders found a way to trace back to this house and know that Michael was involved with Noah, and possibly the reason why he changed.

’It’s difficult.’ Michael thought, suddenly finding it hard to swallow as the lump in his throat grew uncomfortable.

He thought he could find a way to bide time and stay here a bit longer but now he knew why it was like that.

"Two more days." Michael said, placing down the fork. "Just give me two more days, okay?"

Alyssa looked at him worriedly and then nodded.

"I’ll let my boss know." She said and Michael went back to his room.

He had only eaten half of the meal, and it wasn’t like he had served a lot on his plate. Seeing this, Alyssa felt bad and pursed her lips regrettably.

Michael slept like someone who was on pills and woke up a few hours later when it was dark outside.

He sighed, walked out, and saw that Doctor Ro had prepared Dinner but was minding his business with a book in his hand, just like that afternoon.

"It’s pretty late." Doctor Ro said, "Heat up the food and eat lots. You can’t eat only a little this time just because you don’t have the appetite. Think of how you need to grow your child strong and healthy while it’s still inside you."

Michael heard this and nodded, turning to the kitchen while Alyssa watched with little mixed feelings on her face.

Doctor Ro could at least do his money’s worth and watch over his patient’s diet and make sure Michael wasn’t skipping meals

"I know I can’t throw a tantrum and skip meals." Michael said, sitting at the table and Doctor Ro rolled his eyes towards him from his book. "I’m doing my best."

He watched Michael as he began to eat and thought he was rather pathetic. This was what happened to people who decided to become slaves to feelings like love.

But it wasn’t his business anyway.

He rolled his eyes back to his book and said,

"Make sure to drink lots of milk." He added and Alyssa took out the milk from the fridge for Michael.

"Here." She said and he nodded. "And I’m sorry if I was insensitive earlier. I know it must be hard for you."

"No, it’s fine. You actually opened my eyes to realize the situation I’m in and that I should not dawdle. So, thank you."

Still, Alyssa did not feel very good about it.

After eating, Michael went back to his room and slept.

Usually, unless one was intoxicated, stressed or on drugs, they wouldn’t be able to sleep for more than, at most 15 hours a day, but Michael was able to sleep for 23 hours a day if he cut out the time he walked out to have his meal and return to his bed.

And that continued for the two more days he asked to stay back and think some more.

Doctor Ro deduced that this was a result of his exhausted heart, as well as the energy of the baby he was carrying, which was draining his own.

It would be nice to have his Alpha close by but since that was impossible, he could only sleep.

He would soon get used to it and get over it, so it was fine and it didn’t affect his health too, so there was nothing to worry about.

Once they left the country and he found other things he would like to do, he would busy his mind and his heart would get well from the exhaustion.

Only the longing for his Alpha would still be there, and he could occasionally fall into depression.

This was why Doctor Ro was there to make sure this didn’t happen. Post-delivery depression was very toxic and could make him want to take his own life.

In order to prevent Michael from falling into the clutches of loneliness and depression, Doctor Ro would recommend some exercises as well as activities he could do on a daily basis to get his mind off those things.

This was why his job was quite complex and he was paid a lot.

’I don’t think I was paid enough though.’ Doctor Ro thought as he took in a puff of his cigarette on the balcony and then blew it out with ease. ’Hm, I should’ve definitely charged double.’

He was a greedy one, this one.

On the other side, lying in bed and staring at the ceiling, Michael had his thoughts reminding him of what day it was.

’Two more days to Christmas.’ he thought. ’We should probably leave the country tomorrow.’ He turned around and his eyes fell on the empty closet.

Alyssa had emptied the closet and wardrobe and put them into suitcases.

The ones he would like to wear and the ones he would rather give away. He didn’t want to give out any at first because Noah had touched most of those clothes and his scent lingered on them.

But he couldn’t wear all of them and they couldn’t take all of them along as well towards their new beginning, so he had to close his eyes and just let go.

Michael closed his eyes and then opened them again, seeing an image of Noah lying right next to him, his eyes on him, and a smile on his lips.

He was handsome.

This tanned man with black hair and black eyes was all he wanted.

But why was it that every time he reached his hand out to him, he would disappear?

He closed his eyes once more, feeling tired and sleepy.

This was reality, so matter how many times he closed his eyes and opened them, wanting to believe that it was somehow a dream, he would wake up to this emptiness and find himself alone.

He clutched the sheets, gritting his teeth.

This wasn’t fair.
