Chapter 115: Cheapstake

Doctor Ro noticed they were ignoring him and one way or the other, he would have to work for them.

So, he thought of it like this, he would have to work a bit more to save more for his retirement money.

The triple amount was great, but if he added it with the others he had saved and went ahead to buy a decent house on a coastal island, he would be reduced to less than half the amount.

Then, he wouldn’t be able to live the rest of his life without worrying about money. He’d be stranded at that point since he would have to get a job and start saving again.

So, that was his conclusion.

He would work for them, rake up enough money that he wouldn’t have to worry about food or living for the rest of his life. He might even get a mate for himself.

But that was too much hassle. Until then.

"So, how much are you going to pay me?" He asked.

"Have you thought it through?" Michael asked.

"It’s not like you gave me a choice." Doctor Ro said.

"You’re right. I didn’t give you a choice but I gave you enough time to think of how this would benefit you. So, have you thought about it?" Michael asked and Doctor Ro squinted his eyes.

This guy... Was he such a cunning man who always got what he wanted? He also had a way with his words.

"Alright, I got it. I’ve thought it through, and I’ll work for you for as long as you need, but you’ll need to get my equipment for me. I won’t get them myself."

"It’s settled then." Michael said. "You can discuss what you need, as well as your payment with Sebastian. But as for the amount I promised you, I’ll pay that from my own pocket. So, how much is it?"

Doctor Ro did not hesitate to call out.

"It’s 2.5 million." He said.

’Hm, that little?’ Michael wondered but then Doctor Ro added.

"That’s the original amount. If you multiply it by three, that’s the amount you’re going to pay. Are you sure you’ll be able to afford it, or do you need your Alpha to pay for it for you?"

Michael scoffed.

"Don’t look down on me." He said and did the calculation in his head. "That’s 7.5 million, right? It’s nothing to me."

"Don’t forget the one for the book I recommend."

Alyssa clicked her tongue. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

"Cheapstake."

"Sure, sure." Michael was about to ask him for his account details when Noah stopped him.

"Hold on." He said. "Don’t send it to his original account."

"Huh? Why?"

"There are a few things we need to clear because Doctor Ro is a rogue." Sebastian said. "Once all that is done, you can send him his money with ease."

Doctor Ro seemed to understand what he was talking about so he did not complain.

"Alright then." He said and then yawned. "When do we do the talking? I’m tired and need to go rest." He decided to have a couple of drinks before heading home as well.

"Come with me." Sebastian said. "And you too, Alyssa."

Since she would be going around with Michael, she’d need to act as not only his bodyguard but his assistant.

She was well trained in combat and had a fast mind, too, so she could act as an assistant, but she did have her flaws.

He would talk to her about that while also putting her through what she needed to prioritize during her journey with Michael.

Alyssa smiled at Michael before heading out and Doctor Ro sighed. Once again, he was going to be working.

He hated his life, but this was how he chose to live, so he could just keep at it.

"Bye, doc. I’ll be in your care." Michael said, waving at him, but he only grunted in dismay.

This was his fault.

After they were gone, Michael and Noah were left alone.

It was 8pm but it didn’t look like either wanted to have dinner yet.

It was probably because Michael felt sad that Noah would have to leave and not come see him again.

Did it have to be now?

Why couldn’t he stay for a few more days?

"I wish I could." Noah said. "I really wish I could stay with you, Michael."

"The people you’re about to face must be really dangerous." Michael said. "And that’s why you can’t risk having me around you, right?"

"Yes. They will do whatever they can to harm you." He said. "And it’ll be even more dangerous if they find out that you’re pregnant. They won’t hesitate to kill me and then take you, since I’m being so rebellious. They would rather get rid of me and raise another Alpha."

"Hm, an Alpha. Does that mean our child will be the next Alpha?" Michael asked but Noah honestly hadn’t that far. "He’ll be strong and healthy, for sure. But... What if I give birth to a girl?"

"That’s not possible." Noah immediately said with all confidence.

"How come?" Michael asked, genuinely curious.

"I don’t know why, but a female only ever gives birth to a male, an Alpha. I don’t know how it is in other countries and other packs but that’s how it’s been in our pack." He said.

"Are you sure?"

"It’s because the system is designed to birth a suitable heir."

"Then can a girl not be that suitable heir?" Michael asked. "The law doesn’t state that the Alpha has to be a man, right? What states that only men can be heirs?"

This question made Noah silent.

He hadn’t thought about it since he was sure the heirs were only the strong men that were birthed from females.

"Just as men can be weak, women can also be strong. So, if it’s a strong heir that’s being birthed then it can be a male or a female. As for the reason you don’t know about any Alpha’s female birthing a girl, it might be because of this." Michael took in a deep breath and said what he believed might’ve been going on. "Your pack likely has an issue with a woman being the heir, being the next Alpha, so if a girl is born, they’ll get rid of it and leave no trace."

Noah went silent. There had been no such thing as a female birthing a girl so Michael might be mistaken. But then, what if the girl wasn’t birthed but killed while still in the womb.

For example, during the monthly scans, they discovered the gender of the child and forced the female to have an abortion and secretly made them have a miscarriage just to stop the birth of a girl.

He couldn’t think of anything more than this.

Like, it was ridiculous.

Females don’t give birth to girls? Were their ovaries only filled with male eggs? Nonsense.

Ah, why didn’t he think about this before?

The leaders of his pack and the last Alphas were all cruel.

Not only did they subject the females to loneliness till their death, but they also had to suffer the pain of losing their first child just because it was a girl.

Ah, how many of them suffered numerous times from conceiving a girl a couple of times before getting a boy?

Females weren’t respected in his pack and were used as tools. He was going to change that. He would definitely destroy that concept.

"I understand." Noah said and Michael brushed his face in a soft caress.

Finding out about something like this must’ve been hard.

How many of his siblings did he lose before he came to life? They were likely all girls. But what about there was a male who seemed not suited for the seat of Alpha and was killed?

Michael couldn’t help but think of things like that.

’No, I should stop.’ he thought. ’I can’t waste our last moments together having such thoughts.’

He looked into Noah’s sad eyes and then thought of something that might lift their mood.

"Shall we think of a name?" He asked and Noah’s eyes widened, turning to look at him. "We only get this chance once so why don’t we think about it long and hard?"

"You want to name a child that’s not even three months old?" He asked, laughing softly.

"Hey, how did you know it’s not up to three months?" Michael asked. "I didn’t tell you that."

"It’s been three months since my heat." Noah said, kissing the corner of his eye. "So of course I’d know."

"But it’s not a bad idea." Michael said. "If we give it a name now, I’ll know exactly what to call it when it comes into the world."

"But we don’t know if it’s a girl or a boy."

"Then let’s choose one for both genders." Michael said. "This is the first time I’m doing something like this so I’m a little nervous. What about you?"

"I’m a wreck." Noah confessed and Michael laughed.

"I guess so. It’s the same for both of us."

He looked softly at Noah and then leaned in to kiss his lips.

"I just thought of one." He said. "If we end up having a daughter, let’s call her Olivia."
