Chapter 296: The Secrets of Businessmen
Percy stepped out of the sleek, cutting edge private hover-shuttle and immediately stepped away so that he could take a deep breath and finally relax.
Behind him, his father stepped out of the same shuttle and shot him a withering, irate glare before dismissing the young man a second later, as if he didn’t exist at all. Percival Monarch the Second immediately strode over to the assistant who was waiting for him, leaving Percy to his nonsense.
It had only been a few hours that Percy had been in that shuttle with his father, but it was like being in hell itself. The shuttle ride alone probably accounted for 60% of his time spent with his father. That included things such as birthdays and holidays.
So putting all of that ’quality time’ into one singular span, and filling it with completely dead silence was naturally a hellish experience.
Walking to the edge of the landing pad, Percy took in the strange sight of the city he was now in. It was a smaller city, closer to the size of a rural town, that was called a city mostly because it was practically filled with nothing but high rises.
The other peculiar thing to note about this city, was that it was surrounded entirely by the ocean, because that was where it was floating.
Ocean cities, otherwise called Oceania’s, were mostly controlled by corporations and existed to cater to the rich and powerful, like many places in the world these days. International waters made great places for certain dealings, and it was better for business than buying shady islands.
The lower parts of the city close to the water, the Wave Riders, were filled with the poorer people that worked and operated the entire city, whilst the rest was designed for the important people.
Percy in particular was standing atop the highest building in the city, which could only mean that it belonged to the owner, but who that was he had no idea.
"If this is your business meeting, why am I here? I thought you were keeping me out of the family business and keeping all the world shattering secrets from me." Percy said, not even trying to hide the hostility in his voice as he glanced over his shoulder.
However his father didn’t care, simply holding up a finger as he continued to speak to his associate in hushed tones, that Percy couldn’t make out.
"You still haven’t found out anything from this girl?" Percival the Second pointedly asked, glaring at the well dressed woman next to him.
Bai Yin nodded her head, her firm gaze hidden behind a pair of dark glasses, as she answered emotionlessly.
"No sir. She has given no indication of anything beyond what she demonstrated at the compound. Not a hint of any other abilities, no information of any kind on her methods. If I hadn’t seen her at the compound, I would think that she is nothing but an ordinary girl."
Percival the Second frowned, humming in contemplation,
"And what of the game? Have you been able to find anything out about that? Your reports were lacking."
"The game is interesting, and clearly shows an understanding of many of our techniques, as well as many more that we do not have. But it gives no clues on how the girl knew of the techniques of the elder.
They are reliant on the meat of fake monsters, much the same that we use the potions."
Percival the Second glared at Bai Yin for a few moments, as if trying to peer into her secrets, before letting out an irritated sigh and nodding. When he spoke next, he did so in a loud voice as he finally lowered his finger and addressed his son,
"You are here," He turned, glaring at Percy like he was a stain on his favourite suit, "Because it is about time that you contributed to your family lineage. You have been playing your games, playing around with your little friends. Even bringing them to our sanctuary.
But nothing has been given in return, yet it has all been at my expense. It is time to fix that and make yourself useful for once. This meeting is how you will do so."
"Oh really? Who is this meeting even with anyways?" Percy asked, clenching his fists at the ’usefulness’ comments.
He wanted to spit back that he has lived off his ’little games’ and became successful off of them, but that was an argument that took up the remaining 40% of their interactions. It wasn’t worth it.
"This meeting is with Noel McGuinness. The man responsible for the company that created the game that has caused so many petulant children to infest my sanctuary.
So perhaps all that time wasted will be useful after all." Percival shot back, before turning on his heels and striding off of the landing platform and into the high rise, with Bai Yin trailing behind him like nothing had changed.
Percy was flabbergasted for a moment, glancing at the view of the city once again, before sighing himself and rubbing the back of his head.
This was going to be even more of a headache than he had expected. At the very least, he was glad to get out of the compound, even if it was going to be for something as horrible as this.
After Kaleigh, otherwise known as LusciousLox, had come into the compound alongside the rest of his guild, he had been desperate for any kind of escape. Although... for some reason that thought gave him pause.
He knew he had those feelings, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on why. He had been getting along well with Kaleigh as of late. Wait, as of late? Hadn’t he always felt that way? That didn’t make any...
Frowning deeply, Percy blinked a few times and shook his head, shaking the fog from his mind. Where was he again? Oh right, this meeting was going to be horrible, and an absolute headache. But he might as well get it over and done with, so that he could get back to the compound and to training with his guild.
A Prince had responsibilities after all.
As Percy stepped off of the landing platform, following his father into the penthouse, the floor beneath their shuttle slowly opened. The aircraft lowered down into a hidden garage, before the platform closed up, ready for the next visitor.
This was going to be a very important meeting with plenty of guests.
