Chapter 120: Then, I wish you a safe journey
Noah turned to Michael and said,
"Sebastian will drive you home." But Michael grabbed his arm, had heart refusing to let go at the last moment.
"I’m sorry. I’m sorry." Michael apologized, lowering his head as his eyes teared up. "Just give me a moment."
Noah’s face twisted in pain as he watched Michael looking so miserable at their departure.
What could he do for this man he loved so much?
He was putting him through so much. He was letting him suffer but he didn’t have a choice. He... He couldn’t let him get hurt simply because they wanted to be with each other.
It was too cruel for both of them.
’The end always justifies the means.’ Noah thought, kissing the top of Michael’s head. "I’ll let you go now but don’t worry, we’ll reunite soon."
It was this departure and the thought of never being able to see it be with Noah anymore that caused Michael to hide a lot of things and wish to keep him by his side forever.
Though he talked big and sounded so confident, saying he was breaking up with Noah, he said he would wait for him and would try to make things work while he was away; the real thing was always more difficult.
He just couldn’t see himself living without Noah. It was too much. But as he said, he would try.
"Bye," Michael said, sitting in the car as he fought his tears from rolling down.
He couldn’t even get Noah’s number because it was possible that they would track him through his number.
It was cruel.
"When are you leaving?" Noah asked, resting on the car’s window panel. He was clearly referring to when he would leave the country but Michael didn’t want to let him know that he would stay for a few more days before leaving.
He needed a little while to say goodbye to the house, after all.
However, Sebastian would probably tell him because he was the one booking his ticket.
"Soon." He said, smiling sadly and Noah nodded, kissing his lips for the last time.
"Then, I wish you a safe journey." Noah said, his eyebrows knitting slightly, but he tried to smile.
Hoping the last memory of him in Michael’s mind would be his smiling face.
The car finally started moving and Noah stood there, devasted.
He had tears in his eyes, watching Michael leave.
He couldn’t even return to that home where they shared so many memories because he was scared that he wouldn’t want to leave that badly.
From this moment, he was cutting all ties with Michael and going professional, ready to root out the evil that was eating at his pack.
He shoved his hand into his inner pocket and took out the journal. He would not relent from writing down how his days were going as well.
’I will also make a video.’
Even though they couldn’t communicate with each other, it was still possible to send something similar to letters.
He would make a recording and have Sebastian pass through several means to send the video so it doesn’t get tracked to Michael.
That was something he could at least do.
"Michael, I promise to make the happy family you dream of."
Michael arrived at the apartment, and as he turned on the lights, he felt the emptiness envelop him.
The house was warm but at the same time, it felt very cold.
He made his way to the room and stared at the bed that suddenly looked too big for just him to sleep in.
He remembered days when he would complain that the bed was too small and sometimes kicked Noah out of the bed, only for him to go to the living room and bed Noah to come back since there was so much space on the bed and he was only joking with him.
And each time, Noah came back.
Michael’s body trembled, heading for the bed and grabbing the sheets. Many times, Noah came back but this time... Noah wasn’t coming back.
He cried.
He had already cried so much on this day but the tears just didn’t know when to stop. They were too much, making him pathetic and unable to be at ease.
But who could blame him?
He was in the stage of his pregnancy where a little shift in mood could break him down. His heart was so unsteady that it wouldn’t be too much to say he would go crazy in a matter of days.
But he decided to stay strong. He decided to pick himself together and not let Noah worry since they both had their battles to fight.
He slept alone in the bed that day, hugging the sheets that still had Noah’s smell lingering deeply in them.
He slept well, despite his chaotic insides but for Noah, he could not sleep a single wink all night.
He was back in his bed, the one he used to sleep in several months ago but he was uncomfortable.
For some reason, he preferred to sleep on the couch than that offensively large bed that was meant for just him.
But even the couch didn’t make him feel comfortable and at ease.
He kept staring at the ceiling that was several meters away from the floor.
This large space, this big mansion, it all belonged to him, and this was how he used to live for over 15 years of his life, but everything felt so foreign right now, and he wished for something smaller.
Something more cozy. Something... Warm.
This uselessly large mansion had nothing but cold frost that had gathered over the years and it was not a place Noah could find comfort in.
This made him miss Michael.
"I miss you." He muttered.
Since it was so cold, Michael would’ve come on to him, falling on his chest and stroking it while staring with a knowing smile.
"Noah, let’s do it and get some heat in." He would shamelessly whisper.
Noah reached for the vision of Michael on his body, but it faded as soon as it appeared, along with that knowing smile.
He was already going crazy and seeing illusionary images of Michael, huh?
Then, he got up, deciding to take care of important work instead of staring at the ceiling all night and dwelling on memories that would make him go completely mad.
He sat up in his office, working all night. But he couldn’t even get a fraction of his work done because there was so much.
He needed to look into the files Sebastian had provided for him and understand the connections of all the elders across the pack.
Even if he had just taken a little glance at the first file, he understood that his work wouldn’t be easy.
The elders were too powerful.
He dropped his back on, sighing and massaging his nose bridge.
If things were already this messed up, just when was he going to be able to clear it all and reunite with Michael?
"This isn’t fair." He muttered. "Moon goddess, what do you have in store for us? Is this perhaps a sort of challenge set up for me?"
It was indeed a challenge set up for him. After all, no man, or rather, no werewolf would go this far to cross a powerful line if not for the power of love that moves him.
His mate was his entire world and in order to protect that beautiful world of his, he would go to any length, including going against the big powers of his pack.
He was the one the moon goddess had prophesied to put things into order and the one who was far more humane than any Alpha from the previous generations.
The next day, he asked for more detailed files from Sebastian. He was going to fish out where the roots were digging deep into the soil and pull them out completely, leaving not even the tiniest stalk.
Sebastian could tell Noah did not sleep a wink all night, given how he found him sitting up in his office.
This wasn’t even a matter of Noah waking up early. He did not sleep.
"Things will be fine." Sebastian muttered to himself. "The moon goddess wills it."
Though it would be a rather painful journey for the both of them, the end of the journey had delicious and savory fruits that they could use to quench the thirst that accumulated during their journey on such dry and harsh lands.
That fruit was what they needed to look up to in order to keep going.
He would be by his side to help him accomplish whatever he was trying to accomplish and bring about a new reign in the Blue Moon Pack that had been reigned with tyranny for so long.
(So, you don’t think we’re going to just go into a time skip from here, do you? No, no, no, there’s still something going on in the background and Michael was still in the picture. So, stay tuned for the kidnap-- wait, I just gave out a spoiler, but never mind. Enjoy, hehe)
