Chapter 323: Blood Brother
Valerie hesitated for a brief moment, scared to drink from Jason’s hand in case it awakened the beast within her. But the hunger within her was too much to resist, especially once the first droplet dripped from his cut and onto her tongue.
She lunged forwards, clamping her teeth into his hand on instinct to keep it anchored in her mouth, as more blood sprayed into her mouth.
Jason winced as the teeth pierced into his flesh and scraped against his bones, but he didn’t even try to pull away as he let Valerie drink from him. Drop by drop, ounce by ounce, gulp by gulp. With every mouthful of crimson goodness, Valerie’s internal injuries started to rapidly heal.
Whilst Jason was being used as Valerie’s personal IV, he raised his eyes from her and focused on the battle at hand, waiting for the next person to need his help.
He was so focused on the twisted abomination, as was everyone else, that he missed the sight of its shadow squirming until a colossal creature leapt out of it.
The Black Winged Demon leapt from the shadows, swinging its spike covered mace-like tail down and smashing it into the side of the abominations body. The bone spikes tore through the abominations skin, spilling acidic blood across the stone as well as sticking to the ends of the spikes.
Although they rapidly started to hiss and melt, the colossal Beans leapt backwards and quickly fired the sizzling spikes towards the abomination, peppering its body with them. Even if their points were starting to dull, they had enough force to tear through the skin even more and send it staggering backwards.
The two creatures faced off with each other, letting out low rumbling growls as they stood tall and stared each other down. The spikes sticking from the abominations side gradually clattered to the ground, as the impaled portions melted away from the acid blood before the holes rapidly healed.
Beans on the other hand, simply grew more spikes, as they sprouted from his bone covered tail-tip like bamboo, before he let out a deafening roar of vengeance that the abomination matched with a high-pitched, layered shriek of its own.
The abomination’s flower shaped mouth clamped closed, twisting itself into a spout that sprayed acid like a deadly fire hose. The acid shot straight towards Beans, only for it to hit a wall of pure darkness that suddenly rose up between them.
The acid splattered against the shadows, melting away at the very concept of darkness itself, but by the time the wall finally fell, the colossal Beans was gone.
The Shadow wreathed claws slicing apart its ankle helped it figure out where he had gone. But by the time the abomination could react, nevermind try to counter attack, the giant paw had disappeared back into the shadows.
Dozens of eyes sprouted across its body, joining the ten that were already there, as it covered the bottom of its body with eyes that scanned the ground independently.
Every time the shadows shifted, the abomination lunged. Sometimes its attacks fell short, but other times they found purchase in the soft flesh of the Shadow Demon as its claws tore Beans apart and forced him back into the shadows.
It was by this point that the rest of the party, who had been stunned into silence and paralysed by fear at the appearance of a second monster, figured out exactly who that monster was. Between the general appearance and the movements, they were smart enough to figure out that this was Valerie’s cat based on what they knew.
They might not have known it could do that, or how it managed to transform like that, but they knew that it was fighting on their side and keeping the abomination on its toes. Which was more than enough.
As Beans continued his shadowy assault the rest of the party joined in, throwing bolts of fire and magic bullets, as much as they could. But with more eyes manifested, and with it being as vigilant as ever. The abomination was weaving its impossibly flexible body around their attacks with uncanny levels of perception.
No matter the angle you attacked it from, it was able to see your attack coming. Even worse, it was starting to learn.
It twisted its body awkwardly, stretching itself in places so that it just avoided a vine that was stabbing towards it. The vine shot passed the creature and stabbed deep into the ground beneath it, right in front of Lucy and interrupting her charge.
Bending its leg, although not at the joint but instead at the parts that should usually be solid, let a magic bullet fly past its intended target and instead strike Beans as he emerged from the shadows.
Elise quickly apologised for that, remembering her mishap with Belladonna in the dungeon, before she quickly adjusted her aim so that she was always shooting high. But even if Elise was embarrassed about her mistake, she was not the only one struggling with it.
The conniving abomination was studying how they were fighting it, watching from every possible angle and turning as many attacks as possible against its attackers.
It was perhaps only because of their time in the dungeon that the party were able to adapt, subconsciously reading each other’s attacks and planning their own movements around any crossovers. A feat that was only possible because of their, albeit limited, experience fighting together as a unit.
However that couldn’t stop them fully avoiding the cross fire, especially when the creature started to intentionally direct attacks at them to make sure they landed.
A few of its eyes narrowed as they locked onto a pool of shadows on a wall far from the abomination, that was swirling as they grew darker. A spiked tail emerged from the shadows, just enough for the deadly weapons to touch the air, before a barrage of bone spikes were fired.
They shot high, so that when the creature inevitably weaved around them, it wouldn’t hit anything else. And while it did indeed weave, it also stretched out an arm.
It snatched one of the spikes from the air, carried its momentum as the abomination twisted its elastic body around. The dozens of eyes across its entire body worked in tandem as it always kept its target in sight, before it finally let the spike go.
The spear of bone catapulted through the air, slicing through the air as it moved faster than ever, as it travelled straight towards the one the abomination hated most. The healer that reeked of the putrid scent of Divinity.
