Chapter 325: Divine Furnace
The burning scroll exploded into a ring of golden fire that pulsed outwards, flowing over Jason, the abomination and everything else in its path, before it halted in the air. It formed a perfect circle, five metres in diameter, that encompassed the abomination.
The flames compressed down, until the circle was a singular band of golden light, that started to creep outwards, spreading more golden light up and down, as the walls of a shield started to form. All of this happened in the span of a second, less time than it took Jason to reach the ground from his leap.
Which was good, because at the same time Jason activated the scroll, Valerie manifested from the shadows and flopped to the ground. She thrust her hand out immediately, channelling her bloodline with all of the concentration she could spare.
A wall of magnetic force blasted across the battlefield, smashing into Jason’s metallic body like a bus and sent him flying away from her. He quickly flew to the edge of the circle and smacked against the rising shield, before bouncing off of it and careening through the air as the shield crawled over the space he had just flown through.
When the shield was fully formed, and the scroll’s spell was complete, the abomination was completely encased by a golden, translucent semi-spherical shield. The undead were still trapped inside with the abomination, as the two fought against each other in a battle that the abomination was quickly winning.
"That’s not going to hold it! And what the hell are you talking about circles for? What circles?!" Ren barked as he glided down on the back of his undead Dragon. His eyes locked on the slaughter of his undead.
They might have been completely expendable, but they were also part of their fighting force and not something he wanted to waste for no reason.
However despite his question, Jason didn’t answer. Instead he let the metal retreat back into his pores as he glanced nervously at his sister.
"Val... Any day now."
"Yeah I know... just two more runes..." Valerie muttered to herself, her hands drawing runes into the air that drifted up into the air, before Valerie finally shouted in success.
"Done! Get in the circles!" She yelled, as she slapped her hand down onto the ground as hundreds of lines of glowing light suddenly manifested. It was a beautiful display of six circles, one of which Valerie was already laying in, which surrounded a giant circle that was perfectly sized for the golden dome it sat beneath.
Within the smaller circles, there were hundreds of tiny, intricately drawn runes and lines that were drawn like circuits, all of them leading into the single, colossal rune that filled the giant circle.
The parties eyes widened at the dazzling display of runic magic, but a roaring screech of the abomination as it tore apart another undead snapped them out of their stupor. Each member rushed towards one of the smaller circles and waited for what was to come next.
Even the great and powerful Ren descended from his dragon and got into position, as Valerie stuffed her hand into her shadow.
She pulled a handful of Source Remnants from her [Eternal Companion] and stuffed them into her mouth like popcorn. They instantly melted, flooding her weakened body with an overwhelming amount of mana.
It wanted to flow into her source, to push her to the next step, but instead Valerie forced it into her arm and poured it in the circle beneath her. The first drop was enough to activate the spell, while the rest was greedily accepted by it and even more was drained out of her.
Not just her. The entire runic spell flared to life, the six mini circles glowing bright as the individuals inside went rigid. Their bodies locked up, grunts of pain and confusion leaving their lips, as streams of mana flowed through the air.
Everything they had in their body was being drained out of them to feed the enchantment beneath their feet. The only exception was Jason, who kneeling in his circle with his hands clasped as he muttered a prayer beneath his breath.
The abomination twisted its body within its cage, snatching the Thunder Fang off of its back and pulling the undead cat into its mouth, which it quickly filled with acid as it crunched on the remains.
Acid dripped from its floral shaped mouth as it clambered to its feet, glancing around itself before letting out a low rumbling growl. It twisted its mouth into a hose spout, and blasted a torrent of acid at the shield, which rapidly melted and degraded the scrolls spell.
But by the time the hole started to form, Jason had finished his prayer.
"....Help us, oh Great Lord of Beasts, eliminate this abomination that has corrupted one of your children. Purge it in Holy Flames." He muttered, before his eyes snapped open, showing the divine and pure white glow within them.
The fur of his ears glowed with the same radiated light, as did his hands as he slammed them against the circle he was kneeling within.
The divine light rocketed through the lines of mana, flowing through the circuits and into the colossal rune beneath the abominations feet, as the mana required to activate it was finally gathered, and the rune of fire finally flared to life.
The golden shield became filled with pure white flames in a single instant. It filled every crevice of the dome, and poured from the hole like the stream of a jet, as the abominations agonised screams were drowned out by the roaring of the holy flames.
It was a Divine Furnace, purifying everything the flames touched and eliminating everything disgusting and impure, which the abomination was entirely.
Valerie kept pouring her excess mana into the spell. Beads of sweat trickled down her forehead and dripped from her nose, as she kept it going for as long as she could. Within the flames she could see shadows of the creatures form moving, as it tried to crawl its way to the exit it had created, before it finally collapsed, to which Valerie was quick to follow.
Her vision rapidly turned black, as her eyes rolled into the back of her head before she flopped to the floor and slipped into unconsciousness.
