Chapter 322: Medic!
Valerie’s body lifted off of the ground, supported entirely by the claws skewered through her stomach as she let out a few whimpers of pain, before a torrent of blood poured from her mouth and splattered onto the ground.
A ground that was shifting, as something was hidden completely flat against the uneven terrain. It was only in that difference of flat and uneven, with the assistance of Valerie’s crimson painting, that one could see the arm that had disguised itself as the ground and snuck all the way over to her.
Valerie frowned in confusion as she was lifted higher, her body sliding down onto the claws a little more, sending a new wave of pain coursing through her body. Her eyes trailed up the broken body of the creature, which was visible as the golden fist dissolved as Valerie lost her concentration on the spell.
Its body was a mangled mess of broken bones and puddles of acid blood that sizzled against the ground. Even flattening itself against the ground hadn’t saved it, as the ground constantly shattered from the Hand of God.
However amongst those broken and mangled bones, there was an arm that stopped at the elbow. Although that stump was already starting to sprout wriggling flesh and regrow a new arm.
Beside that laid a clawed hand, still attached to its body, which had talons sizzling from where the blood coated them when it tore through its own flesh.
The very hand that it had raised in, what she thought was, defence but in reality was an attempt to use the Hand of Gods force to cut off its own arm. An arm that had slithered underneath Valerie, and was currently starting to grow a new body at the end of it.
Valerie’s hands clamped around the arm holding her aloft, and with a pained scream through gritted teeth, the creature’s arm burst into flames. Her scream forced itself out of her mouth, turning agonising as the flames consumed the entire arm, including the claws that were deep in her guts as she was cooked from the inside out.
The arm eventually dropped, the control lost from it, as Valerie’s body slammed into the ground again as another lungful of blood was forced from her lips.
The undead warriors immediately leapt forwards, stabbing their spears into the creature over and over, as it was assaulted with a constant barrage of lightning bolts from the Thunder Fang. Even the Undead dragon swooped down, spewing a putrid black breath over the creature that caused its flesh to blacken and rot with necrosis before its healing took over and repaired the damage.
Bolts of wailing energy were blasted into the creature from the dragons rider, whilst a Demoness pulled herself from the wall and immediately launched herself back into the fray.
Flowers sprouted from the ground, spraying poison or shooting barbs, whilst a dozen illusionary versions of Elise were dotted around the place. Each of them blasted the abomination with rapid fired mana bullets that tore holes into it before they were quickly closed over.
Everyone was working to keep the abomination pinned down and occupied. The only thing that was missing was the pale glow on the undead’s weapons, as their healer had been pulled away from his chanting prayers.
Valerie whimpered as she tried to pull out the charred claws from her stomach. But a muscled hand quickly clamped over hers, stopping her movements as Jason quickly knelt down beside her.
"Don’t. Don’t take it out, not yet." He muttered, looking over her with clear panic and desperation plastered across his face. He turned her onto her side, grabbed the ends of the claws and snapped them off at the fingertips.
Each snap sent a jolt of pain through Valerie, as she could feel the smallest vibration through the claws, but Jason was right.
They had a slight hook to them. If she had pulled them out the way they were, she would have torn herself up inside even more. Instead, once they were snapped off, he lifted her off of the ground and quickly carried her away from the danger zone of battle.
As she was dragged, Valerie could feel another source of panic and worry inside of her, as a soft meowing echoed in her mind. Something was tugging at her mana, trying to use it, but not being able to take it without her permission.
Beans... It had to be. He wanted to transform, but he couldn’t. This world already weakened him, he needed her mana to transform as he couldn’t do it on his own.
In her moments of lucidity between the waves of delirium, Valerie sent her mana through their bond and poured it into Beans. Although she couldn’t see him change, she could hear the defiant roar as the Awakened Shadow Demon demanded vengeance.
Valerie grunted and cried in pain as she was placed down against a wall, in a small corner created by the way the stone had been cut in the harvesting days, positioning her body out of sight of the abomination.
"Sorry, I’m sorry. I know it hurts, but this part is going to hurt even more." Jason said with a voice that was trying to sound consoling and comforting, but could not rid itself of the fear laying underneath.
Valerie didn’t have a chance to ask what he meant, before a sharp jolt of pain tore through her body, as Jason pulled one of the claws all the way through her stomach.
He immediately slipped his hands underneath her shirt and vest, a warm glow already spreading across his palms as he pressed them tight against her wounds. Sweat trickled down his forehead as he poured his mana into her hands and forced it into her body, stitching it back together the best he could.
By the time he was finished with the first wound, Jason was heaving in exhaustion as his face was coated with sweat.
Valerie could see it on his face, how much mana just the one wound had cost him. They both knew that he didn’t have it in him to heal all three, and even if he somehow managed it, he would have nothing for the next person who got wounded, or the one after that.
"It’s... okay... Leave me. You can focus on the-" Valerie began to weakly mutter, before she was suddenly cut off by the pain of the next talon being ripped out of her, then the third immediately after.
Jason clamped his hands over the wounds and poured even more mana into her, forcing the wounds to close up. But this time, he didn’t try to treat it fully. Instead he simply closed the external wound, so that she didn’t bleed out, before he picked up one of the talons.
He quickly wiped it with his shirt, as well as his hand, before pressing the talon against his palm. With one quick and decisive moment, and without a single nanosecond of hesitation, Jason sliced open his hand and clamped it over Valerie’s mouth.
"Drink up stumpy. Take as much as you need, I can always make more."
