Chapter 334: Home Growing
The next two days were spent mostly in the guild house, settling in properly this time as well as setting up their bedrooms. The Brick was used for a few more runs to people’s houses to collect any left over items, such as Valerie’s extra comfy gel padded gaming chair that she got from the Beta test.
She had also got Trivian’s help, as he could mold stone like it was clay, to make a small little statue for Sebbie. She designed it to be just like the ones in Dawd, right down to the mischievous smile, and placed it in the common room of the guild house.
That way whenever anyone had their meals, which were now lovingly crafted by their new and improved chef Jinu, Sebbie could have his piece too. Plus he was fantastic for house chores.
Ren had spent his days fiddling around with his ’Soul Seed’ that he got from the corrupted tree that smelled like death and produced rancid fruits filled with creepy, body twisting leeches.
He claimed to have purified it, although it was a doubtful claim, but thankfully he had yet to plant it. He needed to do more research on the proper cultivation methods for the tree before even attempting it.
Until then, the seed was safe with him.
Conversely, their resident Druid had been much more successful in his endeavours and had made the outside of their guild house look beautiful.
Trivian had been going wild with his new abilities, revelling in the fact that his plants actually grew now, as he terraformed the entire island.
That wasn’t an exaggeration either. He literally changed the earth of the artificial island.
Using a spell that was supposed to revitalise dead earth after disasters, and restore wild-lands to their vibrant state, Trivian was actually able to turn the artificial island into a vibrant paradise that could fully support life.
He transformed the fake dirt into real, nutrient rich earth that the plants would thrive in. Then he painstakingly changed the formation of that dirt, until he had created the perfect garden with peaks, small caves for things like mushrooms, and even created a small lake.
The centre piece of it all, was the seed that he had gained from the Dryad, which had already sprouted into a five foot tall, skinny tree in the span of 48 hours. But thankfully that rate of growth was slowing down to something more manageable, although still far faster than most of nature.
He had planted it beside the lake, the perfect distance so that it could grow tall and strong, without its roots breaching into the lake and draining it, while still allowing it to provide shade if someone wanted to have a nice lake-side picnic. That is, when it eventually grew enough leaves.
However just because it was small now, didn’t mean that it wasn’t still useful.
All the plants in Trivian’s garden naturally produced mana, as did every living thing in the world. But this tree produced nearly five times as much as the next plant, especially for its size and age. It was full of life force and was eagerly letting it drift into the air alongside the oxygen it was pumping out.
The mana filled the air, making every breath refreshing and pure, as it was free from the pollution that they were used to. Even better, it seeped into the earth that Trivian had altered, which steadily improved it.
Not only did that feed back into their other plants, which caused them to produce more mana and feed into the cycle exponentially, but Given enough time they could even start producing their own magic plants with properties that could be used to create potions or as spell components.
The only issues was their plant variety.
They were restricted by what Trivian had previously owned, plus Valerie’s splurge before she found the power of her shadow. While that was a nice variety, they were mostly plants made for looking good rather than utility.
It was still nothing compared to the farm the Monarch Cult had.
The problem was just getting seeds. While Trivian could create them, they were plants sustained entirely through his mana. Much like if you cast a fireball above your hand, They didn’t last on their own without the caster feeding mana.
As soon as the supply cut off, the fire snuffed or in this case the plant withered and died. Even trying to feed them off the earth’s mana didn’t work, as they refused to root despite Trivian’s manipulation. Any permanent flora he could create, such as his potion flowers, were also completely infertile.
It had become one of their main tasks to figure out how to transfer those between worlds, or failing that, find somewhere for Trivian to set up another garden that he could maintain as Figg, and produce all of their magical components there.
However that seemed more irritating than challenging, although Trivian didn’t seem bothered by the idea of two gardens.
However, the fact that seeds were one of their main issues was a far cry from what the rest of the world was experiencing. Even if they were completely unaware of the true danger that was lurking in the shadows, the entire balance of the world had been upset by what Rift Divers had brought into being.
Unsurprisingly, giving millions of people supernatural powers had caused a slight touch of chaos in the world order.
Plenty of people were quitting their jobs to pursue Dawd full-time, while others were enjoying whatever power they had. Crime had shot through the roofs, with multiple people attempting to rob banks or stores or really anywhere with money. Three idiots even tried to rob the same bank, at the same time. All unrelated to each other.
They ended up getting into a very public brawl that nearly destroyed the entire building.
However, the Enforcers quickly got involved not just with this case, but with nearly every case of these supernatural crimes being committed. The only time they didn’t appear, was when the cities or companies didn’t buy into the Enforcers ’Insurance’ plan. Something that the Enforcers themselves were very clear about when people complained to them.
In situations like these, the police were next to hopeless. They eventually stopped those crimes, but not without serious death and destruction that could have been prevented by the Enforcers. Which, again, they were very eager to explain to anyone and everyone.
The guilds and E-sport companies were also doing fantastic, as they went full force into the new world. Setting up training houses that were a paltry version of what Fate Breakers had created, but with the same goal in mind.
Although they couldn’t bring objects over from that world, they were smart enough to figure out that more power in one world meant more power in the other. Which turned their love of dungeons into an obsession, as they were desperate to have the strongest and best guild in the entire world.
It was this rush, and the massive investment into the guilds, that allowed a guild to finally step foot onto the seventh floor of a dungeon filled with lava. The same Dungeon that their party had been traversing before the update and had yet to return to.
It was only after the posts that someone was close to getting the first clear, that the newly named Fate Breakers decided to return to Dawd.
